Installation was a breeze. The setup process within the app was also simple with one exception. I have three people that will be using this and on registering the fingerprints, we noticed that one user's fingerprint registered with no issues and unlocked the door with no issues. Myself and the other user could not get the lock to unlock with the fingerprint. When re-enrolling, we pressed more firmly with the center of the finger and it registered both of us without a problem. The takeaway is that if you treat this like Apple's TouchID you're going to have a bad time. It's a firm press and hold and the lock unlocks every time. All 3 of us are able to use the fingerprint with almost 100% success...which is way better than using a key. I read a lot of the reviews and saw that people were having issues so I figured I'd mention the firm press requirement. Also, I was prompted with a firmware update when adding the lock so that may have something to do with it. For the price this is a great investment, especially considering that I didn't have to replace or install a new lock. We had the old keypad and it was awful....we put that one on the back porch for emergencies. ... show more

    • giving touch access is impossible if you don't have a unique not already used phone number

This is specifically around the 'touch' functionality , you can get a non-touch version for $30-40 less, and as far as I know the normal code entry works fine but touch is a different beast. my use case is that I have 3 young kids that I don't trust with a key and probably will not remember a code. All I wanted was to put their fingerprint in and have them use that to open the door. Simple, you might think, but the people who designed this software made it as complex and useless as possible. Eventually, after having to call customer support, I found out that you can only give fingerprints to guests who have app access, and you can only give app access via a phone number, and you can't reuse a number. So to make this work with my kids I would need to get my three young kids unique phone numbers, which I obviously can't do. What a complete disaster of usability. The app is already complex enough when you try to add a lock but this level is beyond bad. I had to call customer support to get an answer to this. Terrible. ... show more

This Yale smart lock is one of the best home upgrades I've made. The fingerprint reader is fast and accurate — unlocks in less than a second. The keypad works great as a backup and setup was straightforward. The deadbolt feels solid and the build quality is excellent. Love not having to fumble with keys anymore. I’ve had this for about three months now, and overall, it’s a pretty great product. Installation was fairly easy, and it mostly works well. The only minor issue is the fingerprint reader can be a bit fickle at times—I sometimes have to wipe down my finger to get it to work.     • Poorly engineered, likely to break.

I have had this keypad for a while now, and I'm downgrading my rating substantially. The problem is the keypad can not be taken off the door to change batteries without a pin to depress the latch on the bottom. When you do this the latch ointment the bottom is just as likely to break as it is to open. Totally unnecessary bit of engineering there. Use screw or something like Ring does, and make it much easier to change batteries. A classic case of engineer trying to show how smart he\she is and he\she does something totally useless for the end user. I have three of these keypads and two of them now have broken latches. They're far more susceptible to falling off the wall now. Just a fail of engineering. The keypad itself is pretty good, you just shouldn't be risking breaking them just to change the batteries. ... show more

I've had a yale/august lock for a while now and it has been a constant struggle. From our previous keypad dying weekly to the auto-unlock feature meant to react whenever the phone came close not working, my mom and I were constantly frustrated. Finally, I decided to get this little addition, and it's like all our problems disappeared. Despite, some issues my first attempt at using the keypad, it has been so lovely to use. The keypad is much better than our last one, and the fingerprint works well too. However, we have not been able to add a second fingerprint. Only my mom has the app, which according to the internet should be able to add multiple fingerprints, but so far is only allowing us one. Regardless, I has been absolutely lovely. ... show more

I have been an August customer since the very first smart lock. And I’m done with them after tonight. This product arrived new- and never worked properly. First, let’s talk about the build quality. It’s cheap. Second, their QA sucks. The Bluetooth component is messed up in this device. It shouldn’t never left the factory. Third, the instructions are literally 2 tiny pieces of paper. No manual. Fourth, about the customer service. The worst part. I spent a half hour troubleshooting, and then spent ANOTHER half hour troubleshooting with August/Yale’s support. The poor guy that tried to help me was found everything he could, but even after a half hour call establishing that it doesn’t work, they wanted me to send a video (of what???) showing that the Bluetooth doesn’t work. They wanted me to waste even more of my time just to get what I paid for. When the call was recorded, and they already know it didn’t work. It made absolutely zero sense. In short, a bunch of awfulness. It sucks. They used to be a great company. ... show more

Glad we don't depend on this for regular entry. Like some other reviewers noted, not great. The integrated fingerprint scanner and keypad lock initially seemed like a great addition to home security. However, after testing it back to back, several issues have come to light. The lock is remarkably slow, taking an excessive amount of time to recognize a fingerprint or register a keypad entry. This inefficiency is compounded by its unreliability – frequently failing to unlock the door even when a valid fingerprint or code is entered. Moreover, the build quality leaves something to be desired. The device feels flimsy and cheaply made, detracting from the sense of security it is supposed to provide. The keypad's sensitivity is another inconsistency; while it responds to touch when the keypad is handled, it often fails to respond appropriately when attempting to lock and unlock the door. In summary, this lock's slow performance, unreliability, unclear operations, and flimsy construction make it a disappointing choice for anyone seeking dependable home security. We kept one as a backup and for guest access but certainly not for daily use. ... show more
