Works perfect, right out of the box. No assembly required.
What a dream this was to spend. I started with a 5 oz super bulky yarn, just to test it right out of the gate and I am extremely impressed. It gave me a great size cake, tight and uniform. It stuck to the counter very well. The adjustable screw on it has a great grip and worked perfect for polished granite with minimal overhang. The upright to hold the yarn in place feels strong and it didn't move around through winding an entire skein. Perhaps best of all though, is absolutely no assembly required. It works out of the box and then it fits right back into the box it came from. Highly recommend

Fantastic Buy - DO IT!
I sure do love this! I'm newer to the crocheting scene, but I am making big blankets, so hand winding my skeins of yarn was getting old and slowing me down. This tool has saved me time and it's really satisfying (and my kids like to help, too)! It holds a great deal (esp if you wind it tighter, idk if you're supposed to do that, really, but whatever) and makes a nice solid cake that is very easy to slide off. It's easy to attach to a table and stays while you wind. Mine came with directions, but I didn't really need them to figure out how to thread the yard through or attach the piece - it's pretty obvious what goes where. Great price point, too. Don't see the need for an electric one when this one does the job just grandly!

Works well!
Works really well so far. Only cons: 1. this will only create smaller balls of yarn (maybe 1/2 skein). After a certain point, the yarn starts getting caught under the bottom plastic barrier. 2. The clamp limits where you’re able to attach it. If you’re ok with the above, I highly recommend it!

Easy to use
I have never had yarn winder before. I love the way this one works. It is smooth and easy to use. It makes nice cakes of yarn that are easy to crochet with. It will fit on many different sizes of tables with the clamp.

Easy to use, and so useful!
Putting awkward skeins and yarn balls into cakes has made storage much easier for me. I can stack them in a shelf, and they don't roll or flop. I think a cake also just looks nicer on a shelf than a skein. I have never used any other winder, so I have nothing to compare with, but this one works very well and very consistently. You can wind either direction, but I find that it is easier to wind clockwise, so the guide arm stays in place. I also find that everything goes more smoothly if I hold the yarn feed slightly above the guide arm to keep it from getting caught around the bottom. This probably wouldn't even be an issue if I had the winder right in front of me, but it is on a table to the right of my chair, and the yarn is in a bowl on the floor, and slightly to my left. If I can use it easily in that configuration, that says a lot!
