  • A Tough Confession: My Lighter is a Fuel Snob
My life began in a display case, all polished chrome and potential. For a while, things were good. But my owner fed me a diet of cheap, generic fuel from the gas station counter. I tried not to complain, but that stuff was like muddy water for a race car. I’d sputter and cough, my flame a sickly, flickering yellow. My jet, the very heart of me, started to feel clogged and weak. I thought my best days were over, that I was destined for a dusty drawer. Then, this little black can arrived. It said "Zippo" on it-a name I recognized as family. My owner purged my tank of the old, gritty fuel, and then came the hiss of the new stuff. It felt different. Cleaner. When he sparked my flint, it wasn't a cough; it was a roar. A clean, sharp, and perfectly blue jet of flame erupted from me, steady and confident. There was no soot, no smell, just pure, consistent energy. I felt like I could breathe again. Now, I've overheard my owner talking. He loves how well I work, but he wishes the can was bigger. He says it runs out too fast for what he pays, and that's the only thing that gives him pause. From my perspective, a short life running at peak performance is better than a long one sputtering on junk fuel. He's paying for quality, not quantity, and it has kept me out of that junk drawer. So, this is my confession: I’m picky. I need the good stuff to be my best self. This little black can is the good stuff. It might cost my owner a bit more, and he might have to buy it more often, but it’s the fuel that makes me feel like a true Zippo again. For that, it’s worth every penny he spends. ... show more

  • No drama fill
filled my lighter quickly and didn’t leak — which is really all you can ask of butane. Nozzle fit cleanly, no hissing or spray, no mess. Stored it without issue and used it again later with the same result. Pros: • Fills quickly • No leaks or mess • Universal nozzle fit • Trusted brand Cons: • Standard butane safety stuff applies — store away from heat • Smaller can, so heavy users will go through it faster Tips: • Bleed the lighter tank before refilling for the cleanest fill • Hold the can upside down, press firmly, count to 5 • Let the lighter rest a minute before sparking — gives the fuel time to settle ... show more

  • The Fill Adapter Tips ALWAYS LEAK (Like All of Them Do)
This old design has never been improved since it was first made and it is way past due for a tech refresh/redesign. Improvements need to be made to the filling adapters (in design and manufacture) to eliminate the tendency to leak when filling, wasting fuel when recharging devices. This could easily be remedied by using a more flexible, self-sealing silicone rubber tip instead of hard plastic fill adapters. Otherwise, 15-20% of the fuel is wasted each time it is used because the existing technology is a sloppy design. Manufacturers accept that their products leak and since they are not compelled to do better by consumers, they don’t care and won’t do anything unless/until after someone is needlessly injured - or profits decline after consumers abandon shoddy products. Like the chemical/fossil fuel and the transportation industries are known for only remediating dangerous products AFTER being compelled by government/legal action. Design & safety criteria and manufacturing quality will never improve until the industry is shamed into improving the design. These are the same principles employed throughout industry because our government fails to protect consumers’ safety and won’t compel industry to improve until AFTER consumers are injured or there is loss of life. The transportation industry (including the airlines, car and airliner manufacturers) analyze the relative cost to compensate victims of aircraft and car crashes against the cost of reducing specific KNOWN risk factors, which leaves the unknown risks that represent a significant proportion of overall risk factors. In most cases, this is a logical and effective process; however, being subject to human error, there is always a likelihood of a person of responsibility making the wrong decision, and having a disproportional effect on society. Utilizing a decision-support methodology that is inclusive of multiple team members composed of stakeholders increases the likelihood of project success - immeasurably enough to qualify this as unquestionable. CONSUMER SAFETY NEEDS TO BE PROMOTED AND ENFORCED AS THOUGH LIVES DEPEND ON IT. ... show more
