  • Might be the best window based air conditioning unit I've seen. Might be the best window based air conditioning unit I've seen.
This might be the best window based air conditioner I've ever reviewed. Granted it's still early in the season and I have a few more units Vine is sending me, but this over ledge version is so quiet that at full tilt it was still quieter than the air purifier I had running in the same bedroom on low. That is truly quiet for an AC unit. That's in large part because of the inverted U design, but also because it uses an inverter compressor and keeps the interior fan from making a lot of noise. The compressor outside is still quiet enough my neighbors will probably hardly know the unit is turned on. It's a good sight quieter than the house central AC even though the house compressor is 2 stories away and all that would be heard in the bedroom is the air from the fan. This unit does a lot of things right. There is a remote for those who like remotes. I personally hate remotes, so I appreciate the fact the remote is linked to the unit. That means the unit won't respond to random signals from other remotes. There is a wifi connectivity. The app is a white label Zafro version of a common smart appliance app. I've tested a lot of smart products so I know my way around the app really well. The connection to Alexa is really simple once you have it on your phone. Just remember when you are first setting it up you must give access to location and bluetooth because Google and Apple have configured location connectivity to require that even though it's a wifi connection. You can revoke it later, but to get connection you have to allow it. I don't like it either but from experience I know that's just how it is. It's not terribly hot outside today, but was finally hot enough I could test the unit. It took the bedroom it was in from 79 down to 75 by the time I started configuring Alexa and in the time it took me to have Alexa go through what skills it had available it was down to 71. So, it performs well. It does its job quietly. It looks good. It's gone through all the certifications (I've included a photo of the manufacturing tag for anyone else wanting to check on it). It has multiple fan and oscillation options. It can dehumidify (there is a drain hole on the lower left if it does get too much water inside). The window interface pieces fit well (they have double sided tape to hold in place). The unit can be easily leveled using screws which push against the outside of the building. It really is just great unit. A word about the drain on the left. You should almost never need to drain it. There's a pump, but if you allow the water filter to get clogged then it won't drain and water will build up. That means you really just need to do your normal maintenance of cleaning the air filter in front and the water filter below and drain if anything is there to drain. As with most things, your personal experience will differ depending on how dirty your air is, how many plants you have, if you have pets, etc. The leveling of the device is important, too. ... show more

  • Next Gen Window A/C NOT the APP. Super Quiet, Energy Efficient, 2 oscillator motions, nice remote. Next Gen Window A/C NOT the APP. Super Quiet, Energy Efficient, 2 oscillator motions, nice remote.
We ordered this in window unit to primarily cool our second story large master bedroom. We have central air conditioning but on hot Summer days & nights the central air unit does not always keep up and the rest of the house is too cold. Some of the “in room” A/C units that use an exhaust hose mounted in a panel that is then secured in a window to exhaust hot air. These typically take up a lot of interior space for both the A/C unit and the large diameter hose that may or may not stay attached or securely mounted in the window. They can be noisey and we have had that style fall out and blow hot air inside. Mini split air systems are expensive and require a channel that runs down the side of the house (not pretty). This unit is super quiet (like our central A/C), the manufacturer claims 35 dB. This makes sense as the compressor is outside and separated from the fan/oscillator. IT is SUPER QUIET and cools very well across all modes Low, Medium , High and EXTRA Mode for quick cool. The unit has two oscillating directions : up & down & side to side. This allows you to direct the air circulation which best suits you and just gives better overall cold air distribution throughout the room, minimizing cold or hot spots. These can be turned off & on independently on the face unit as well as the remote. The remote is a full function and works well. The company claims to utilize an APP and voice commands, I could not get the Zafro APP to work. I would ask to send a confirmation code but the confirmation code e-mail sent via e-mail was always blank. I gave up for now. The air conditioning unit functions great. It takes up way less area inside the room than the hose type models but does sit below the window ledge so you need to keep that in mind when positioning furniture or deciding on which window. The room air is drawn in via the front vent and then the cold air is returned out the top “flap” like slot.It is easy to install and comes with heavy duty, well made Solid spacers and foam to fill the areas around it. The face of the unit also has a nice display of temp and buttons as noted in pics. This can be used as a fan, A/C or dehumidifier but note the position of the drain hose for the dehumidifier mode. The instruction book & large quick start guides were well done and easy to follow. The exterior mounting adjustment needs some shim pieces or panels /planks in my opinion to keep it from harming the outside structure siding as my install will be for Summer only, then removed. IT is reassuring that this type is not as prone to “falling out” of the window like traditional “in the window flush mount units without the “U” shape design. I will update results of APP as that would be nice to use both voice commands and an APP when the remote is misplaced or in an inconvenient spot to reach as they always seem to be. ... show more

  • blown away by the quietness
this thing is literally whisper quiet. i had to double check that it was on after i had installed it in the window. it's highest setting is quieter than the lowest setting on our last traditional window unit, but it blows air just as well and just as cold. that already sold me. but lemme take you through my process. box slides right off to reveal some very nice secure foam padding inside, you have all your installation materials as well as a remote control and a quick start sheet that shows you all that goes into actually getting installed. getting it in the window was a relatively painless process. it was awkward at first because of how long it is, but given the shape of it you have so much better grip on the middle of the unit than you would with any traditional window, that once you account for the length it's easier than anything you've probably installed before. also lucky for me, i did not have to adjust the built in rubber feet on the outside of the window, it proveded me the perfect backward angle to make sure there was no accidental drainage into the room i installed it in. instructions suggest pushing the unit to one side and cutting the foam it comes with there, but i decided to center it instead for a cleaner look. all you need to do is measure the sill length, install your top sealing foam, slide the bottom support foam on the inside of the underneath of window sill under the unit, measure your gaps on either side (or just the one, if you're pushing it to one side like it suggests) and give it a cut. i used a bread knife to get the easiest and cleanest slice and gave it the slightest bit more to allow it to compress in place for maximum sealing. it also comes a lot of extra foam so installing this in a future window shouldn't be a problem should you move or install it into a smaller or larger window, although you will run out of this stuff if you throw the old pieces away... so i don't know exactly how they'll support you with more installation foam or if they sell that separately. there are no pull out accordion style things for this AC. just foam. well once you get it installed, you turn it on and it sings to you when it turns on and off, so that's fun. i also imagined it would get old pretty fast and found out you can turn that sound off relatively easily. the light on the front can also be turned off as well, which is perfect in my case as i installed it straight into my bedroom. now you got it installed, turned on, playin with the remote and checking out all the features. i figured out that not only does this thing have an auto vertical oscillation mode, but there is also some internal horizontal oscilation too, which allows you to direct the air very significantly in the left or right direction. this can be useful especially in a bedroom situation so you don't have the cold air accidentally aimed directly at the bed but still want the cooling working. the only awkward thing about it is if you enable the horizontal oscillation, you will need to turn it back off in the exact place you want it to stay. i don't know if there's a manual adjustment because i honestly can't tell where it's adjusting the angle from. i'd say set it once and leave it forever. the vertical oscillation works the same but it's dictated by the front white flap on the unit, which opens up automatically when you turn it on. if you'd rather not mess with the oscillation function, you can manually adjust that flap to the angle you want. it doesn't seem to hurt the function of the ac as far as i can tell. alright now we gotta figure out the app, right? easy enough. i use an android device so i scanned the qr code for my device and it took me straight to the play store. the zafro app is as easy as all the others. create a quick account, use a throwaway email however you want to set it up and get into it. follow the instructions for pairing it to your network (2.4 ghz networks only, this is common on ac units), let it do it's thing, and boom. now you have access to a remote to control all the settings on your phone. now i didn't take a super close look at the physical remote it came with, but the app has an "extra" setting, which gets you an even more powerful fan blast than the normal 1-3 levels you can select on the unit itself, so it's kind of neat that there's some benefit to using the app in some form. it also connects to your google home stuff if you want to be able to use voice commands to turn it on and off, you just need to pair the app through your google home app. zafro is listed in there and will allow you to tie your app account to google home to allow it to control the device. got that all set up too, no issues or mishaps with that. now all that about the network stuff being said, i know some units no matter who you buy them from can have issues with these connections, so in the future if i update this review, it'll be to let you know i ran into that issue. if you see no changes here, you may not have anything to worry about. honestly the thing is pricey. i can't get around that this is kind of a lot of money for what it is, since anyone can walk into a job lot or some similar store and find a unit with just as many btu's and a physical remote for maybe 150-200 dollars less brand new. it'll do the job and keep you cool when you need it, but these unit types are becoming more and more popular for a reason. i think given how absolutely ridiculously quiet this thing is, it may actually justify the difference in price if you are a light sleeper and the noise from a traditional AC might just be too loud. that alone makes it absolutely worth it for me especially in my bedroom scenario. the ONLY, ONLY true complaint i have is a nitpicky thing given the layout of my bedroom. i have my room laid out so the window i used this in is right behind my night stand. this thing juts out from the wall quite a good bit, about 6-8 inches or so, making my nightstand now stick even further out of the wall, which looks kind of ugly. i'm going to remedy that situation by getting a shallower night stand personally. you may not have this same issue, but it is worth noting that this thing sits VERY low given the style of it. so if you can't account for the space needed in front of your window, you may have to rethink how or where you might install it. i think with time and revision these will start to get much thinner in the front. here's hoping. all in all very recommended. extremely satisfied with this unit. ... show more

  • One important thing you should know!
Everything looked great about this product except one, some may consider minor but for me it was a no go so I am returning it. No where in the description does it say that it requires draining the water from inside the house/apartment , on the left side is a drain port that is not mentioned nor is there any possible way to obtain the user/installation manual. So be aware that this will require draining from inside into a container, how often don’t know they do not mention this or show this at all. I made the assumption that there was a pump that pumped it to the outside. I assumed wrong! That is the only reason for the 3 star! ... show more

  • U-shaped design... with the compressor on the outside of the window, it isolates the heaviest noise.
1. Whisper-Quiet Comfort The standout feature is the U-shaped design. By physically placing the compressor on the outside of the window, it isolates the heaviest noise... The Result: A quiet 32dB operation. It’s quiet enough for light sleepers and nurseries, finally ending the need to crank up the TV volume just to hear over the AC. 2. Efficiency Meets Power Don't let the "whisper" fool you; this unit is a powerhouse. With 12,000 BTU, it handles medium to large rooms with ease. Inverter Technology - Unlike old-school units that blast on and off, this maintains a steady temp within ±1℉. Cost Savings: It’s roughly 37% more efficient than standard units. With an estimated annual cost of just $61, it’s a rare win for both your wallet and the planet. 3. Smart Living & Flexibility ZAFRO has clearly prioritized the "Modern Lifestyle." The integration options are extensive: App & Voice Control: Use the ZAFRO app to pre-chill your room on your way home, or ask Alexa to adjust the temp when you're cozy on the couch. 3D Airflow: The 4-way airflow ensures you don't have one "frozen zone" and three "hot zones"—the entire room stays consistent. De-humidification: It pulls a massive 70 pints of moisture per day, which is a lifesaver during those sticky, humid August afternoons. 4. Thoughtful Design & Safety Most window units make your home feel like a fortress, but the U-shape allows you to actually open and close your window and keeps your view unobstructed. I was particularly impressed by the inclusion of a Window Lock for security and a Child Lock for the interface - details often overlooked by competitors. Noise Level 32dB (Ultra-Quiet) Cooling Capacity 12,000 BTU (Designed to cool spaces up to 550 sq. ft) Moisture Removal 70 Pints / Day Energy Savings Up to 37% over standard models Compatibility Single/Double-hung windows (24"-48" wide) The ZAFRO U-Shaped AC is a "set it and forget it" appliance. From the washable filter that keeps your air fresh to the 24H timer that automates your life, it removes all the typical issues of room cooling. Pros: Unbeatable noise reduction, massive energy savings, and keeps your natural light. Cons: Installation takes a bit more focus than a standard unit due to the U-bracket (but the payoff is worth it). ... show more

  • Cold, Quiet, and Well-Designed Window Air Conditioner Cold, Quiet, and Well-Designed Window Air Conditioner
This is a really nice air conditioner overall, and I have been happy with it. It cools very well and produces nice cold air. On very hot days, it can take a little time to fully ramp up and get going, but once it settles in and starts working, it moves a good amount of cold air and does a nice job maintaining temperature. I really like the vent design with the oscillating airflow. It helps distribute air more evenly instead of just blowing in one fixed direction. The included remote is also nice to have, but one thing I appreciate even more is that the unit is not dependent on the remote. If the remote gets lost, you can still operate the air conditioner directly from the unit itself. Installation was fairly straightforward, and the included foam insulation material is much thicker and tougher than what many window units include. It does a good job of helping seal the window opening. The unit does have a drain plug for condensation collection if needed, and if enough water builds up, it would need to be drained into a bucket inside the house. That said, I have not had to drain it at all yet, so I do not see it as a major issue. Even if it becomes necessary, it seems like a pretty minor maintenance task. One thing to be aware of is window compatibility. It should fit most standard windows, but I have one window with stucco pop-outs outside the house where the ledge was not wide enough for proper installation. One confusing part was that the package included some metal bars and plastic tubes, and I could not determine what they were for. The instructions never mentioned them, which left me wondering if something was missing from the setup documentation. Overall, this is a quiet, effective air conditioner with useful features and good cooling performance. ... show more

  • I have one of those homes with an attic "great room"
A lot of older homes, the attic was completed to make room for growing children to have space and that's pretty much how I'd say the room in my house came to be. As most people know, cold air sinks, warm air rises...meaning that the attic room that is a finished room, even with windows that can be opened to let out hot air, it never stays as cool as the first floor of the house. It also has forced air a/c but there is no ducting up in the attic - probably would have had to tear out some walls to run ducting up to that room and previous owners never did that. At this time, I'm not going to invest in that either, but I have found with this a/c unit, the attic area stays very cool. I don't have kids, but I have been setting up that large space for crafts and an exercise area and then we had some 80-90 degree days and I realized the room needed working a/c...fast! This a/c unit is a bit heavy for me to move, but I used a winch (or what I have always called, a come-a-long) to get it up the attic stairs and then, with some difficulty, hoisted it into the window. I really appreciate that it didn't need a ledge like the older type a/c window units need. The little side open-areas of the window that accomodate this unit were easily closed with the sealing foam and tape. When I first turned it on and got it synced to the app, I stayed downstairs for about an hour to give it time to cool the area. Wow...what a difference this a/c unit made in my large, open (finished) attic room! It's now a very pleasant craft area and exercise/workout area as well. I haven't noticed a "spike" in my energy bill either, so this works to create a whole level of cool for my house without sucking up lots of energy $ at the same time. Excellent! ... show more

  • Whisper Quiet and Cools Great
I’ve been really impressed with this U-shaped inverter window air conditioner so far. It cools the room quickly and keeps the temperature comfortable without constantly blasting on and off like some older units I’ve had. The smart features are a huge bonus too—the app and remote make it super convenient to adjust settings without having to get up. What I love most is the design of this unit. The U-shaped style is honestly genius because it lets the window close down between the indoor and outdoor sections, which helps block out so much noise. You hear very little sound at all when it’s running, and it’s quiet enough that I can sleep, watch TV, or work without any distraction. It’s easily one of the quietest AC units I’ve ever owned. Overall, this unit looks modern, works efficiently, and does exactly what it promises. Between the strong cooling power, quiet performance, and thoughtful design, I feel like it was definitely worth the purchase. If you want an AC that keeps your space cool without all the usual loud noise, I highly recommend this one. ... show more
