When searching for a DIY mini split you want a pre charged unit that has the refrigerant included. This Yitahome 12k unit comes pre charged with R32 refrigerant. You will however need some tools to install primarily #1 Vacuum pump there’s a lot of them on AMAZON that come with the Gauges and Fitting adapters to attach to your mini split for about $100 look for the pump and manifold gauge that comes with a R32 adapter for better fit when you Vacuum the line. #2 Torque wrench with an adjustable head that opens NO LESS than 22mm you can find digital ones just make sure the ft pounds has a range between 2 to 45 ft pounds the ones at harbor freight that you attach to crows feet wrench heads don’t have adequate range of torque. And if you don't already have crow's feet, a set with the size you need could run you $45. So in the long run just buying an adjustable digital wrench is more cost effective You can buy a digital adjustable wrench for around $69 but at the time of the review ours was no longer available and the prices went up however a analog torque wrench is cheaper but as a diyer, the digital ones are easier to understand You can just select the torque according to the instructions in the manual and the light will light up when you're at torque and make a beeping sound. #3 a 2" or 2 1/2 inch hole saw bit to cut the hole thru the wall for the linesets. You should angle the outside hole slightly lower than the inside hole for proper water drainage. We used 2" PVC schedule 40 pipe that we had lying around The line sets fit perfectly through it. We cemented a flange on the end of it so it wouldn't slide back in the hole and get lost in the wall. #4 Nylog blue sealant to put on the flare tips (not the threads it could lead to overtorquing) of the copper refrigerant lines. $12 to $15 on amazon a small bottle last a long time. #5 a Mini split wall mounting bracket or a base for the outside unit these units aren’t very heavy and can hang on the side of your house as long as it’s a secure wall and since the outside units are also very quiet, they really don't vibrate a lot. Our hanging mount was adjustable and had a level built in it cost $34.99 (Nouscan heavy duty mount supports up to 400 lb) the cheaper ones that you have to level out each hanger separately were terrible if you didn’t measure right and have to move the bracket you wind up putting holes in your siding. It came with vibration pads and mounting screws. Home Depot sells a similar one for $74.99 also, if you're in the region with snow, make sure to mount the outside unit 12 in higher than the snow line. You can buy enclosures or make one for the outside unit. #6foam pipe insulation tape to wrap around the copper couplings. $10 for a 16ft roll (optional but recommended) the mini split comes with white wrap as well as putty to cover gaps in the wall to keep bugs out. The white wrap is not a tape. Also optional is a wall tube to run the communication wire and line sets thru the wall it adds protection against pest and if your going thru aluminum or steel siding it protect the lines from cutting on the metal. We had a piece of 2" sch40 PVC plumbing pipe and a flange cap that we cemented on the outside end to keep it from sliding back into the hole. We cut to size and the lineset slid thru perfectly and looked good on the outside. Use some of the white wrap to wrap the line set from the inside unit before sliding through the hole. A lot of people on YouTube don't do that but it helps. The inside unit powers from the outside compressor thru the black communication cable then from there powers to a disconnect box the maximum is a 20amp fuse according to the side panel sticker but may vary besure to check the side panel of the outside unit for amperage. We decided to put a waterproof RCD GFCI plug ($14.99) on the wire for the power on the outside unit to plug into a dedicated wall outlet so we can power it with a generator if there’s a power failure. This makes the installation faster and if you don't already have a disconnect box you don’t need run a line of wire to the breaker box. Even with the cost of vacuum pump and torque wrench etc. the Mr Cool with the no vacuuming lines that’s completely plug and play cost around $1700 for a 12k BTU unit and these units are so much better than window AC units The new inverter window AC units cost around the same as a mini split but we noticed that they don't offer the heat option that costs a lot more. Once you realize how easy it is to install these, you'll probably want to install more. We installed 2 already and plan on installing another one on a separate property. The WiFi option only works on 2.4 ghz WiFi you have to download the AC Freedom app our unit didn’t have a QRcode or numbers anywhere on the inside unit the work around was to create a profile in the AC freedom app then on the remote press the Health button 8 times within a second you’ll hear 2beeps and the app will show you a temporary AC-xxxx number that you can connect with. You can use your phone as a remote unfortunately, there wasn't anywhere in the app that would let you schedule a time to turn the unit on .You probably have to use the same process to connect to Alexa or try to do it a the same time on 2 different devices I couldn't get the Alexa app to find it. Alexa has pre recognized more popular brands like Della and Mr cool in there app but not Yitahome. This unit does not have the side grill but the Mepty mini split we ordered 1st didn’t come with one either we plan on surrounding the outside unit with privacy panel anyway so it’s not a big deal you could probably use chicken wire cut to size if your worried about it being open weirdly the grills are expensive on Amazon and don't look like anything very. Morning Our other yitahome unit does have a really nice thick wire grill on it and a cover that goes over the inlets you'll have to look at the pictures of different yitahomes to see which ones have one but it might not have all the same features that this unit has but there's several different Yitahome units on Amazon. Both inside and outside units are so quiet you can barely hear them, you think this isn’t going to cool but then about 30 minutes later your freezing Amazing difference from a window AC and its so quiet you only hear it when it's on Turbo to cool the space Quickly can't wait to see how it operates in the winter. **Update FYI we didn't have a problem with this unit install but the next Yitahome we just installed the factory flare tip on1of the copper lines was badly flared,when we tested the pressure with the vaccum pump the pressure failed so we checked all the lines before Torquing them again and found a poorly flared tip it broke when we torqued it the 1st time I saw another review where people changed the copper lines entirely, but that adds more cost. This is covered under our asurion multi-device protection plan. We didn't want to add more cost. You can buy a good flare kit from Harbor Freight for around $10 it made perfect flares and the tube cutter was $4 . Worth it! Some people online recommend reflaring all the tips instead of trusting the factory flares after that air leak we decided we would to especially since it was so easy to do. The manifold gauge that came with our vacuum pump went bad on our third install so we bought a digital Elitech manifold gauge DMG 25E $45 worked so much better than the Analog one and since we're doing multiple installs the cost was worth it, it still kept us under the Mr. Cool $1,700 unit it came with adapters specifically for R32 units the R410 work but there longer and have a slight bend these are shorter and straighter. There's a ton of videos on YouTube on how to install mini splits. Our first one took us a while but the second went faster and third one took longer because of the pressure issue and the bad manifold gauge. The cheap vacuum pump we got that came with that manifold gauge though still works really good. The whole vacuum pump set cost us $99 came with the lines adapters and an analog manifold gauge but the gauge turned out to be crap so you might just want to get a vacuum pump and buy a digital pump separate a lot of these units seem to be R32 refrigerant so look for R32 when you're buying a manifold gauge. ... show more

I ordered one of these for our 24x24 cabin, we really like it and is very quiet and efficient. The instructions were a little bit confusing, and I wasn’t sure if it came with Freon and oil. I called the manufacturer and they were very helpful. They said it has both the Freon and oil already in it, and if you needed longer than the ten foot length of tubing, you might have to add more Freon. So if you don’t have gauges, a vacuum pump, special fitting, or a tubing cutter, this unit probably isn’t for you. You would need a professional installer to do it, and usually if you didn’t buy it from them they won’t touch it. ... show more

Quite disappointed with this product it’s doesn’t really keep 350 sq ft cold it cools somewhat yes but not as it should. The horizontal swing doesn’t work and item was dirty and dented upon arrival. It was however easy to install and is extremely silent.

Install and Customer Service

Installation was manageable to complete if you took the time to go through and think out the directions. With this being the second installation of a unit, what was learned that made things easier was to put the pad approximately 10 inches from the wall and do not put the copper lines into the unit your can safely can make slow and smooth bends of the copper piping to an approximate location of where the compressor was gonna be going. Problem I'm having it this time is connecting the Wi-Fi to the unit. I have called Customer Service twice and they have responded to me once by immediately picking up the telephone in the second time by receiving a email the next morning and what to do to call them if there was any other problems. I have a neighborhood who purchased a difference system, and he cannot get a hold of the company for both the parts question and the Wi-Fi issue so far there has been just a great experience. ... show more

Very disappointed had it working fine until it started messing up within the month after we no longer could return it back called the manufacturer and they were no help at all it stated 5 yr warranty on parts yet they said they didint. Said they were gonna send someone to look into it but nobody ended up showing it was even showing an error code we told them about that they said there was no way it was a showing a code but literally was popping up on there.. we had two Hvac people come and even take a look and they couldn’t even figure it out sooo wasted all this money on something that didint end up working. ... show more
