  • Amazing! Lots of Fun!
Despite the fact that it took forever and a day to get games downloaded, this is quite the game! My daughter loves it and I was not really paying much attention to it. But once I sat down and watched her playing, I could see why she was enjoying it so much. It looks so real! She's been playing the Forza Horizon driving game, and having a lot of fun. She can drive on streets, the beach, the outback. It's amazing. I hope we find more games for her to enjoy. She said the controls work great. No frustrations with that. And the game seems to offer a lot of variety, so it's not something kids (or adults, I'd imagine) are going to get bored with quickly. Lots of fun! ... show more

  • It Kicks Ass
I purchased the 'Name Your Game' version because all I really wanted this for was to play Rise of the Tomb Raider. I hooked it up on January 5th and noticed the code for the free game had expired on 12/31/16. After a slight panic attack I entered the code nonetheless and I received the code back in an email within minutes for the download code of the game I chose. A couple minutes later I was downloading Tomb Raider. Some observations and why I chose the xbox over the PS4. 1. It connected to my homes high speed Internet in literally seconds during the initial setup. My son's PS4 did not. It needed to have a router connected by a cable to enable a high speed connection. Otherwise the speed was under 2 MB per second on wifi. A big plus for the Xbox. 2. I purchased an external drive for my son's PS4 but to use it it needed to be taken out of its case. The PS4 needed to be opened up, and the hard drives swapped out. User data also needed to be backed up on a thumb drive. All this to find out the drive was ever so slightly to big to fit in the PS4's bracket. I had to buy another drive which to fit his PS4. A totaly different story for the Xbox. I plugged the drive which wouldn't fit into the PS4 into a USB connector on the back of the Xbox and boom, it asked me if I wanted to format it to store and play games. That simple, nothing to open, just plug & play. I also chose the Xbox One over the Xbox One S because both devices are the same for game play (there is no 4K game play on the One S) except the One S has an over clocked gpu. Had the One S came with Tomb Raider I would have chosen it since it does play slightly better with the over clocking. As far as playing Rise of the Tomb Raider? it is pretty awesome. I am very pleased with this purchase. ... show more

  • My Experience
The console itself is great. If you enjoyed the 360, you will feel right at home after 5 minutes of booting up. Just sign into your Xbox Live account or create a new one and you're good to go! The box states that the system is backwards compatible with 360 games. Unfortunately I discovered I had a defective model 3 weeks after purchase. The system would not power on for some reason. I tried another power supply, but it didn't make a difference. I even had another party try my power supply and it was fine. From what I gathered online, this issue is very rare. The return and refund handling by Amazon was excellent. I decided to get the slim model instead of exchanging for the same model. I remember back in the days of the 360 when I had to send the console to Microsoft in multiple times due to system failure. I switched to the slim 360 model and had better luck. My 360 slim still works to this day. Like I said before, the system failure rate for Xbox One is very small. I wouldn't avoid this model just because of my issue. Game consoles are reasonably priced, but can be expensive to some people. I decided to invest in the slim model based on my past experience with the 360. ... show more

  • Incredible graphics and gameplay
When my second Xbox 360 bought the farm with the "red ring of death" I swore off gaming consoles, and wished that Microsoft would get nuked from orbit. Well, I got this Xbox One for Father's day as a complete surprise, and have played it quite a bit since then. It had the 'name your game' feature (I chose Forza Motorsport 6), and also touted backwards compatibility with select XB360 titles, which is nice, since you can buy them just about anywhere used for $10-$30. First, the bad: I had a few hiccups with the 'name your game' redemption (how can a download be "out of stock"??), but eventually got my game. I set the console up to be 'instant on', but discovered that the BRIGHTEST WHITE LED EVER is always illuminated as well as a micro fan in the power brick, so that only lasted a week before going to low power mode (with no fan and a dim orange LED). Despite being well within the 19' range, the controller occasionally disconnects during gameplay. Updates take FOREVER - like 20 to 30 minutes - but this is the price you pay to leave it in standby mode. Xbox live is a money grab. Now the good: I cannot believe how incredible the graphics are in Forza. It's like playing a movie. While I don't have a ton of time to devote to playing a game, I do get completely sucked in when I do. On a 43" 1080p/60Hz TV, it's incredible. The controller is also excellent and comfortable. I am on my third set of AA batteries, though - I would think that a rechargeable controller (or at least a battery pack) should be standard on a console in 2016. ... show more

  • You will NOT be impressed, 3 Months of ownership.
Surprisingly slow, the Xbox one under impresses at every turn. Lacking many amenities that made the 360 an excellent console such as comfortable controllers, ability to play games off disk, compact size, and replaceable hard drive (shocking since game installment is now required and most modern games will take up 40-50 gigs of space) , the Xbox one is a step in the wrong direction. Game installment can take hours and it can be all night before you are able to play your new game. Annoyingly, you will still be required to insert a disk even once it is sitting on your hard drive, taking up 50gigs of space. In addition, my particular xbox was poorly assembled and buzzes loudly whenever a disk is inserted. And to top it all off, the interface is slow and buggy, with my Xbox experiencing game, app, and the occasional fatal crash. Oh and did I mention the restart time? Overall, I was and continue to be very unimpressed with my Xbox one and I strongly believe Microsoft can build a much better console (as evidenced with my 360, which still soldiers on). Lets hope they can redeem themselves with the Slim. EDIT: 3 Months into my career with this sh*tbox, one of the controllers that came with the console has already gone kaput. The controller constantly signals upward regardless of stick position. And wouldn't ya know, the warranty on "accessories" is only 90 days! Yay my controller lasts only 3 days longer than the warranty! For some perspective, all 5 of my original Xbox 360 controllers are still working without problems. Also get ready for routine half gigabyte updates that don't appear to change anything, CONSTANT BUGGINESS with the interface and the console just straight up refusing to do things such as start a game, app, or even log out of a user. Aaaaaand the Xbox One slips from 2 Stars to one. You really dropped the ball on this one Microsoft. ... show more

My saved for a year to buy this and wasn't disappointed. Since he had to buy all new games, it was nice that there were some games that came with it. The download for the games takes forever, but based on other reviews this can't be avoided. I can't tell a difference between this and the Xbox 360, but my son claims they don't compare and this is waaaay better. Bottom line, it works, easy to set up, and my son is happy. ... show more

  • Don't let the low star ratings fool you.
I have owned this system for a month now and have had no issues with it at all. I was also able to get my Game Code within seconds of following the directions on the card that is with the system in my e-mail. Yes, the updates can take a while, and, yes, game updates can take a while as well, but it is worth the wait. As for some not being able to get their Free Game, I believe that they were probably not following instructions. I almost didn't buy this due to some reviewers giving it a low rating, but I chose not to listen to them and bought it anyways. Glad I did. ... show more
