  • Nice (expensive) mouthpiece
Model: SM825E
Most reviewers love the Vandoren mouthpieces, and I have to agree. This one was much bigger then I can use, but it was (for some reason) reasonsbly priced so I got it. I have 2 other mouthpieces, and when this one arrived I imediately put it on and tried it out. Sound was surprisingly much different from my others (Selmer C* and Rico Metalite). My wife asked me what had changed after I had played it for about a half hour. When I told her I got a new mouthpiece, she said it sounded like a different horn, really nice. BTW my horn is an old Selmer SBA from the late 40's - and she's right - it sounded really nice to my ear too. Deep rich sound that is hard to explain, (but everyone tries). But since the opening is pretty big and I'm not playing as much as I should, controling it is too much effort for me. I use Bari plastic reeds exclusively these days (lower cost, no maintenance). Maybe a softer rereed would solve it. So, I love the sound, and recommend the Vandoren V16, but be sure to get one with an opening you are ready to play now, and you'lll be likely to put more practice hours in - simply because you enjoy listing to how nice it sounds. ... show more

  • This is a great mouthpiece for producing a big wide sound
Model: SM826E
This is a great mouthpiece for producing a big wide sound. I find it works particularly well with a ZZ3. It's not as focused as the 9 which is to be expected but has a lot of flexibility and nice full sub tones if desired. Big Dave

  • Great flexibilty at a reasonable price
Model: SM822E
I have only been using this mouthpiece for a week but I love it already. I primarily play alto sax,, but I recently purchased a used Yamaha tenor and I tried several tenor mourhpieces before I decided on this model with a 6 tip opening with medium strength reeds. This seems to be the ideal setup for me, and I can go from from whispering subtones, to robust, rich centered tone with sufficient brightness in the upper register at louder volumes. To my ear, this is giving me a sound that can be used across a broad range of styles and settings. A saxophone mouthpiece is obviously a highly personal choice, and others' mileage may vary, but I am highly satisfied. And the price is much less than other comparable mouthpieces that do not seem to be as flexible, in my opinion. Highly recommended. ... show more

  • Freeblowing
Model: SM822E
This mouthpiece is amazing. It has a bigger tip opening than my old mouthpiece, a Yamaha 4c so I thought that I would have difficulty playing low notes, but it is very freeblowing. Like all new mouthpieces you have to get used to them and find the right ligature and reed setup but this one still plays great out of the box. ... show more

  • Very popular for a reason
Model: SM823E
I have tried this mouthpiece on my Yamaha 62III and my naked lady. On yamaha it works really well. sounds bright. clear and sound-full and good intonation. However on my naked lady, I couldn't get a good intonation and tone. I prefer dark tone and couldn't make the dark tone that I like on this mouthpiece. However, overall quality and the tone it makes is wonderful. It is very consistent and you can feel the craftsmanship of this mouthpiece. I would recommend it but also warn you that try it out before you purchase it. ... show more

  • Exelente
Model: SM823E
Me gustó mucho su sonido, solo que para mí la número 7 es muy ancha, si consigo esta referencia en número 6 sería mi nueva compra .

  • Good mouthpiece. Very even response through registers
Model: SM825E
Good mouthpiece. Very even response through registers. I ordered T9, it is a bit open for my taste but I knew that when I ordered it. Really strong high range with clear altissimo. This is being played on a M7 tenor.

  • too quiet
Model: SM822E
The T6 has a nominal tip opening of 2.5 mm (98 mils). The one that I received measured slightly more open. I could not play it much louder than mp. Even that volume was difficult to attain. No baffle to speak of. It's a beautiful mouthpiece, and has a lovely quiet sound, but it takes a lot of air. It's not for me. There was evidence of a tooth patch having been removed, so I am not the first to send it back. ... show more
