I didn't want an AC unit hanging out of the window so I tried this free standing 8,000 btu unit. It's very easy to set-up, just follow the pictures in the manual. When I first set up the unit and turned it on I had it draining into a gallon jug sitting inside of a small bucket sitting behind a recliner. The jug fills up every 3 hours so that's 8 gallons in a 24 hour period. After a couple of days I switched the drain hose from the gallon jug to the window sill by loosening the wing nut on the window panel and sliding it together half an inch to allow the drainage hose to fit through. I layed it down along the window sill so it would drain through the holes on each side of the sill. I didn't cut of the hose, just in case I want to put it back the way I had it before, no burning bridges. It wouldn't drain through the sill for me because the unit was too low. I got a foot stool that's 8 inches high and sat the AC unit on the stool. Be careful how you sit it on the stool because the unit has rollers on the bottom. When I turned the unit back on the water built up in the hose and started to drain out of the window. Where the drainage hose connects to the back of the AC unit must be at the same height as the bottom of the sill for it to drain properly, there doesn't seem to be a pump that moves the drainage water, it seems to be gravity feed. Just make sure the base you use to sit the unit on is sturdy, whether it's an 8 -12" high foot stool, cinder block or milk container. The 8,000 btu unit I purchased works great it keeps the living room and adjoining kitchen cool and seeps into the three adjoining bedrooms a little. I'm very happy with the AC unit, it keeps us comfortable in all these 90° days. I like the remote control that comes with it. I originally had it set to 72° for the first day on high fan speed then changed it to 76° and low fan speed on the second day and the unit started turning it's self off as the desired temp was reached. If the high fan speed is too loud for you at night switch it to sleep mode or just switch it to low fan speed. Very good AC unit for the price, would recommend. ... show more

I was able to unpack the a/c buy using a knife and sliding down one side on the the right, then the same on the left side. The unit was able to slide out without tilting it at all, as the instructions say: DO NOT TILT 4 HOURS BEFORE UNPACKING. SIMPLE ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS made it so easy for this Grandmother to assemble BY MYSELF. With an annual cost of $76, This summer of 2024, I've used it everyday. I purchased this one because like 5000 has already been sold recently, good reviews, and I didn't need to do all the research myself as to which one to purchase: I don't like to research: I bought because so many others has a good experience. As for cost: My window a/c that came with my home, it costs $10 A DAY to use. I can run this a/c all day for less than $1 a day, probably more like .50 cents. A DEAL FOR SURE. For my living room, it's perfect. My kitchen is attached as it is all open. So I use a fan from one room to the next to keep the kitchen cool if I need the kitchen to be cool as I prep meals. I love that is on wheels. I love that it's white and can only recommend that it can come in a tan color to blend in with my furniture, which is mostly brown: sofa, couch, desk, clock, turntable. Sound: Noise: is noticeable. I need to turn the TV up a bit. It sounds like a constant river running in my mind, so I find it relaxing and not annoying. It's how you think about it.: My room is cool, I'm by a river, and I can relax. And enjoy what shows I'm watching. For SLEEPING: it acts like white noise and drowns out little sounds that normally would wake me. VALUE: Paid for itself in ONE MONTH. My winow a/c that came with my home, cost $300 for 1 month. We were really impressed by this in home air conditioner. It not only was a good price but also functioned really well. We places it in our work loft and it helped the room cool down. Please be aware that depending how hot of a place it can only cool down so much but does an amazing job.
