==================UPDATE========================= I've purchased this frame just under a year ago. Over the last few months, the frame has developed serious structural problems and I wanted to let others know, as my original review has been liked by so many of you. I don't have time to go into great detail at the moment, other than to say I believe the king model when used with a heavy foam mattress is more likely to develop issues than a smaller frame. I will post more detail along with photos as time permits. I haven't formally engaged the manufacturer for a resolution yet, but I will be. It's my sincere hope that what I am experiencing is just a one-off issue due to a defect in the wood, and that others who purchased this frame based on my original review don't run into the same problems I am experiencing. Thanks for reading. ==========End Of Update / Original Review Below===================== Here's a great example of a product that is actually over-engineered (in a good way). Everything, from the instructions to the manner in which the pieces are fastened show a high degree of attention to detail. The parts are marked clearly. The fasteners, caps, washers, etc. all come in a well-organized bubble pack with labels for each item on the cardboard backing. They even provide extras of each kind of item in a separate area marked as 'extra parts'. As far as the assembly, I did it myself and took my time. I think it took about 90 minutes from start to finish, inclusive of unpacking the box and taking an inventory. The trickiest part is that it's not immediately clear to that the numbers in the instructions usually refer to the joints, not parts. Once you figure that out, it's a breeze. With regard to the fit and finish, there aren't any compromises as far as I can tell. The entire unit, save for a single center support beam is made of high-quality wood, and the finish (in my case walnut) is beautiful. It should be noted that the wood is NOT hardwood (walnut, cherry, whatever), nor do they advertise it as such. It's probably pine that's been stained to a particular color. Had they used actual hardwood, you'd be looking at 2-3 times the cost. Regardless, the result is quite pleasing to the eye as well as the touch. Once assembled, it's very solid. A very cool feature of this bed is that the slats are supplied in to sets. Each set consists of 7 slats, pre-attached to one another with plastic/velcro straps on each end. Because of this, you don't have to worry about measuring the distance between the slats and placing them evenly. On top of that, the straps are velcro that lay down on top of the rails, with affords not only precise alignment, but eliminates any tendency to shift or fall out of place over time. I hate the bed. Everything started to fall apart less than a week after I put it together following the instructions that came with it. The whole bed felt flimsy from the beginning. In the first two weeks of use I had to tighen the screws of the center metal frame every other day. Then they would not stay in place. Next the side support started to become loose and I had to tighten them from time to time. The legs would not stay straight and the bed and each time I was going to bed I felt that the bed was going to fall apart. The bad news is that I cannot return it. Buyer beware! ... show more

This Zinus King-size bed is handsome, inexpensive, easy to assemble, and has a headboard. However this frame is not heavy-duty enough for a high-quality king size mattress and 2 people sleeping on it. After less than a year, the center legs started sagging and bending, and scratching up the floor severely. They are flimsy metal tubes while the rest of the bed is solid wood. My husband is a carpenter and was able to work with the bed a couple times to adjust it. Eventually it almost collapsed entirely, but my husband put together a fix that we are hoping will work well: it is to re-make the center beam that runs the length of the bed and to add 3 4x4 wood legs down center attached to a new wood 2x4 center beam. This replaced the skinny metal tubing legs that were there before. I have included a pic. The pic of the metal leg is just to give the general idea. When asked if he would rather buy this bed again, knowing he'd have to work with it, or spend over $1500 on a bed that has no issues, he said he would consider buying it again and make the fix right away “Now that I know how easy it is to fix”. ... show more

My husband used to make furniture and usually refuses to buy anything that isn't vintage..."They just don't make anything like they used to." Well, we took a chance on this Zinus bed, hoping it would match our bedroom furniture and that it would be a quality piece. We could not be happier. From the moment we opened the box it was nothing less than very impressive (I'm getting nothing return for this review). It was well packed and had extremely easy instructions to follow. The entire time we assembled it we both commented on the quality of every piece and the ease of putting it together. We really hoped to find a match to our dressers and night stands which are a dark cherry finish. We could not be happier. So to anyone else like us who relies heavily on reviews, this bed is for you.
