    • A great product - with some caveats.
After seeing someone mention these lights on Reddit and subsequently watching a video review, I decided to pick up a pair of these things along with a pair of batteries and a charger. Everything arrived nicely packed, and my first impressions out of the box were that the build quality is quite good. Sturdy plastic, no rattling or loose parts, everything is fairly solid. The included case is also really nice, and has a sling strap for easy transport. Getting the light working was a simple matter of popping in a battery (yes folks, do a little reading and research ahead of time; power is NOT INCLUDED), turning it on, and playing with the dials. The unit remembers the last mode you adjusted when you power it on, so if you shut it off while adjusting the 5500K lights, that's what it'll be using when you turn it back on. Adjusting RGB is a little cumbersome, but the RGB indicator on the control panel glows to the color you're currently adjusting so that makes things a little easier. Light output from the 3200K and 5200K LEDs is very strong, while the RGB LED output is a bit weaker (since there are fewer actual bulbs), but still quite usable. It also comes with a magnetic orange-tinted overlay for warming up the colors of the LEDs, but honestly I'd have preferred a neutral diffuser instead. It baffles me why they decided on orange. A big plus is the standard tripod mount at the bottom of the unit. It's made of metal rather than threaded plastic, so long-term mounted use isn't a concern at all. An in-built battery meter tells you the battery level reading (1-9) at the touch of a button. Where these things really shine is with the app. If you've ever used a Philips Hue system, you'll feel right at home adjusting the colors of these wands through the downloadable Bluetooth app. Unfortunately, while the app does provide for 8 separate channels of control and multiple websites advertise this product as having an "8 channel grouping function," it is NOT POSSIBLE to control more than one unit from one phone. This was my biggest disappointment with these units. I was really hoping to be able to individually control each light from a single device, but that's bizarrely not the case. I can get by with two phones each controlling one of the lights, but I do not relish the idea of needing to have multiple smartphones each controlling a single device - especially if I get more of these things. Overall it's a great product for the price, and I highly recommend it. Just be aware of the shortfalls. Pros: - Great output on the 5500K and 3200K lights - A nice case is included. - Metal tripod mount. - Bluetooth connectivity for easy control. Cons: - Bluetooth app can only control a single light. - Fewer RGB LEDs means weaker colored output. - Power (AC adapter and/or batteries) is not included. ... show more

What an unbelievably versatile and useful light! You can use it with a battery for use anywhere, or you can plug it into an outlet and have it run for hours. It's very bright, and has all the RGB and warm/neutral white light options you could ever want. It doesn't have a strobe or cycle mode, but it also doesn't really need it. I had been toying with the idea of buying some new lighting to change things up with some of my photos. After looking at the Icelight by Wescott, I decided that I was not ready to spend $$ on something that I wasn't entirely sure that I would end up using. I already have some Yongnuo wireless flash triggers and a Yongnuo speedlite and have been pleased with them so far, so I decided to take a chance and buy the YN360 light wand. Thank you Amazon Prime! It arrived the following day and I excitedly unpacked the YN360. It arrived in a nicely designed box with a soft black carrying case with a strap. and I was immediately impressed with how solid it felt. I expected it to be pretty lightweight and perhaps even a little flimsy, but it was not at all. One note to keep in mind is that the YN360 does not ship with a power source (no battery, no plug). It accepts standard Sony NP-FXXX style batteries which can be ordered cheaply on Amazon. I ended buying two DSTE brand batteries that have worked perfectly with the YN360 so far. There is a threaded opening on the bottom of the light so that you can mount it on a stand (which I have not tried yet). In terms of performance, once I slipped the battery on, the YN360 was pretty darn cool. The white light was surprisingly bright and highly adjustable with the use of a small knob. Then when I switched it over to RGB color, I was immediately mesmerized by the colors. The first thing I used the light for was to do some macro photography of a caterpillar. I was pretty impressed with the light and I had fun moving it around and testing out what I could do with it. The YN360 is very portable and I end up taking it with me whenever I go to a shoot, just in case I want to add a little extra something. Then once day last week I got asked to go help out on a small video project and I took it with me just in case. I ended up doing a mini photoshoot when I got there. We were in a tiny office and it was getting dark outside. I decided to use the colored light from the YN360 as my only light source and the artist was very happy with the results. So far the YN360 has been pretty amazing. No performance issues whatsoever. I plan on buying 2 more shortly so that I can get even more creative with my photoshoots. ... show more
