Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a mattress that offers a good balance between comfort and support, the Zinus Green Tea Mattress is a superb option. It's loved for its long-lasting nature and body-contouring capability. However, if you often sleep hot or experience hip pain as a side sleeper, you may want to consider alternatives. But overall, considering the positive reviews, it's a great choice for the price.

  • Great mattress. Comfortable for 2 fat people and 3 dogs.
EDIT: 3 month update.....I'm still leaving it at 5 stars. We have now had this mattress for just over 3 months and still love it. I am falling asleep faster, staying asleep and waking up feeling more rested. I have slept on both sides and even in the middle of the mattress and have equal comfort anywhere. I normally have 3 dogs hogging the bed and what's really nice is I barely notice if they get up and move to a new spot, even if it's right next to me. I no longer feel like my husband is doing backflips if he turns over in the middle of the night either. Even the one night the mattress pad didn't make it into the dryer in time for bed I did notice the difference the mattress pad makes in not making this mattress feel as firm, but it was still quite comfortable, just not as comfortable. I have no complaints. There were no smells with ours to start with so that never was a problem and it's still at a full 12" evenly across. I'm in the camp of those who were really skeptical of buying a mattress online. Especially a foam one since I've had a regular pillow top one for the past 10 years. Yes it was time for a new mattress! I had been shopping around for a new mattress for a few months trying out different ones, getting pricing and trying to make a decision which is kind of a big deal when you're more than likely looking at spending a lot of money. A friend suggested we consider the foam mattresses and that Amazon had some good prices on them. I headed to a local store to give their version of these mattresses a try and I was surprised how comfortable they were. After testing them out I decided to see what Amazon reviews had to say about the ones they offered. I read through the good and the not so good and the flat out bad reviews and decided to take a chance and see what arrived. I am super happy I did! Granted it's only been 2 weeks but so far we love this mattress! I had read the multiple reviews saying theirs didn't inflate correctly, had a foul odor, was lumpy, etc....thankfully none of that was true of what we received. To break it down..... cons... It is a firm mattress no doubt. I am someone who likes to pretty much sleep in a cloud and am a side sleeper so it's taken some getting used to. Since the cost of this mattress was so good I went ahead and ordered a high quality mattress cover/pad and for me it's really helped make adjusting going from a plush pillow top to a firm bed a lot easier. Going from a spring mattress to a foam ones takes some adjustment on the support on the sides. Obviously the spring ones tend to have more of a frame around the edges so sitting on the side of the bed is different. I wouldn't say it's bad but it's not as supportive. We will probably need to get a new bed frame here sometime soon. While the box springs we had from our old king are still in great shape the lighter weight mattress tends to slide and needs to be shoved back into place every night before going to bed. Not really any fault of the mattress it's just a con that I'll need to replace the bed itself in order to stop this from happening. Another con that's not the fault of the mattress it's just my bad luck....I missed where this was on sale just after Thanksgiving because I was still pondering what kind of mattress to get. So I paid the higher, yet still on sale, price. 4 days later it went back on sale again and has remained $40 cheaper for over a week now. Bummer for me, but still a good deal, just not as good of a deal as if I'd waited 4 more days to decide. On to the good stuff Pros..... Per my experience I say buy this mattress. Don't wait, grab it at the price it is now. I did not notice any sort of foul odor but I did open the windows and had the ceiling fan going while it inflated. It inflated to the full 12" and did so within an hour. We were sleeping on the mattress withing 4 hours of setting it up. It fit where our old king size was perfectly with no overhang or shortages size wise. It's around 2" taller than our old mattress so that took a little getting used to but it measured 12" with a regular school ruler. It was well packaged and fully deflated ready to go when it arrived. I'm a big girl and my husband is a fairly big guy and we both sleep comfortably on this mattress with our 3 large breed bed hogging dogs. When my husband moves at night he does so like a fish out of water and I have noticed he doesn't wake me up turning over because it's not bouncing me around like our old mattress did. I don't even really notice a dog moving around to a different spot. I'm a side sleeper who would love to sleep in a cloud so this did take some getting used to but it's never been uncomfortable. The first night getting to sleep and finding a comfortable position took a little bit but I could instantly feel I was better supported and my hip and shoulder didn't have the pressure it normally would. When I turned onto my back I felt almost like I was sleeping in a hammock. Not totally of course but the extra support was there where it hadn't been before. With what I saved on the mattress I went ahead and bought a nice mattress pad/cover to put on top to make it a little more soft. I had always been told you can make a firm mattress more soft but you can't make a soft mattress more firm so if it's too firm invest in a good pad and it can make a lot of difference if you prefer a softer bed. What I noticed right away is when I woke up I wasn't as sore. I feel a lot more rested in the morning and I'm not waking up to turn over or move around near as much as I was. Granted our old mattress was 10 years old and that had a lot to do with it, but still this mattress is obviously better and keeps me in a deep sleep for longer periods throughout the night. My husband also says he's sleeping better and isn't flopping around like he had been doing with the old mattress. He's the one of us always complaining about being hot while sleeping and he said he hasn't noticed this mattress makes that any worse, and if anything since he's not moving around so much it's better. We like it so much we plan to order the 8" version for our kid's bunk bed here soon. As we get more use of out this I will try to update this review for how it's holding up. I don't expect to get 10 years out of it, granted i probably shouldn't have tried to get 10 years out of the older one but it held up for at least 8-9 of those years. For this price I'd be happy if it lasts a couple of years. If it lasts longer even better. I highly suggest if this is too firm for you to buy a nice mattress pad and to buy it while it's at the price it is now. ... show more

  • 5 Year Review!
My husband and I and three chihuahuas have enjoyed this mattress for 5 years! We love the "just right firmness" of it and the "keeps its shape" feature. There is no visible sagging. I bought my mom the same exact mattress last year and she raves about how well she sleeps at night. For the price, comfort, and longevity; I highly recommend this mattress. ... show more

  • Amazing Quality for the Price - Why Pay More??
Let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of memory foam mattresses, and that these are all I have owned for a very long time. I eyed the Tempur pedic for a long time before hunting down a locally made layered memory and latex foam knockoff while living near San Francisco that I absolutely adored, but which was replaced by my ex-husband by a real tempurpedic a year later. (Which I loved, but was honestly not any better than the knockoff which I paid a third of the price for. When I ultimately moved back home to NY, I purchased a crappy 6 inch K-Mart memory foam mattress for $89 which was meant to be temporary, but ended up being used for 8 years. My husband begged me to replace it because it was so thin and cheap, so I made it my mission to find something inexpensive that was thicker and better quality than my cheapo Kmart flop of a mattress. I did about a month of research between Amazon, Wayfair, Overstock and local stores before I settled on this mattress. Between the reviews of this particular mattress and a lack of anything under $1500 locally, I decided that $357 was worth a shot if it didn't pan out, and I thought it was a safe gamble based on the content of both positive and negative reviews. This mattress is awesome. It IS heavy, and I am a 5'4 out of shape housewife (lol) but I was determined to set the damn thing up before my husband got home, and I did. I am all on one floor, but it was hard to get into the house as it was delivered to the front of my steps and left there by the FedEx guy (didn't even knock!). I ended up opening the top of the box and was able to drag the mattress onto the porch and into the house. I simply put the rolled up mattress on my platform bed, ripped the drawstring sack open, and it unrolled itself. Since it is king, it was also folded in half so I did have to flip it, but I managed. It puffed up to about 10 inches on one side and 8 on the other by 4pm. By bedtime, it was evenly fluffed up to its full 12 on all sides. This mattress is incredibly comfortable. It is pretty firm, but you melt right into the foam so it is also soft. Unless you have slept on a good quality memory foam mattress before, you won't understand how thats possible, but it is. I didn't realize just how crappy my Kmart mattess was until I started sleeping on this. My husband is pleased I am pleased and the kids, when they wander into bed at 5am are pleased (though we did have to get a stepstool because its twice as high) Our mattress had no odor - either we got lucky or we are just used to the smell of a foam mattress? Not sure, just that there was no chemical smell in our opinion. EDIT 2/1/2017 - I just bought a second Zinus Mattress, this time in a twin for my oldest daughter. Both of my daughters LOVE our foam mattress, and hers was a hand me down from her big brother. She's turning 5 this week so we upgraded her mattress to this and she is thrilled. It is of the same amazing quality as our king version and sprung right up to its full 6 inches by the end of the evening. I do think it is slightly softer than ours, which is probably good because she's so light. I will be buying a second twin next month for my younger daughter when she turns 3. (maybe it will keep that one from crawling into my bed? hah) ... show more

  • Do not buy. Mold, dipping, and bad customer service.
Update: Mold, serious caving in, and remarkably bad customer service has left me no choice but to downgrade this to a 1 star review. I have purchased several of these and almost every one of them has had a problem sooner or later. It looks like mold is an inevitability with this mattress. And that’s some nasty stuff to breath in 8 hours a day. I'm going to do everyone who reads this a massive favor. I'm going to tell you how I got the best bed ever, and it starts with this mattress. Let me start off saying that I have spent an unusual amount of time mattress shopping. I gave up on stores a while ago, and have been testing out the latex/foam options for a few years. The price, durability, and ease of shopping is hard to beat. I've tried all the major options; Purple, Tuft and Needle, Dreamforce, Tempurpedic, etc... The first Zinus mattress I got was all screwed up (images attached). But Amazon replaced it quickly. The most common complaint on this mattress is it's too firm, and I can see what they're saying. I'm a big (fat, over 300) guy, so I like firm. But most the people who have been in the bed are not so big. So, I decided to take advantage of the fact this was so cheap and went ahead and added two other items. First, DreamFoam Bedding DF20GT2066 2" Gel Swirl Memory Foam Topper, King, Aqua Blue This gel topper is great at keeping things cool, and has a good amount of give to it. Second, Cheer Collection Ultra Plush Eco-friendly Hypoallergenic Bamboo Fitted Mattress Topper - King this pillow top topper adds yes another level of cushion, and yet seems to let the cooling factor of the get topper come through a bit. Between these added items, I think I have created quite possible the best mattress I've ever experience, far better than Purple, Tuft and Needle, Tempurpedic, etc..., and all for well under $400! It's comfy, firm, and doesn't get too warm. I have a couple suggestions that I think really help. First, make sure this sets on a completely flat surface. If you get a platform frame with a mesh bottom, add a sheet of plywood under the mattress. I do feel this makes a bit of difference. Second, use a mattress cover on the Zinus. This thing should last forever if you don't damage it, so protect it. With the other two covers you'll never actually be touching the mattress. Just replace the toppers every couple years. A bonus suggestion, especially since this whole set up is so cheap, is to treat yourself to some bamboo sheets. HotelSheetsDirect 100% Bamboo Bed Sheet Set (King, Dark Gray) These feel amazing, and they're only $50. For pillows I'd recommend getting some traditional pillows, as well as some latex filled. The combo is a nice addition. I really stand by this suggestion, so I hope someone finds it helpful. Let me know. One year update: Matress and pads still fantastic. I rotate it once a month, just as a routine. Still perfect. ... show more

  • Amazon packaging had holes in it after poor handling but the item was intact and brand new ...
Cautiously giving this mattress an adequate 4 star review. I ordered a 12-inch King green tea foam mattress for $229. The item arrived in 4 days via UPS. Amazon packaging had holes in it after poor handling but the item was intact and brand new condition. Once unpacked and rolled out onto the frame, the mattress took a matter of hours to rise to its 12 inch height. Notably, one corner is flawed and the foam did not rise all the way in just that one corner (like 9 inches). I was excited enough to sleep on it first night and it worked like a charm. You know it's a good sleep when you don't even remember at what point you fell asleep. My bf has a better nose and the slight new mattress smell bothers him, so he won't be trying it for a couple nights till the smell is gone from the room. I like the moderate firmness of the bed- you don't sink in and sweat. In fact the bed doesn't retain much body heat at all, or I'm sleeping next to a drafty window in winter so I can't tell how it will fare in the summer. I'm happy with the great deal on this purchase. So what if one corner at the top isn't risen all the way- it gets covered by pillows. My last mattress was an $1800 Tempurpedic Cloud Supreme and, while I miss it, the life of that mattress disappointed me after only 4 years. Don't pay a fortune for foam and know how to treat it. I moved multiple times with the Tempurpedic and every time it was bent in half to be shoved into a vehicle, it lost life. So when you buy a foam, it lasts longer if you don't pack it back up after you put it on the bed. Now that I'm in a permanent home dwelling, I hope this mattress will give consistent results with no change in quality for a long time. I'll update this feedback over time if the mattress starts to disappoint me. But assume if I have not updated, this mattress is a worthy find for the price. I am a 5'9" woman 160-165lbs and I find it very comfortable on the hips and spine as a side sleeper. ... show more

  • 5 yrs later!!!!
*****5 yr update. Never would have thought to get 5 years out of this mattress. It has barely started to sag. I have the 12" am 6' and weigh 180. My wife is much smaller. The sag is insignificant at a whopping 1/2". It never went ro 12" and was only 11" which is one of the reasons I got the 12. I have a bad back though and is enough for me to notice. I will say the springiness of the foam isn't what it used to be it springs back where my body lays at half the speed and the integrity feels less firm. So there you have it. $80/yr unless you have a great back!! Bless all who finds this helpful. Second update: Still love this bed! 4 years later. UPDATE: So I've had this bed a few years now. Ir can get warm sometimes but im used to just kicking off my comforter and sleeping with a sheet if needed. The bed is holding up very well and is still very comfortable. I bought a cover for it and I'm so glad I did. Any liquids would just soak right in. It still has it's original shape. I wound up buying 2 more of these mattresses for my kids I loved them so much. I just dont see how you could beat them for the money. Im still pretty young at 37 so no back problems or anything yet so I cant speak to any of that. Still loving e it. OLD: I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised on this mattress. I had a Sealy PosturePedic for 10 years before this and paid about $1300. I kept seeing these adds for beds shipped in rolls and got some extra Amazon credit and decided it was time for a new one. I picked the 12" mattress to be on the safe side. I am a stomach sleeper and didn't want to bottom out on it. I only weigh about 180 and my wife at about 125 so we aren't heavy people. The sleep I get on this thing is amazing. It is firm, but it somehow just cradles your body. I'm also an edge sleeper and this thing has amazing support all the way over. I never feel like i'm going to roll out as I like to hang my elbow over when I'm face down. I have had no issues with heat thus far, but I am the type of person that can just sleep with a heavy flannel flat sheet over me instead of a full comforter. So I guess I adjust more than just sleeping with 10 lbs of blankets on me all the time. Nevertheless, I haven't once woke up sweaty or even started to sweat in this bed. I have yet to put a mattress protector on it and probably should. I cannot smell the infused tea, but I have a terrible sense of smell and only got it for my wife who says she can definitely smell it. It never rose fully which I anticipated and only expanded to about 11" max. One more reason I bought the 12" Oh, and I took it out of the box almost immediately for fear of it being misshapen so that wasn't it. TL;DR Pro's: 1) Price 2) 10 year warranty! (some only have a 1yr warranty) and a 30 day money back guarantee I think. 3) Comfy all the way to the edge 4) Smells nice and doesn't get to hot Con's: 1) 12" only rose to 11" which wasn't an issue for me That is it. Had the bed for a couple of months now. I will try and update next year but so far it has been amazing!! Shoot, at the price I paid for my last one, if I threw this one away every 3 years, I'd be saving money. ... show more

  • Great Mattress...
If my husband were reviewing this mattress, he'd pick 4 stars- " I like it" But I am the one reviewing today and I pick all 5 of them because it is well deserved. I got this mattress back in November. It had been sitting in my cart for a few months, and I would read the reviews daily. I was skeptical. It's hard buying a mattress online and trusting other peoples' reviews and opinions when it is something so important as the quality of your sleep and comfort. We had our mattress for about 8 years, and it was definitely time to buy a new one. I've been wanting a memory foam mattress, my husband wasn't so sure. He isn't keen on the feel of them, he prefers softer mattresses. Well on November 22nd, I was 36 weeks pregnant with twins and in the middle of the night, my water broke all in our bed. THIS was my sign to order this mattress I've had saved in the shopping cart. Needless to say that day after I delivered the twins into the deserving parents' I was carrying them for (I was a gestational surrogate) I clicked BUY on this mattress. We have a king sized bed, so we paid a bit more for the larger size. Like the other reviews say, it is so werid how the mattress comes rolled up so small (yet so heavy!). It was wrapped in a huge plastic bag and taped so it didn't open up. Our bag had a tear in it which did affect the mattress. It had a large black streak on it that left an ugly look to it. As usual, Amazon took care of the issue. They offered us to send the mattress back, or issue a discount for the damage. We already had the mattress open, so there was no way of sending it back. I love how Amazon truly cares about their customers. We cut the bag open in our family room and let the mattress puff up, following the directions. Yes, it does have a chemical smell to it. It isn't nasty smelling, but definitely noticeable. It went away within a week. We let the mattress puff up for 24 hours (at least). It did puff up to the full 12 inches as promised in the description of the item. Even for us, the corners puffed up to the full extent. No problems there. We threw the old amniotic fluid filled mattress away, and put the new one on. My first reaction laying on it was "uh oh this thing is firm".... because it is! We went from a squishy spring loaded mattress, to this multi-layered memory foam mattress. You can't jump on this one, there's no bounce. BUT come to realize that first night I slept on it was the BEST nights sleep I've gotten in a long time. It was so extremely comfortable for me. I enjoy how firm it is, and I enjoy how it takes the shape of your body. I also had a back surgery over 10 years ago where they placed rods in my back and fused it. My spine doesn't move like a normal spine does. This mattress is perfect for anyone who has the same spinal situation as I do. In our old squishy mattress, laying on my side was the worst. My spine demands to stay straight, but the mattress wanted me to sink. This memory foam mattress takes the shape of my body that it is given... therefore super comfortable and I sleep with my spine and hips aligned. I am being completely honest writing this review. I love this mattress. You can sit on the edge of the bed just like any other mattress, and it is sturdy. There is no joke here. No lying. No gimmicks. I spent my hard earned money purchasing this product and highly recommend it. The only reason my husband will give it a 4/5 stars is because he wasn't sure at first due to it being more firm vs. our old mattress. Now it has definitely grown on him, and we are both getting a great nights sleep. I will update anything further as time goes on, but as for now I am one happy customer. ... show more

  • Great Mattress!
My husband and I purchased the 12" king-sized version of this mattress in March 2017. I purposely waited almost a year to review this mattress because I believe most things are good in the beginning, but only time can tell how good a product really is. While it has only been a year, I feel I can give an honest review of this product. Before buying this mattress, we had card in hand ready to spend $1200 on another memory foam mattress from a furniture store, but couldn't go through with it. I had looked up this mattress a few days before going to the furniture store, which is what ultimately caused us to not buy the $1200 mattress. After almost a year, I can say I still love this mattress. After a long day, when I lay down in it, I can feel my whole body just relax into it, all while being supported. Our old pillowtop mattress was 10 years old and was causing both my husband and I lots of pain by the morning and since getting this mattress, we no longer have pain. I noticed in the reviews, that some people mentioned the mattress was too warm. We initally put a encased mattress cover on it when we first got it and yes, I woke up sweating. I suspected it could be the cover and took it off and haven't had a night sweat since - even in the summer. I don't think it gets too warm at all. Besides comfort, there is the price. You can't beat it. I would even say it is a steal. We shopped for 5 hours at 5 different furniture and mattress stores before deciding on this one. The average price of the king mattresses we looked at ranged from $800 - $1500. For less than $400, you get a quality mattress. Even if it doesn't last 5 years, you got your money's worth and at a fraction of the cost of the store mattresses. We enjoyed our bed so much, that when our son was in need of a new mattress, we bought him the full size version in July 2017. We are very happy with that purchase as well. They are great mattresses and I have no complaints. I highly recommend them! ... show more
