Short version: My wife and I have had this mattress for over a year now and can say with confidence that it was an excellent purchase- it is still firm and has no sags or dips. I highly recommend it. I have held off on writing a review for this mattress because I felt it was necessary to sleep on it for an extended period of time to give it the most fair and accurate review. My wife and I purchased this mattress over a year ago, in November 2017. After going to all the local stores, from big box to mom and pop, my wife and I found ourselves with a problem: we could tell which mattresses were soft and which were firm, but aside from that we didn't really feel much difference apart from the price tag- almost all of which exceeded a thousand dollars, with some approaching two grand. That's quite an outlay of cash. So, going off reviews on Amazon we took the leap on this Zinus Extra Firm iCoil 12 inch king mattress. We also purchased a steel foundation upon which to set the mattress in our bed frame. The box arrived a little beat up, but my wife and I muscled it into the house and carried it upstairs together. It's a two person job, but not impossible. We set the rolled up mattress on our guest bed and carefully cut away the plastic so the bed would unroll. (Pro tip: Don't stand between the mattress and the wall. You might get pinched) We followed the directions and let the mattress sit undisturbed for 2 or 3 days so it could fully expand. After which time, we moved it into our bedroom. It's now more than one year on and I feel qualified to report on the mattress. It is firm, but not rock hard. This is obviously subjective, so all I can say is that you know a firm mattress when you lay on one, and this is a firm mattress but is still comfortable. I'm a side and stomach sleeper, and my wife is a back sleeper. I'm 5'11", 230lbs, and we'll just say that my wife is plus sized and leave it at that. The mattress supports both of us fine, and a year later has no depressions, dips, sags or problem areas. The last time I did laundry I snapped some photos of the mattress which I have posted above. You'll notice the mattress is still even and flat, even after a year of nightly use. I purchased this mattress myself, with my own money, have no relationship with the manufacturer, and am receiving nothing in return for writing this review. I just know how difficult it is take the leap of purchasing something like this over the internet, so I thought I'd write a review to help people in a similar situation my wife and I found ourselves in last year. This mattress was an excellent purchase, I've recommended it to friends, and if you're in the market for a fairly priced firm mattress, I can recommend it to you as well. Cheers.

I WAS RELUCTANT AT FIRST! I am going to write an unusual review. When we first took the mattress out of the bed and I lay down on it, my first thought was, "Oh NO! What have I done? This mattress is like laying on a padded brick." It took less then 24 hours for the memory foam to completely fluff up. So I gave it another day. And another. It was just SO FIRM! My old bed was like a soft billowy cloud that just wrapped around you. So I called Amazon to check on their return policy. They told me to wait a week and see how I felt, and then we could initiate the return process. I AM SO GLAD I WAITED! I now LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this bed!! Here's why: I SLEEP LIKE A BABY THAT SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT! I have never slept so good in my whole life! I didn't realize it until about 2 weeks went by. I realized, I'm not getting up at night to briefly check the alarm clock time, go to the bathroom etc. No. It is literally a SLEEP MAGNET! I lie down on it, and 5 minutes later, I'm out cold! No more tossing and turning to fall asleep. NO MORE INSOMNIA! I find I am sleeping about exactly 7 hours straight without waking up once. I don't even notice if my husband is beside me in the bed or not. If he moves, I am not aware at all. Even though I was sleeping great,for two weeks I just couldn't seem to part with our old mattress. I kept having doubts like, "but what if it is just a bit TOO firm? Will I regret tossing our old mattress?" (It was still in our hall. I know I sound like Goldilocks here, but to be absolutely certain we could trash our old mattress once and for all, I took this mattress off, put it in the hall where our old one was, and put the old one back on. The next two nights were the worse sleep nights of my life. Though my old bed is like falling into a fluffy hammock, I realize now that I have not slept hardly at all for years! No telling how many times I wake up at night! So I switched back again to the Zinus mattress. And I also went ahead and shelled out a little bit more money and added an extra layer of padding with a Sleep Innovations 4-Inch Dual Layer Mattress Topper - Gel Memory Foam and Plush Fiber also found on Amazon ($184.10). That made the bed absolutely PERFECT. Very firm support, but a soft topper. If you have bad back issues, or trouble sleeping this bed is for you! It may be a bit of an adjustment at first, but wait a few days, or add just one more layer of foam as we did. In fact at first, my back was just slightly sore, but that's because it was used to being curved like the letter "C" at night. Now every part of my spine is firmly supported, and zero pain anywhere. I am 51 yo, and wake up feeling refreshed. My bed is also on platform risers, and because the bed is perfectly FLAT, it doubles as a workspace (wrapped all our Christmas presents on it). It's easy to fold laundry, etc. because it is firm and perfect height. We both love this bed so much, I hope by next Christmas to replace our Queen size bed in the other bedroom. My 11 yo son loves it too, and now he wishes he could have one too. Conclusion: It may seem to firm at first, but give it a few days. Your body may be readjusting. Now I realize it's the best bed we ever bought! The price is totally reasonable and so convenient having it delivered to your door! PS -- This mattress also has individually wrapped coils, so you don't have to worry about springs going bad and that adds to it's firmness. I think next time, we may try the green tea 10" memory foam only (no springs) as it reviews as being firm, but probably slightly less than this one. Still, I am a converted believer now in this firm bed. Last thoughts: HOTEL OWNERS/MANAGERS should order these beds! With concern over bedbugs etc., stains etc., these beds are so reasonably priced, you could afford to replace mattresses several times a year if necessary. Didn't want to review this too soon so now some months have gone by and I am. I am 6'6" and weighed over 300lbs. I like firm beds. Not crazy sleeping on cement beds but ones that don't move around but have a little and I mean little cushion on top. I can't have these pillow top crap things that are SO SOFT. IT MUST BE FIRM>>>FIRM FIRM... I had a bet years ago and I don't remember who made it and I search and searched but I don't know who made it. Today, I was looking at BLACK by beautyrest but I can't see spending 3k for a mattress or more. Even then their firmest was not as firm as I like. What drew me to this bed was it said BIG AND TALL... which is me... and then extra firm. Extra firm, heavy duty... these are my kind of words. I thought I would try it. YES it is really heavy in the box and out, once it is out so be sure to have your frame set up with it ready to go. I am not sure how many months I have owned it now but I can tell you this. It wasn't long after I bought the first one that I bought a second one. That was my immediate pleasure with these. FIRM.... yes it is... a little indenting when laying on it... yes but it is FIRM. My OLD firm mattress I actually had to put a topper on it for it was so firm. This one doesn't need that. JUST RIGHT> I have no back pain and my Eastern King is big and perfect. Can I believe it was 400 dollars. NO WAY... Not at all. Since I have had it I have been paranoid about it grooving or slotting to where I always lay... so I have rotated the bed every few weeks. There is no indent and I would say at 320lbs. that can have a pretty possible outcome with that. Nothing. Fine. I do rotate it though. It is still firm. NO REGRETS. I just can't tell you for the price and even throwing away the price this is a great mattress. I would compare to beautyrest black... forget their silly fancy name... their firmest one. I have two of these kings. They are fun for my daughter to run and dive on. They are soft enough so your neck doesn't hurt but do not get me wrong. They are firm in a a great way. Go and sleep on the black BR beds on their firmest ones for 4k or more... then buy this one... with 4500 extra bucks in your pocket I am SURE you will be quite happy with these mattresses. I am and I MUST HAVE A FIRM BED. Must. No sitting on the edge and it sags.... or sinks in and didn't have a firm bed sleep... then my back is killing me. It is a good mattress regardless of the price. I will NEVER EVER pay high dollar for a firm mattress again. Now, the bad side of this... it is HEAVY. If you have to move it from room to room and you are small... good luck it will be a chore. If you are big like me... it will still be an effort. So my advice is to KNOW what room you want it in... unbox it and unwrap it there and be done with it with no plans on moving it again. Best suggestion... set it and forget it :-) I also bought the frame that came with it. Good combo but the real star is the bed.Will always buy these beds... 400 bucks... give me a break... and firm like a high end mattress... Totally happy. By far the firmest with perfect amount of comfort and for this price is silly. You will see that it is comfortable and firm. Firm, no spunge thing.

Ok. After reading many reviews we decided to get this one because it said extra firm and we are heavy people. We have had it about a month. My husband is 6'3" about 350 lbs. It is still Very firm. So firm in fact that we had to get a foam topper for it. It is quite comfortable now. I feel like it didn't inflate quite all the way but it didn't really matter. So far so good. It seems to be ok for the price. The only thing I don't like is that because it is extremely firm it doesn't relieve pressure on your lower back if you have problems with that and are a back sleeper. My husband love it and is a side sleeper.

Overview: Choosing a mattress or a pillow is a matter of personal preference and taste. In reality it is difficult to provide an un-biased review of these types of products. This particular mattress from Zinus has been made from quality materials, and when people review these products, they usually give negative feedback because the product does not match their taste or expectation. I have read reviews that says the mattress is too firm, well, if you read the product description it say it is extra firm. In fact the first night sleeping on this mattress gave me back pain in the morning because my body was not used to it, but I wanted an extra firm mattress. After two weeks, after purchasing the right pillow, we love this mattress. I no longer wake up with the back pain. After a year and/12 the mattress sinks and I am not a heavy person only weight about 160 pounds. Initially I thought it was a bargain, but now know why it is sooooo cheap. Over time it sinks and create a huge dent and makes it very uncomfortable to sleep in. Quality; Although we are not paying $$$ for this mattress, it is made of great materials.It is very firm, however, the mattress has 1.5 inch of embedded soft pillow-top that makes it feel plush, but yet firm. Most reviewers have stated in their reviews that this mattress is of great quality and very sturdy. I agree. The mattress does not get hot, and it is evenly firm all the way across, even along the edges. Conclusion: Choosing a mattress is matter of personal choice and taste. If you are in the market for a firm, cool, and good quality mattress, then you cant go wrong with Zinus extra firm. The mattress is great for those who wake up with back pain and want to have a firm mattress. We put a 1/4 inch cotton mattress sheet cover for extra comfort and we are very pleased with it. Sure you can purchase purchase a mattress of your desired quality, but you would have to spend thousands of dollars, but even then people have complained about the most expensive brands, so you can't make everyone happy. I was in the market for firm mattress and this one a great choice for us, and I do recommend it.

This is our 3rd zinus purchase (3 different items) and the quality and longevity of the product never disappoints. We are replacing a 3 1/2 yr old Zinus Queen mattress (which is now a guest room bed)with a new very needed increase in size to a king. Thank goodness for mattresses in a box, otherwise a king mattress coming up an older homes staircase could never become a reality. My husband and brother (70 year olds) were able to “muscle it up the stairs” in their words. Alot of pushing, sliding and pulling. These pictures are 12 hours out of the package. We started using it 48 hours after opening (since we still have our Queen Zinus to sleep on)We thought it was completely to full size, but noticed it still increased in size even with sleeping on it. So the statement in the instructions that says you can open and start sleeping on it first night is true. It will not stunt its growth;) There is Zero smell of anything when you open it. No toxic smell to worry about here. We have had a great sleep on the mattress and is the extra firm we love. You wont regret this purchase. Well worth the money at a fraction of the cost walking into a furniture store and buying one that will cost you a few thousand dollars.

I cannot thank you enough to Zinus. I have had a tough time for the past few years with my back. There was a point in my back where an epidural was given and around that spot it use to hurt so bad just after waking up from sleep. Also that specific pain point tortured the whole day. I was sleeping on extremely hard mattress and all we hear is hard mattress is best right??? And I thought I was doing all right what could be the issue until one day when we went on a trip, I slept really well in Hyatt and the next day my back did not hurt. The mattress in the motel was decent not very hard. I was shocked when I figured out that an extremely hard mattress can also cause such a big pain. So I went ahead on amazon, did a lot of research, visited stores around me, tried very expensive brands in stores, mom & pop shops. I was skeptical but finally bought this mattress when one of our close friends recommended this. Oh boy! Awesome was my first word.After using extremely soft & hard mattress I learned a few things: 1) Mattress should be neither v hard nor v soft like all memory foam. It should be just the perfect amount 2) Zinus had somehow figured out that formula 3) It is just soft on outer layers where you really need to relieve those pressure points 4) It is equally hard on the bottom layers which does not cause unnecessary pressure on bones 5) It is good for back or stomach sleeper as well 6) I am side sleeper and if you are one too, then this is best for you 7) My sleep quality improved as well after starting to use this mattress I will post the updates after a few months

First I want to commend Amazon because they have a selection of mattresses to be purchased online, and this was the first time ever that I tried (and failed) buying one online. Call me old school but I rather go to a store, lay down, check the quality of the built, and so on. I was impressed with the high reviews online, and decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. The mattress came vacuum sealed in a huge box, if you are in good share you can likely do it by yourself. I got a king size and was able to do it. Upon opening and waiting the 3 days noticed that the mattress sloped around the corners, like it isn't a perfect rectangle like all mattresses ai have owned before. I usually don't go for a pillow top, but judging by the pictures went with the king 12 inches with the pillow top. I can say if we didn't we would be sleeping on springs. Because I'd you touch any sides of the bed all you can feel are high tension springs, there is no padding at all - and thus my disappointment. If you are a side of the bed sleeper (like myself) or If you try to sit at the edge of the bed to put on you shoes or what not this will sink. I don't understand why they skimped out of adding foam/support around the "frame" of the mattress. If you are in the center you can't tell, but as soon as I roll the effect is immediate - and I am not a heavy person. The king 12 inches Is definitely firm. I had an Ikea Hagesund extra firm before and this is similar. But unlike my previous queen size mattress this isn't firm all around. This didn't work out for us, but If the shortcuts they take to make this spring filled mattress with a topper work are not an issue for you, then go for it.
