Pros: Easy setup with secure tabletop clamp Winds yarn smoothly without tangling Compact size, easy to store Great value for the price Works well with a wide range of yarn weights Cons: Clamp only fits standard table thickness (may not work on very thick or rounded edges) Can be a little noisy at higher winding speeds Quality: The build feels solid and durable. The plastic is thick enough not to feel cheap, and the metal crank turns smoothly without slipping. The gears engage well, and the yarn guide stays firmly in place during use. Size & Fit: Compact but efficient. It doesn’t take up much space on my craft table and fits comfortably in a drawer when not in use. The clamp works well on my desk and dining table, though extra-thick tabletops might be an issue. Value for Money: For the price, it’s a fantastic deal. You get a reliable winder that performs as well as some higher-priced options, making it excellent value. Durability: After several uses, it still works like new. The crank mechanism doesn’t wobble, and the clamp holds steady without damaging surfaces. It feels like it will last a long time with normal use. Ease of Use: Setup took less than 2 minutes. Just clamp it to the table, thread the yarn through the guide, and start turning the handle. Even my first skein wound into a neat, center-pull cake without tangles. Overall: This yarn ball winder makes winding skeins quick and frustration-free. It’s a great tool for both beginners and experienced knitters or crocheters. If you deal with yarn often, this is one of those small investments that saves a lot of time and hassle. Highly recommended! ... show more

    • Great product, but ONLY for small skeins
Color: Purple
This is a great product for the price. The only reason I took off a star is that it wasn’t very clear that this is for smaller skeins. I wound up making a huge mess of a regular size skein because I tried to use this winder for it. It got so tangled that I had to throw the yarn away.

My grandmother had a yarn winder and I've finally got my own. I get my yarn wound up in no time, making it easier to use especially if you like to pull from the center. Great for repurposing and organizing yarn before it gets tangled with other yarn. I am covering my newly wound yarn cakes with those disposable dish and bowl covers that look like mini shower caps for safer management of storage. (Before I began using it, I joked with my husband that it was a UFO radar detector, lol! Maybe the grandkids can borrow it for a prop in a Sci fi video!) ... show more

    • Exactly what I wanted!
Color: Purple
So easy to set up and use! Has picture and written instructions. Took less than a minute to set up and I turned a 16oz skein into squishy cakes in only a couple minutes! It is a good size and adjustable to different counter or table heights. My daughter helped and thought it was a lot of fun! Definitely recommend for the price! ... show more

    • Good Budget option
Color: Purple
This is a good budget option if you just need to ball a couple skeins every now and then. If you are amore dedicated yarn enthusiast, you may want to spring for a slightly better quality one and highly recommend a swift, whether separately or as a combo. Without a swift I constantly had to stop and fix mild tangles and minding the original yarn bundle. The clamp is just not that sturdy and secure. It comes off somethings from the turning of the knob to work the winder. The body is a tiny bit small, I did a standard ball and it was struggling to stay on there towards the end as the ball was getting a bit too large for the machine. That being said, it worked and got the job done. If you are looking for an affordable machine and you don't think you will use it more than once or twice a month, this will work just fine. If you are a big knitter or crocheter, like my friend's, you might want to go for something a bit more robust. I think I would have given it a solid 4 if the clamp was better and sturdier. the spool being larger is a minor gripe as it still fit, even if it was having trouble at the top near the end of the skein. so I would go with a 3.5 if I could. The added notions are cheap and honestly I wont use them, so I will not factor them negatively in the rating as I se them as a freebie. ... show more
