If your batteries start to die the safe will beep THREE TIMES QUICKLY, you will need to use the backup key to enter at this point. To set the code, use the KEY to unlock the door. Throw away those Chinesium batteries and install some Energizer Max AA, it takes FOUR BATTERIES. Now, with the door open, twist the lock handle to extend the lock bars, hold the RED BUTTON on the inside of the door, while holding the button enter your new PIN number, then press the "E" button on the keypad, now release the red button on the inside of the door. You will need to enter your PIN number, press the letter "E" key on the keypad. Now enter your PIN a SECOND time and hit the letter "E" again. Door will display the green LED light on the front keypad and you will be able to twist the unlock handle to open the door bars. You are now safe to close and lock the safe. Energizer Max AA batteries last approximately three years if you open the safe twice per week. This safe is EXCELLENT for storing medication. Don't forget where you keep the backup keys, you WILL need them again in the future when your batteries die. ... show more

For a safe thats less than $50 you’re getting more bang for your buck. Yes, its easy as fly for someone to open that if they know how and are inclined to do so. But its strength comes in its small to hide size. If its cheap nature makes you fear for your valuables inside you need a better more expensive safe. I loved that the lock works like it should I can fit some stuff in there but it was not as big as I thought it was but it really works I love it and the keys also wear out after a while but I have had it for almost a year, the keys still work but I need to turn them a little harder than before
