Short version: My wife and I have had this mattress for over a year now and can say with confidence that it was an excellent purchase- it is still firm and has no sags or dips. I highly recommend it. I have held off on writing a review for this mattress because I felt it was necessary to sleep on it for an extended period of time to give it the most fair and accurate review. My wife and I purchased this mattress over a year ago, in November 2017. After going to all the local stores, from big box to mom and pop, my wife and I found ourselves with a problem: we could tell which mattresses were soft and which were firm, but aside from that we didn't really feel much difference apart from the price tag- almost all of which exceeded a thousand dollars, with some approaching two grand. That's quite an outlay of cash. So, going off reviews on Amazon we took the leap on this Zinus Extra Firm iCoil 12 inch king mattress. We also purchased a steel foundation upon which to set the mattress in our bed frame. The box arrived a little beat up, but my wife and I muscled it into the house and carried it upstairs together. It's a two person job, but not impossible. We set the rolled up mattress on our guest bed and carefully cut away the plastic so the bed would unroll. (Pro tip: Don't stand between the mattress and the wall. You might get pinched) We followed the directions and let the mattress sit undisturbed for 2 or 3 days so it could fully expand. After which time, we moved it into our bedroom. It's now more than one year on and I feel qualified to report on the mattress. It is firm, but not rock hard. This is obviously subjective, so all I can say is that you know a firm mattress when you lay on one, and this is a firm mattress but is still comfortable. I'm a side and stomach sleeper, and my wife is a back sleeper. I'm 5'11", 230lbs, and we'll just say that my wife is plus sized and leave it at that. The mattress supports both of us fine, and a year later has no depressions, dips, sags or problem areas. The last time I did laundry I snapped some photos of the mattress which I have posted above. You'll notice the mattress is still even and flat, even after a year of nightly use. I purchased this mattress myself, with my own money, have no relationship with the manufacturer, and am receiving nothing in return for writing this review. I just know how difficult it is take the leap of purchasing something like this over the internet, so I thought I'd write a review to help people in a similar situation my wife and I found ourselves in last year. This mattress was an excellent purchase, I've recommended it to friends, and if you're in the market for a fairly priced firm mattress, I can recommend it to you as well. Cheers.

Didn't want to review this too soon so now some months have gone by and I am. I am 6'6" and weighed over 300lbs. I like firm beds. Not crazy sleeping on cement beds but ones that don't move around but have a little and I mean little cushion on top. I can't have these pillow top crap things that are SO SOFT. IT MUST BE FIRM>>>FIRM FIRM... I had a bet years ago and I don't remember who made it and I search and searched but I don't know who made it. Today, I was looking at BLACK by beautyrest but I can't see spending 3k for a mattress or more. Even then their firmest was not as firm as I like. What drew me to this bed was it said BIG AND TALL... which is me... and then extra firm. Extra firm, heavy duty... these are my kind of words. I thought I would try it. YES it is really heavy in the box and out, once it is out so be sure to have your frame set up with it ready to go. I am not sure how many months I have owned it now but I can tell you this. It wasn't long after I bought the first one that I bought a second one. That was my immediate pleasure with these. FIRM.... yes it is... a little indenting when laying on it... yes but it is FIRM. My OLD firm mattress I actually had to put a topper on it for it was so firm. This one doesn't need that. JUST RIGHT> I have no back pain and my Eastern King is big and perfect. Can I believe it was 400 dollars. NO WAY... Not at all. Since I have had it I have been paranoid about it grooving or slotting to where I always lay... so I have rotated the bed every few weeks. There is no indent and I would say at 320lbs. that can have a pretty possible outcome with that. Nothing. Fine. I do rotate it though. It is still firm. NO REGRETS. I just can't tell you for the price and even throwing away the price this is a great mattress. I would compare to beautyrest black... forget their silly fancy name... their firmest one. I have two of these kings. They are fun for my daughter to run and dive on. They are soft enough so your neck doesn't hurt but do not get me wrong. They are firm in a a great way. Go and sleep on the black BR beds on their firmest ones for 4k or more... then buy this one... with 4500 extra bucks in your pocket I am SURE you will be quite happy with these mattresses. I am and I MUST HAVE A FIRM BED. Must. No sitting on the edge and it sags.... or sinks in and didn't have a firm bed sleep... then my back is killing me. It is a good mattress regardless of the price. I will NEVER EVER pay high dollar for a firm mattress again. Now, the bad side of this... it is HEAVY. If you have to move it from room to room and you are small... good luck it will be a chore. If you are big like me... it will still be an effort. So my advice is to KNOW what room you want it in... unbox it and unwrap it there and be done with it with no plans on moving it again. Best suggestion... set it and forget it :-) I also bought the frame that came with it. Good combo but the real star is the bed.Will always buy these beds... 400 bucks... give me a break... and firm like a high end mattress... Totally happy. By far the firmest with perfect amount of comfort and for this price is silly. You will see that it is comfortable and firm. Firm, no spunge thing.

Eighteen months ago due to severe spinal stenosis I gave up my once awesome but currently sagging 20 year old beauty rest mattress in favor of sleeping directly on my board like box springs with a mattress topper. For a while it helped but at 68 years old I finally realized I needed at least a little bit of cushion or give. After reviewing pretty much every mattress on the planet for the last six months I decided on an inexpensive bed in a box type of mattress. I didn't want to spend a lot in case it didn't work out. I have had coil spring mattresses for over 60 years so I decided to stick with that familiar feel. However, I definitely needed the firmest mattress I could find… a step above the wooden board I had been sleeping on. Last Monday, July 28th I ordered the Zinus performance plus extra firm 10 inch queen mattress. I received it three days later on Thursday shipped from Amazon. It came in a long box about 90 pounds. I maneuvered it from the porch on its end all the way to my bedroom. Not too bad for a 68 year old woman with a bad back! I set it on the bed and unpacked it with no problem. I slowly cut the wrapper off as instructed and the mattress immediately started inflating and expanding. The smell was very mild and reminded me of dried hay. 10 hours later when I went to bed the smell was completely gone. Before I made up the bed I laid on the mattress for a few minutes to test the firmness. It is very firm but with that tiny bit of give that you get from a spring mattress. Since the 10 inch style has very little padding on top of the springs I decided to use my 3 inch Novafirm gel memory foam topper from Costco. If I was a little younger and not so sore I probably wouldn't need it. I also have a very nice bamboo made in the USA mattress pad that I'm using on top of that. Now the results. These last four nights I feel like I died and went to heaven! I have not slept this well in over two years. I feel like I am sleeping in a $2000 bed! I am not waking up six or seven times a night and it is sooo comfortable. Can't tell you how grateful I am to have found this bed and at such a good price. I was so apprehensive about this purchase and am so relieved and happy about the results! I know this was a very long review but I wanted all of you out there to have enough information in one review to help you make a decision. Also you already know my age but I am 5 foot four and 168 pounds if that helps. Also if you buy the bed directly from Amazon it comes a bit faster. Amazon prime got it to me in 3 days but I had to pay $20 tax. If you order it from Amazon and pick vendor Sleep Revolution( which is like the store front of Zinus) to order it from it takes about 7 to14 days and you don't pay tax. But I wanted it really fast. I just want to end this review with a huge thank you to Zinus for making a product that has so vastly improved the quality of my life!!................... Today is April 21, 2021 and it has been about 3 1/2 years since I bought this wonderful mattress. A lot of times you will see a review for a product and then never hear from that consumer again. But I love this bed so much I felt I should offer a follow up. First of all this mattress is in exactly the same shape as when it was new. I can detect no wear of any kind or any sagging. I am now 72 years old and still have my back issues but I have never slept so well in any other bed that I have owned. I still can’t believe that I paid less than $250 for a “bed in a box” coil spring mattress of this quality. I own the 10 inch mattress and as I stated I at first used a 3 inch memory foam topper but I ended up getting rid of it because foam is just too hot for me. Besides the top of this bed is soft enough even though the mattress is super firm and I use a bamboo USA made plush mattress pad cover which is perfect. This combination allows the mattress to breathe and the whole sleeping experience is cool and comfortable rather than hot and suffocating. I think the problem with foam is your body heat does not dissipate very well and I am a very hot sleeper. So in closing I will just say this. This mattress is worth every penny. If you are looking for a very firm bed that is really comfortable and sleeps cool look no further. I hope this follow up review is helpful.

I agree with most of the other 5-star reviews. This mattress is well made, extra firm yet soft enough on top to not be rigid, and an incredible deal. I hesitated at first buying this mattress due to some of the negative reviews that it has lumps or sinks in the middle, but that was not my experience at all. It sprung to life out of the box, and within 24 - 48 hours was perfectly formed. I use it on top of an Amazon Basics foldable platform bed frame (as a boxspring replacement) and it works wonderfully. I prefer the modern look of that too. The reason for my star deduction is due to the offgassing. I’m not calling out Zinus in particular, as I realize this happens with basically all mattresses (unless you get one of those specially made organic kinds), and from my understanding it is a result of both the chemical manufacturing processes and laws that now require mattresses to be flame retardant. To help with the odor, I let the mattress sit in a well-ventilated room (with a fan, open window, and air purifier), and each day lightly misted the mattress with a spray of water, white vinegar, and essential oil. The smell has diminished after a week and hopefully will continue to, though I realize that offgassing will likely continue over the life of the mattress regardless of whether the odor is detectable. Fortunately, I have a great air purifier that eliminates VOCs (volatile organic compounds) that I run in the room at night. Again, this isn’t meant to be a complaint against Zinus, but just a note for the consumer to be aware.

Comes packed in a box and expands to full size for me in 5 minutes. Didn't take more than 5 minutes to be ready to sleep on. I was scared it might take half a day. no such issue. I had a car accident 20 years ago and my back is wrecked. This and an ergonomic way too expensive fancy desk chair fixed it. This mattress is crazy firm. Personally i had to buy a 2 inch foam topper after the first night because as a side sleeper it hurts your shoulder. Evne with the topper it's still firm but very comfortable and supporting. I'm the type of person that lays on a mattress and 3 to 5 minutes i can easily tell if it's gonna hurt my back because my back is super sensitive if it's not gettin g supported. i've had this matress for almost 1 year and it's still firm as hell and the only thing excacerbating my back is when i slouch in my office chair. Not a bad nights sleep. I'd buy again. For the price a very good choice by me. One thing i will say it's it's not quite 10 inches. It's more like 8.5 to 9 inches. I also had no foul smell when i opened the mattress.

Had purchased a Zinus previously for our Queen bed/mattress and was very pleased with the price, quality of the item and quality of sleep we got. When we relocated and had a guest room for the first time, the Queen bed got moved and we purchased our first King bed. The bed we ordered was another Zinus - another review - and we didn't look anywhere else but Zinus for the mattress. Decided to upgrade to one with more back support. I love a firmer mattress and this one fits the bill. I'm not large (petite and 100 lbs) and this mattress supports my entire body so I can wake up ready to hit the ground running, literally. Hubs is taller 6'1 and 185; he loves it too. Even if one of us has a restless night, the other is not disturbed at all and we aren't experiencing any of the 'hot' issues that some of our friends had with a foam mattress. We are very comfortable while sleeping. It was quite heavy when it arrived and my driver put it inside the door for me. We used our dolly to get it into the bedroom, but two people could push it where you needed it to go. Once in a room, make sure it's in the middle with no obstructions; cut the seal and stand back to let the magic happen. We didn't sleep on the mattress the first night since we had the extra bed but the instructions say you can (although not recommended since it's been sealed). Smell dissipated quickly and slept on it second night. We've not regretted our purchase of Zinus products at all. If your ready for a new sleep experience, give Zinus a try - you won't be disappointed.

Overview: Choosing a mattress or a pillow is a matter of personal preference and taste. In reality it is difficult to provide an un-biased review of these types of products. This particular mattress from Zinus has been made from quality materials, and when people review these products, they usually give negative feedback because the product does not match their taste or expectation. I have read reviews that says the mattress is too firm, well, if you read the product description it say it is extra firm. In fact the first night sleeping on this mattress gave me back pain in the morning because my body was not used to it, but I wanted an extra firm mattress. After two weeks, after purchasing the right pillow, we love this mattress. I no longer wake up with the back pain. After a year and/12 the mattress sinks and I am not a heavy person only weight about 160 pounds. Initially I thought it was a bargain, but now know why it is sooooo cheap. Over time it sinks and create a huge dent and makes it very uncomfortable to sleep in. Quality; Although we are not paying $$$ for this mattress, it is made of great materials.It is very firm, however, the mattress has 1.5 inch of embedded soft pillow-top that makes it feel plush, but yet firm. Most reviewers have stated in their reviews that this mattress is of great quality and very sturdy. I agree. The mattress does not get hot, and it is evenly firm all the way across, even along the edges. Conclusion: Choosing a mattress is matter of personal choice and taste. If you are in the market for a firm, cool, and good quality mattress, then you cant go wrong with Zinus extra firm. The mattress is great for those who wake up with back pain and want to have a firm mattress. We put a 1/4 inch cotton mattress sheet cover for extra comfort and we are very pleased with it. Sure you can purchase purchase a mattress of your desired quality, but you would have to spend thousands of dollars, but even then people have complained about the most expensive brands, so you can't make everyone happy. I was in the market for firm mattress and this one a great choice for us, and I do recommend it.

First I want to commend Amazon because they have a selection of mattresses to be purchased online, and this was the first time ever that I tried (and failed) buying one online. Call me old school but I rather go to a store, lay down, check the quality of the built, and so on. I was impressed with the high reviews online, and decided to bite the bullet and give it a try. The mattress came vacuum sealed in a huge box, if you are in good share you can likely do it by yourself. I got a king size and was able to do it. Upon opening and waiting the 3 days noticed that the mattress sloped around the corners, like it isn't a perfect rectangle like all mattresses ai have owned before. I usually don't go for a pillow top, but judging by the pictures went with the king 12 inches with the pillow top. I can say if we didn't we would be sleeping on springs. Because I'd you touch any sides of the bed all you can feel are high tension springs, there is no padding at all - and thus my disappointment. If you are a side of the bed sleeper (like myself) or If you try to sit at the edge of the bed to put on you shoes or what not this will sink. I don't understand why they skimped out of adding foam/support around the "frame" of the mattress. If you are in the center you can't tell, but as soon as I roll the effect is immediate - and I am not a heavy person. The king 12 inches Is definitely firm. I had an Ikea Hagesund extra firm before and this is similar. But unlike my previous queen size mattress this isn't firm all around. This didn't work out for us, but If the shortcuts they take to make this spring filled mattress with a topper work are not an issue for you, then go for it.
