    • Required some tweaking with the regulator for proper functionality
I bought this butane insert over 4 years ago and it never really worked that well. I tried the suggestions to remove the limiter, etc... and then the thought occurred me to recently to adjust it without the limiter. This worked. I was able to find the minimum point where it would stay barely ignited. Then turned it until it was using fuel too fast. Then backed it down to find a good sweet spot. Then I re-inserted the limiter based on this. Now it easily ignites and stays on, and repeat ignitions are 100% reliable. I no longer have to worry about the Zippo fuel drying with the old wick setup. I can also buy Zippo butane fuel relatively cheaply at my local store. If yours doesn't ignite properly, stay lit, or uses fuel too quickly - I suggest playing with the adjustments with or without the limiter to get it to work. ... show more

It’s lasted me about a year still and keeps running well. I even accidentally washed it in my clothes and it still works. Very reliable, lasts long, great flame size, and fits in any zippo. I would recommend

This is intended to replace the wadded cotton and flint innards in a Zippo lighter. It doesn't dry out after a week and has a nice torchy type flame that makes it easy to start fires. Has a card with it that warns against using it for more than a specified number of seconds, the head has a lot of plastic in it. So NOT a torch. I've been using it as intended, starting up a spirit burner for cooking. Works great for that. It's not windproof, if there's a heavy breeze, it'll have to have a windscreen to start anything up. Uses standard butane refill cans. This one has twin burners rather than single ones, adds a little to the fire-starting capability. The filler is on the bottom, has a separate flame length adjustment alongside. You may have to use this depending on your altitude. Higher altitudes seem to need more tweaking. The original Zippo outside case would keep lint and such from clogging things up, should be great for pocket use and no naptha burns from lighter fluid on your legs. It DOES work by itself, you don't need to gut an old Zippo to use it. ... show more

Zippo Butane Lighter insert is good quality, easy to fill, and works good. It was purchased to carry in my get home bag. The dual flame lighter uses a lot of fuel. I will keep a 3.9 fl oz Zippo Butane fuel can in my get home bag with it. The lighter does not consistently ignite on a lower fuel valve setting to reduce the flame for fuel conservation. So I have to set the fuel valve at a setting high enough above the minimum until consistent ignition is achieved. After refilling lighter, it would not ignite at the minimum setting I had set it to. Fuel valve had to be adjusted to the maximum setting to get ignition and then lowered to where I had set it to use less fuel. Somebody on here suggested getting a butane lighter air bleed tool to purge it. That is next on my list to purchase. ... show more

Several months have lapsed since I received my new insert. This is to advise that although the device is not US made, its general performance clearly meets ZIPPO's standards of quality and reliability. I have changed my rating form 4 stars to 5 stars. Recommended based on personal experience. Below is my previous 3-star review. I consulted with the factory, and they sent me an instruction sheet and some ways to try to bring the insert to life. None worked so they said to return it. I promptly received another, shipping prepaid WITH a return label for prepaid shipment. The new insert works well and at this price does a good job lighting cigars. The flame may require adjustment as the tank depletes its fuel, but overall, I'm satisfied and continue to enjoy using my old Zippo case. It may take a little more patience than some cigar lighters, but I'm pleased to have and use it regularly. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is that it's not US made. I know tooling and starting a line in a factory is costly, but an expert metal stamper and bender like ZIPPO should be making these in the US. * * * * * * HERE IS MY LD REVIEW. PLEASE DISREGARD IT - I've been a ZIPPO user for 5+ decades. ALWAYS top-quality products and reliable. I thought this insert would be up to that expected standard but it's fallen short. There was no instruction sheet, the flame adjustment is VERY difficult to "set and forget" - needs constant adjustment to keep working, has a smaller capacity than expected from what looks like a pretty large fuel tank.
