As a fiber artist (that means I use various fibers to create items btw) an important part of my work is having great tools to perform said work. I use yarn everyday and yarn doesn’t come in just one form. It can come in a skein, it can come in a donuts 🍩 , it can come in cakes 🎂 , it can come in hanks, and if wound already by hand, it can come in balls 🧶. In my working with yarn I know that sometimes the way the yarn comes will not always work for my use, and so I must wind it to a different form that is easier to use. That is where this yarn ball winder comes in. Ease of use for this winder is extremely simply. It does come with instructions and they are quite clear, though I didn’t need them as I had a working winder before. It took 1 minute to put it together and get going. And going was indeed what I did. In my below pictures you see the cake that this winder produces. THIS is how an excellent winder should produce your cake of yarn. It is precise and smooth, though the sound it makes could be annoying but, I listen to music with headphones when winding cakes, so I could FEEL it, but not hear it. I did hear it before I put the headphones on though and it didn’t really bother me. I appreciate the knob that is on this winder for attaching it to the table. You turn it to adjust the table clamp distance up and down. This is so much easier than spinning a wing nut 💯. The only thing about this winder I do not like is the angle of the tension arm. It is positioned straight out in front of the winder. See my pictures to see what I’m talking about (excuse my table, it gets crowded). The metal tension arm is not to the side. It is better in a side position because I can use my yarn swift easier from the side. Straight out like it is, means I can not use my yarn swift, at least not on this table as I usually do. Also the tapestry needles are appreciated, but the choice of stitch markers was a poor one. These type of stitch markers tend to fall out when moving your project around and so I have them but never use them. This yarn ball winder works great. It works exactly as it should, it is small and easy to store. it was in a couple pieces when it arrived, but was super easy to assemble, just 2 or 3 pieces total. The winder is pretty smooth and works great.
