  • Entry level yarn winder
I already have a 10oz yarn winder that works great but I got tired of pulling it out of the box, setting it up, then putting it away. So I wanted a smaller one that I can just permanently attached to my shelf for quick yarn winding. The reason for 4 stars is they it's a bit squeaky, but otherwise, it works great! ... show more

  • Does what it's supposed to do
Before purchasing I looked for YouTube videos on this item and found one by The Crochet Crowd. He explained how to set up and and use it. Reading thru some of the reviews, I question if they're using the product correctly. Regardless, I have found it to be reliable, useful and it saves a tone of time. ... show more

  • Good product
The media could not be loaded. Packaging was horrible but thankfully everything worked, I’m pleased with my purchase

  • Gets the job done-ish
Pros: - Cheap - Effective - Winds yarn without getting caught in gears below (like other similar ones). Cons: - Only works well for acrylic yarn.. anything else lighter in weight will unroll itself. - Good tension is needed or it will unroll itself - The clamp at the bottom has a weird.. "sway" left and right, which causes it to be ineffective when clamping down on surfaces. - The gears aren't that "smooth", but it's good enough for the price. Overall, I honestly just needed one to get started, but if eventually I would opt for a more expensive one in the future. ... show more

  • Ok for the money.
Hit or miss on winding yarn. After a year or so of crossing my fingers and hoping it worked, I replaced it with a more expensive and reliable ball winder. So I'd say for the money, you get what you pay for. If 50% is OK for you and you don't mind dealing with yarn barf, then go for it. But it was frustrating to me. ... show more

  • Gift for my wife
My wife really likes this for winding leftover yarn. It creates a neat ball that you can feed the yarn from the inside. Her only complaint was that she would like for the center spindle to be a little smaller so the center hole isn't as big.

  • Quick and easy!
I’ve been looking at these for a while mainly debating on brands. I like this one because my table has a wider ledge that the ones ones clamps couldn’t fit. I made 2 cakes immediately and went to the store for more yarn now that storage will be easier. If you’re on the fence, but this one.

  • Makes small cakes
If you are looking for an economical way to wind your skeins into cakes, this works. If you're looking for a way to make small cakes for traveling, or to do scrappy projects, this works. This makes a cake about half the size of ones you would buy in a store. See my picture. It's taken with a standard size crochet hook for reference in size. You also have to make sure you hold a steady, downward tension as you are slowly winding the yarn. You cannot go fast nor have the yarn coming straight (level) through the guide. You'll end up with a mess. Slow and steady, with the yarn being pulled upward into the guide. Yarn should be on floor level. Not too tight, nor too lose of tension. You have to practice with this and nay have to rewind the cakes a few times to figure it out. It's not perfect, but it's economical. ... show more
