    • This DOES NOT have a variable temperature control.
This is a very well built unit, especially for the price, BUT: I returned the first one as the variable temperature controller (knob) was broken (or I thought), because it only would heat up at the highest temperature setting. I contacted the company –– no answer. Got the second unit from Amazon –– EXACT same thing. Effectively, there is only one temperature, so it may as well be a toggle switch. I made sure the grounded outlet was wired correctly in case that would be a factor. I don't trust this unit as it doesn't operate as specified and that could result in a short, otherwise I'd keep it with one setting due to the price. As it is, I'll be sending back two units now. Painful. I guess you get what you pay for. ... show more

    • Obviously cheap, but it costs $30 or something.
No temperature control at all, weird burning oil smell when running at high temperatures, but you know what? It costs $30 and it both heats solutions AND stirs them. If you need more features, don't get this, but if you just want to heat stuff up while stirring it, this is your guy.

    • It was damaged in shipping.
It works but there is a 1cm dent on the heating surface and a 1x2 cm long dent on the side of the housing. The fuse that came with it was broken in half. Otherwise it seems to work. I'm not actually a scientist put it spun my magnet and heated my flask. I'm annoyed by the dents and the broken fuse though. And the fuse cost me $5 to replace. Not a lot of money but it is 1/7th the total purchase price of this. Worst of all. WORST of all. I couldn't find one fuse for sale by itself. So I now have 19 extra fuses that are going to clutter my over-filled junk drawer even more. I won't want to throw them out (I paid for them and I might need them) but I should. I'm never going to use them and it's gonna piss me off every time I see them. ... show more

The temp control is very finicky. The first 25% of the dial does nothing, but once it gets turned to a point you'll hear a electronic buzzing 'click on' so you know it kicks on the heat pad, and at this point (10'oclock) the lowest temp you can get is roughly 160-degrees F....but even then the plate has different heat readings all over the plate itself. Im guessing the heating pad is located near the rear of the plate because that picks up the hottest reading, where as the front of the plate is about 40 degrees cooler. With the heat dial set straight up north (12'oclock), you'll get temps around 240-degrees F. With the dial set to about 2'oclick is roughly 270-degrees F, and then set to absolute max I got 320-degrees F on my laser thermometer. Overall it does the job for how cheap it is. ... show more

    • Takes hours to get hot.
The machine takes 3 hours to get water from room on temperature to 160 degrees. I live in the desert room temp is about 80 degrees.
