  • Don't expect any extra features. It does what it is designed for.
The G106 is exactly what it is intended to be. A very basic, but reliable HF QRP transceiver. I tend to waste no time putting radios to the test, and this one has passed. For a minute I thought it had a problem with low Tx power, after further investigation I found that I actually had not one but two faulty pieces of test equipment. The radio was fine. I do have to mention that Radioddity provided excellent support while I was diagnosing the issue. Bottom line is it's a good solid product that is priced appropriately for what it does. ... show more

  • The DE19 works great without any issues at all
The DE19 will allow the Xiegu G106 firmware version 1.4 (and other Xiegu radios of course) to run WSJT-X and JS8Call perfectly without issues for sure on both Windows 10 and Linux Mint. At first I struggled to get the G106 working in digital mode. But once I figured out how it all works it was a snap. You literally take the DE19 out of the box, plug it in with the 3 supplied cables, and you're done. You never need to touch it again. No drivers needed, it just works. For anyone having trouble getting digital mode to work on the G106: The "Mode" on the radio must be set to U-D. For "RIG" in the radio settings of WSJT-X, using ICOM 7100 works without issues using "CAT" for PTT method. For me the tricky part was understanding what exactly the audio settings in the computer do, which are absolutely critical to get FT8, etc. to work properly. If the audio output in the computer settings is not set high enough, the radio transmitter output will be low or even zero. So the red "transmit" light will come on, CAT control and everything will appear perfectly normal, but you will have nothing (or something less than the full 5 watts) going to the antenna. If that's the case you have to search for and find the Audio Out adjustment slider in the computer and adjust it higher until you see 5 watts being sent to the antenna. On the G106 it's a big help to have a watt meter in line with the antenna to get it adjusted perfectly. This is important because if you set the Audio Out too high, then that will over-drive the transmitter. I have seen my G106 put out over 8 watts by having the Audio Out on the computer set too high, which doesn't sound healthy for the radio. The other critical adjustment in on the WSJT-X software itself. This is the "PWR" vertical slider adjustment on the far right side of the WSJT-X main screen. What this does, at least on mine, is adjust the power output of the G106 the exact same way as the Audio Out does on the computer. Again you need a watt meter to adjust this perfectly. I assume this adjustment is a percentage of the Audio Out value in the computer. Just play around with both of them to get the actual transmitter power right. Using a combination of these two slider adjustments I can vary the power output of my G106 to anywhere between zero and a little over 8 watts. At first I tried to use FLRig but had to give up on it, I just could not get either WSJT-X or JS8Call to work with it. But I found it is totally unnecessary. Just use Icom 7100 for Rig in each. All this to say the DE19 works great, requires no driver software, and is all the extra hardware you need to get FT8 and JS8Call to work. I hope this helps anyone struggling to get the G106 to work in digital mode. I wish I knew this when I first got started. I'm very happy with my G106/DE19 setup for digital modes. ... show more

  • Easy FT8
I was able to get my G90 sending and receiving FT8 very quickly using the DE-19. It’s about as close to plug-and-play as anything in ham radio… which means it’s harder than using an iPhone, but much easier than, say, programming a Baofeng HT (or a VCR, if you ever attempted that). Maybe there are still cheaper ways to make this happen, but you’ll be stringing together various devices and adapters where the DE-19 comes complete with all the hardware you need. Older modes like RTTY are tougher to get going, but that’s due to the clumsiness of FLRig / FLDigi compared to WSJT-X. I’d definitely recommend getting FT8 going before you move on to other modulation protocols. Nice surprise: my young daughter actually gets a kick out of “helping” with FT8, though I think she’d rather scrape paint than watch me work SSB. Something about the periodicity of it, and the XMIT light clicking on… then you start looking up callsigns on QRZ. You never know what’s going to resonate with a preschooler. ... show more

  • Awesome with the G-90
Super easy and hassle free with the G-90. Went digital in minutes.

  • Works Great
Works very well. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the shell is fairly thin plastic. My G90 seems to be built like a tank, which is what I prefer for packing it etc.

  • Tried both even direct cables.
Much better than the CE-19 module. Combines sound card and cat control in one unit.

  • Great price. Great performance.
Setup was easy. Function was excellent. Got on ft8 in 10 minutes. Took longer to configure the software than to hook it up. I like that I only need 1 usb port instead of 2 like other interfaces. Best bang for the buck for my G90 as all the necessary cables are included. Other brands you have to purchase the cables separately. ... show more
