    • Surprised this works! Neat little sewing gadget.
This is a very affordable way to quickly sew or hem. Is it efficient? Kind of but I think it depends on who you are and your patience as well as what you intend to use this for. It works well and I tested this with batteries and plugged in via the provided USB cord. It is easy to thread, although it does come pre threaded for your convenience. I noticed that this works a lot better the thicker the material. I have a sewing machine that I am not an expert at using but can use without too much confusion. So I'm not a total newbie when it comes to sewing machines. But for some reason I had trouble with the direction this went. I thought I was aiming in the direction I wanted to go, but ended up going the opposite direction. This might just be me not knowing the correct way to position this machine to go where I need it to go. Could be I just need more practice? I think I am just surprised this actually works. I have seen these for many years and have always questioned if they actually can stitch decently. I'm not sure I'd stitch a set of curtains or a dress, but for hemming or stitching something simple, this works well. I made a pin cushion as my test subject using left over scraps of material. The material is thin so I think that was a big part of the problem, however it did the job. I do wish there was a guide to keep it going straight as unlike a sewing machine, it lacks the space for the fabric to lay straight and flat. But for the price I can't really complain too much as it does work. Now the extras it comes with... The thread is not very strong but the small scissors arrived bent beyond use. But I already have sewing accessories so the bonus items were not a huge deal to me. So I think 4 stars is generous considering it works, does what it's supposed to and is so affordable and convenient. ... show more
