    • After some initial challenges boiling water, this hotplate works great.
I got my new hotplate. This is my first hotplate and chemistry is a hobby, so I have no formal training. My first test was to boil water. I put 250ml of water in a 500ml beaker. I inserted the probe. I set the temperate to 100C and turned on the hot plate with some mild stirring. Everything seemed to be going great until about 97C. Then I waited. And waited. And waited. I thought maybe something was defective. I checked the probe temperature against another digital thermometer and they we the same. But the water would not get above 97C and would go down a bit and then come back up a bit. In figured 600W was plenty of heating to boil water. I tried heating canola oil to 180C and it worked fine. Also, I was able to boil water in an oil bath with the probe and some boiling stones just fine. I went back and boiled the water by cranking up the hotplate to 280C. After the water boiled, I was able to keep the water boiling by using the probe and setting the temperature to 110C. This may be well known to people with formal training, but the issue seems to be the heating algorithm. It tries to heat the substance slowly, but, my guess, is that the water starts to evaporate enough as it gets close to 100C that without a little extra punch of heat, the hotplate heats enough to evaporate the liquid but not boil it. It also may be the beaker and other vessels with better heat transfer work better. Anyway, it is not a big deal to crank up the temperature manually a bit to get the water to boil. ... show more

It does work. But not very happy that within a short period, the hot plate is rusting. Not due to corrosive environment or moisture. I think the heat has flaked the coating, and with a low alloy steel for the hot plate, it just rusts easily Kinda unsightly, not very sterile, but I am still using it. Would not buy again, however, and suggest others find a more rugged version. At this price point, we should expect rusting “ceramic” surfaces. (looks painted on to me, but maybe there’s “ceramic” in the paint?) ... show more

I'm pleased with this product, so far. I just started working with it less than two months ago. My first order through Amazon was a disaster. I purchased a new digital heating stirring machine, but the Mophon Co sent me a used dirty and non-functional unit. The shipping company was unprofessional and would not rectify the problem. I finally appealed to Amazon directly, they promptly refunded my money. I make many purchases from Amazon because they wonderful to deal with. ... show more

These items are not cheap but this one comparatively provides better value for the dollar. I like it much better than more expensive brands I have used in the past and considered purchasing this time. I'm very glad I chose this one. Highly recommended.

This hot plate works perfectly. It holds temperature very well and heats up 2000mL beakers very easily. The mixer is very powerful but not super effective with extremely viscous liquids. (Some products I test are like mud.) The best feature is the temperature probe, although I do wish it controlled the thermostat instead of just indicating how hot the liquid is.     • Not suitable for Australian's power supply
Amazon should state this clearly for international orders - in Australia we use 10A/240V power, but the appliance come with US power rate (110V). Can be used in Australia, but need to purchase additional power/voltage step-down!!!.
