I love the build and look of this unit. I love being able to see inside as things dry (it's even lit), as other driers hide it behind an opaque door. It's light weight but built well, a little smaller than most dorm fridges. The buttons are easy enough to us, but can be finicky at times. My only real qualm with it is not power-glitch tolerant. With my other dehydrator, it's a simple timer knob mechanism... if the power blips or goes out for a few minutes, it automatically continues the cycle when power returns... not so with this unit. Being computer driven, if power goes out and back on, it'll just sit. So beware if you live in an area with a regularity to power outages.

I ordered this to make jerky and dried fruit. I used my smoker to make jerky in the past but this machine makes it more of a "set it and forget it process". This is my first dehydrator and seems to be a high end unit compared to many smaller units on the market. It is an attractive unit, is lighter weight than it looks but seems to be solidly constructed. I have the 14 tray unit and it holds a LOT of food. I fit 5 pounds of beef jerky and 2 pounds of bacon in the unit at the same time. I used all 14 trays. The unit performed like a champ with 7 pounds of meat in it. I used two wireless thermometers to monitor the difference in temperature at the top tray and the bottom tray. The top tray was warmer than the bottom tray but I expected that. The difference between the top and bottom evened out as the unit ran longer and warmed up. The trays are made from thin stainless in my opinion and you need to be careful when handling them so you don't bend or break them. They are supposed to be dishwasher safe but I hand washed them. I might put them in the dishwasher on a light wash setting. The unit is quieter than I expected. The top of the unit definately get hot while in use and the sides get pretty warm. I really like the digital controls. There are many presets for different types of food and you can also set custom temperatures and times very easily. The one weird thing I found was with the controls. Turning the unit on, selecting temperature, and starting the unit works as expected with the digital control buttons. What is weird is when pausing or turning the unit off. There seems to be a long delay from when you press the pause button to when the unit actually pauses. It works the same when you power the unit off. It takes like 30 seconds to actually perform the task you select. I have gotten used to it but the first time it happened I thought the unit had just gotten locked up or stopped working. I know it is just a delay now. I can live with that and am very happy with this dehydrator.
