    • A Great Little Meter, Well Worth The Price!

I do construction and automotive work. I have expensive Fluke meters in the construction trailer and in my toolbox in the garage. I wanted an inexpensive meter with an AC and DC amperage clamp to carry in my truck for those times when you need a volt ammeter and aren't near your tools. I was impressed with the compact size, it has weight (not a cheap plastic housing) and readings compare closely to my expensive Fluke meters. So far within a few days of its arrival I successfully diagnosed a vehicle charging system problem, located an overload problem in a home electrical box and located a faulty home electrical outlet. The last one was what I was most impressed with using this meter. As you may know, when an electrical outlet fails you can lose power at multiple outlets or lights as the circuits run in series. With typical no contact voltage detecting pens (like Fluke) you can detect power but need to touch the wire or stick the tip in an outlet (which is great in a lot of situations). This meter has a built in non contact voltage detector (in the tip of the amp clamp). I was able to scan through the walls from 8 inches away and detect live AC wires (outlet to outlet, outlet to switches and switches to lights). The closer you get to the live wire the faster the meter beeps. I detected power to one outlet and no power leaving it. I removed the outlet from the wall and it was one of the cheap ones that the bare wire just pushes in the back. It had arced causing a burned spot and no power to the exiting wire. This alone only took a few minutes which paid for the meter itself in time savings! ... show more

This is the nicest meter I've ever owned. The features for this price are hard to believe. It is very nice construction, does not seem cheap at all. It actually seems very well built, came with a nice zipper case, and very nice leads (as good as leads that came with a Fluke I have). I was specifically looking for a DC current clamp in order to trouble shoot some automotive electrical problems. I found this, which will be my main meter from now on. It is a great size, small but not too small. Auto-ranging on the measurements. All functions work. It has a backlight for the LCD screen that is off by default, but turns on if you hold down the "HOLD" button for a few seconds. TrueRMS too for this price! I didn't notice when I purchased it that it has a non-contact AC voltage detector as well. That was a nice surprise and will come in handy doing house wiring projects. The only down side is I could not find anyone in the US who sold it. It was shipped direct from China. They did ship it very efficiently though. It came more than a week before the earliest estimated delivery date. So I can't complain personally, but having a delivery window from a couple weeks to over a month is definitely a deterrent when ordering something on line. ... show more

I bought this meter mainly for the DC current capability. I already have an AC clip-on current meter that works fine. The meter appears well made and feels good and you are unlikely to accidentally drop it with it's non-slip coating on the sides. My first application was to measure the DC current going to the HID ballast I just installed on my motorcycle. It worked fine for that. You need to first select the current scale (20A in my case), press on the blue button to select DC (the meter defaults to AC), press the black Zero button to null the reading (more on that later), clip the meter over the wire through which flows the current you want to measure and read the display. When the DC current scale is selected after powering the device (and before pressing the Zero button), the display indicates about 400mA. After pressing the Zero button, the display indicates zero. However, simply moving the meter around will cause the "zero" to change, depending on the orientation of the meter with respect to the earth's magnetic field. The maximum deviation I have observed is about 40mA. So my recommendation is to zero the meter while it is in the position where you will make the measurement, or as close to it as possible, so that the "zero" does not change when you clip the meter around the wire. As long as you do not move the meter, the "zero" seems stable, so it is actually possible to measure a DC current of a few mA, which is quite remarkable for a DC clip on meter that costs so little. The other scales do not need the "zero" button and a cursory review indicates the meter is working as advertised. The display is clear and well contrasted. The meter operates from two AAA batteries and the battery compartment cover is held with a screw, so you are unlikely to lose it, a good thing. The meter ships with a transport bag that also contains the test leads, which are adequate for general electrical wiring usage, but probably a little too big for small electronic circuits. The sensitivity to outside magnetic field seems to be the main difference with the professional grade meters that cost 5 to 10 times as much. For the home, I find that a perfectly acceptable trade-off. ... show more

I purchased the unit T UT210E after researching for a compact AC/DC current clamp capable of reading mA. In my line of work I troubleshoot low voltage outdoor control and automation systems. I wanted something I could carry in my tool bag, jaws had to be small enough to fit in crowded junction boxes and panels. I just received the uni-T UT210E today. But Ive already used it to test a couple DC operators. Tracked down a couple sources of AC leakage current causing EMI interference with a couple of in ground inductive control loop. Is more than paid for it self in the first 4 hours its been in my hands. Granted I had located these problem areas prior to receiving this Uni-T with my fluke scope and current probe and megger earth ground/ leakage clamp. I left these problem areas alone to test the small UT210E in a real world scenario and to see how accurate it would be. To my surprise this litte $40 is on par with my $5000 scope and $2000 megger. Which are both bulky, time consuming and expesive pieces of equipment to carry and set up just to check low current draws on equipmet and trace down current leakges. I dont have any comments about the voltage side of the meter because I only bought for the current clamp. Ill stick with Fluke for all my voltage reading. By the way I looked all of fluke clamp meters and I could not find any stand-alone meter that had the range capability’s of this UT210E which is honestly the only reason I went this rought but verry happy I did. Since the UT210E is so inexpensive and accurate this may end up on the list of required tools for all new technicians. ... show more

This is a great little meter. It is the third I've purchased. One I gave to a friend, one is at my place in FL and another I keep in the camper. The DC amperage clamp is really handy when working on 12VDC systems. My only complaint is that it sometimes flips over when I probe something and I can't read the screen. Overall, since I've bought three, I'd say I'm very happy with this little unit. I am not compensated at all by the vendor. ... show more

Awesome product at an amazing low price. This is a fine meter. What a surprise when it turned up - this is a serious measuring device ，tiny and very accurate. Comes with probes that are insulated so only about 1/8" metal is exposed，because they come with the end shields that allow you to contact the test points without shorting out adjacent wires.Of course these plastic shields can be removed to allow the entire probe tips to be exposed for inserting into AC outlets, etc.. I did not have probes like this and they are useful for circuits as I do not have to worry about accidental shorting. The fact that it can read amperage without opening the circuit, makes troubleshooting very easy. This is a well designed feature packed meter. It has very intuitive controls and is very compact, so it is easy to store. It also comes with a nice carrying pouch. Even better, it has instructions in English to guide me how to use it.This has become my favorite multimeter. I use it on a nearly daily basis. ... show more

Probably one of the best true RMS cheap multi meters I ever used. I looked it up and found an electrical forum website of some sort with a review and technical break down of this unit and that's what sold me on this one. It's not like a big brand unit, but it's pretty comparable. The only gripe I have is that the needle size for the probes could be a little longer. So I just swamped those out with my other probes. I suppose the small needle size probes that this unit came with is great for electronics troubleshooting. For me it's mostly for the clamp meter feature using my home made AC line splitter, measuring voltage for batteries, and checking continuity. I will no doubt use the other functions latter on. And yeah, the clamp meter portion is on the money as far as I can tell. ... show more
