  • Review of Fallout 4 and Xbox One Bundle
Amazon Shipping: I had pre-ordered this bundle and it arrived 2 days after the release of Fallout 4 with standard shipping. Everything was in order and decently packaged Install & Setup: The system and Fallout 4 game did have some significantly large updates, so the setup time could be lengthy (obviously depending on the Xbox online services or your internet speed). I did want to mention that after the updates on the system, it was operating unusually slow and kept freezing up when trying to update my profile and system settings. After a few days of use, the system isn't operating nearly as slow, so it may of been the software update that was causing this, but too hard to tell. Overall, I'm really not much of a fan for the Xbox One's menu layout, as it doesn't seem as operational and intuitive as it did on the Xbox 360. Fallout 4 Review: My experience playing Fallout 4 so far on Xbox One has been good. 11 hours in there's been a few bugs and glitchy graphics here and there but that's to be expected with large-world games such as this. Below I've listed some of the pros and cons I've noticed about the game...so far anyways: PROS: - The landscape of the world and the layout of many of the levels are very well done. - The game doesn't have a ton of jaggies (AKA aliasing problems) compared to so many other games out there - Smooth and operational controls - Combat compared to the previous Fallout games is definitely better. Shooting a gun looks and feels more authentic. - Load times in-game are typically of acceptable length - Huge variety of tasks, quests and side quests you can do in the game - Soundtrack is awesome!!! (Gotta love the main theme) CONS: - Animation of the characters is of marginal quality - The new dialogue menu you have with other NPCs is sometimes too ambiguous to know what your character is actually going to say - Modding weapons/armor is fun but sometimes frustrating to find necessary items to improve your inventory - VATS is sometimes hard to acquire hits as the characters are still moving as your using it (not like previous Fallout games) - The occasional encounter of a bug/glitch and drop in framerate Overall, a decent purchase. However, as others have told me anyways, if you're comfortable w/ PC gaming and have the hardware to play this game, or are even thinking about it, purchasing Fallout 4 on PC maybe preferable. The frame-rate is increased from 30 frames per second (on Xbox One and PS4) to 60 fps (on PC), the graphics are generally a little bit better and there's always extra content for various mods on PC that aren't released on the console systems. However, Bethesda has announced that for the first time, they're planning to offer downloadable mods through a system that's similar to PC known as "Stream Workshop" to Xbox One and PS4 sometime next year. It probably won't have the same amount of content that PC will have, but it's a very good idea. Not to mention new quests to be available on upcoming DLC, there's obviously still a lot more to come for this title. ... show more

  • With the delivery I was very happy. With the general product I was happy it ...
As you do not specify what it is that you actually want reviewed I have had to use my own judgement in that capacity. Not a particularly is decision. With the delivery I was very happy. With the general product I was happy it performs, so far reasonably as expected. I have to admit that I was not happy about not being able to purchase what I was originally after which was the Elite edition advertised. I waited the allotted time as to when it would be available. I logged into the system on the day it went on sale and despite attempting to purchase a 3 AM that morning it was not available. So I went to a fallback plan and purchased this in its place. I am not entirely happy with the game, not that it isn't a good game but rather the lack of information available. Not instructions come with the games and if one is new to it or game consoles there is not consideration given to new comers to be able to play at any level competitively anyway. I would think that new gamer's would always be a priority. With that said I was not particularly impressed with the install speed of games onto the system. I purposely purchase games on disks to avoid download issues and always having a hard copy in hand. Even with the system hard cabled to the modem, as opposed to wifi, having the disk the game and updates took what I would consider extraordinarily long times to install. I have experienced a couple of times when the system would appear to hang. That is to say, I could move my character around (spin and look up and down) but could not move him at all, could not access other controls either. So could not exit and re-enter to see if reloading would repair the problem. Couldn't open the pip, good thing it wasn't in the middle of a melee although that might have been better to die and let the system restore to the last save point. Your marks would and should have been higher because a good deal of work has been put into this system and game and it and the team deserve better but as a whole I couldn't quite bring myself to raise the grade more to more than 3 stars overall. Again this is being based on my overall perception not on any one aspect. But that is what you get when you give half directions and most of this is being directed at Amazon but Microsoft doesn't get off the hook here either. So close! ... show more

  • The Xbox One has changed the face of gaming...
So far, so good. The Xbox One is really a marvel of technology. Microsoft crammed about as much performance into this machine as possible and it really shows in the latest generation. I have been a desktop gamer (someone who uses a computer, not a console system like this) for many years, but finally got tired of it when I realized that system upgrades were generally costing me $500-800 every time I wanted to play the newest games (which was every few years) and I could get a new console system for less than that. So, starting with the Xbox 360, I switched over to console gaming and never looked back. The controllers make life easier (some complain that there's not "as much" that you can do with a controller vs. a keyboard but I feel like a keyboard system is just way too complicated) while still giving you plenty of features (two top hats, directional controller, four buttons, two triggers and two bumpers - that's 13 ways to interact with the game (since the top hats can also be pressed as buttons too) and I think that's plenty). So, fast forward to this purchase of the new Xbox One with Fallout 4. Wow. The graphics are amazing. Gone are the days of people/creatures looking like polygons, they look like people. Computer generated people, yes - we haven't quite hit the live action virtual reality level yet, but the level of detail and quality are stunning. So, from a gaming perspective, I'm thrilled with the Xbox One. Then there's the features of the system itself. Gone are the days of a gaming console just being a gaming console. Now, with the Xbox One, I can play games, listen to music, watch movies, Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, surf the web, chat on Skype and MORE! Did I mention it can integrate with your CABLE SERVICE?!?!?!? Being able to switch from a game to watching TV or Netflix or whatever, quickly and easily is amazing. Being able to leave a game, jump into something else and then come back to the game UNINTERRUPTED is mind blowing. I've never seen anything like this and it really has to be experienced to be believed. So, after I got the Xbox One, I decided to grab a couple of games at GameStop as well as picking up a gently used Xbox One Kinect. Whole. New. World. So, now I can *talk* to my Xbox, tell it to turn on, turn off, switch to a new app, play, pause, change channels...if I could ask it to get me coffee in the morning, I'd be all set. On top of that, the Kinect + Live Gold = Fitness apps. No joke, they have free ones. If you're a couch potato like me, these apps are amazing. Get your butt up off the couch and make sure you spend 30 minutes with Fitness. If you're a workout nut, I think you'll find something in there for you as well. P90X anyone? Insanity? Just amazing. To sum up, the Xbox One has changed the face of gaming consoles to become entertainment companions. It's no longer "Where do you want to go today?" it's "What would you like to do with your time?" Gaming, education, TV, movies, fitness...what else do you need? ... show more

  • Game is great, when it works
Game is great, when it works. I think I have a glitchy unit. The Xbox one crashes constantly. Playing a game and it takes 5 minutes to load. Attempt to bring up help menu in dashboard may take 3 minutes and result in an error. Restarted over and over, cleared cache etc. going to give it another few days but if this does t resolve will be sending it back. ... show more

  • Worked at first; ended up having issues some time in.
It was exactly what I ordered and arrived promptly. It was perfect at first but after having it for a year, it seems to be having some issues. Reboots on it's on and some things won't work right away. I use the PS4 more so it didn't bother me as much. But if you're a strictly Xbox person, this is kind of a bummer. ... show more

  • Overall review
5 stars to Amazon, 5 stars to Fallout 4, but a B to the manufacturer of the Xbox One with details at the bottom on this review. Amazon is by far the Best company I have dealt with on dealing with any problems hince the 5 stars. Minor problem with my new Xbox One Fallout bundle was taken care of with a replacement at my doorstep in less than 20 hours from time I called them after opening the shipping package. My hat goes off to Amazon's problem solving abilities on getting the job done speedy. On Fallout 4 I'd give 5 stars. On Gameplay: I have played Fallout 1,2,3, & New Vegas. I've played about 30 hours of Fallout 4 now & here is my honest take on the game. Be prepared for a challenge. Am playing "normal" gameplay & not "survival" gameplay. May play survival on the 2nd or 3rd play through as I see a replayable game. Graphics have great eye appeal. Very detailed environment on items such as guns, buildings, etc. The looks of the people are better than the previous games, but not quite there yet. Be prepared to die often early in the game until you get better experience to use in the SPECIAL traits. At normal game play I've run into about 4 legendary opponents with interesting items once they were defeated. When you first start out I'd recommend putting points to the locksmith skill, hacker skill, & gunslinger as pistols are what you run across early in the game with the locksmith/hacker skills allowing access to areas you like to go to. Makes the game more manageable with those base traits where is more fun to play instead of getting frustrated when you character has too few of any one thing. The new vats combat system slowing down time with opponents still reacting in real time while you aim/fire instead of freezing time like in previous games makes Fallout 4 a more challenging game. That espically goes for dealing with legendary opponents. However, it adds to the game. Nothing should be a cake walk. The ability to make structures, etc is a nice touch. Along with being able to update weapons etc. Again, it is obvious they spent a lot of time on allowing players this option with the detailed everything in the game. On container contents I do like what they did better than previous games. When you pass your aim over a container it shows if anything is there & allows you to take anything with a push of a button instead of having to open the container. MAKE SURE you save often. The unexpected can happen. As well on some instances I've run into a few corrupt save files which will not load. By quick saving you won't loose much game progress. I do have one last tidbit that is simple & fairly easy. At a chem station make Grape Mentats with 2 hub flowers, 1 whiskey, & 1 mentats as this gives you +5 Charm/10% better buy/sell when bartering for 8 minutes. Helps early in the game to get as much as possible out of items you sell if you store several items by a vendor before you use the grape mentats. On the Xbox One I'd give a B instead of a A; Mainly as the manufacturer requirement of Internet even though you are buying disc games not downloadable content to play. I have never not been able to use anything right out of the box which is the case here. Took me a little while to chill out about this(ok, ok sleeping on it overnight made it less of a impact). I think those like me( most likely a minority in today's world) who do not use online gaming or have access to high speed internet at home will be a bit of a put off from the day one update you are required to do before you can even have a access to the system you just bought. I think they are trying to keep the console running as smoothly as possible with system updates immediaty which is understandable, but difficult for us without high speed internet to deal with. I used a friends high speed & took a little over 2 hours to download & set up console before I could use the Xbox one along with the Fallout 4 update. If you do not have any high speed access at all you may want to stick with the Xbox 360 as the day one download is daunting . Once you do the day one download Xbox is definitely a very nice upgrade from the 360 from a non hardcore gamers point of view. I play 2 to 3 games a year at most & do not play online games. Why should I spend $600 a year for high speed internet just to play a game not online, but a game disk I paid for. I hope Microsoft will release updates to the Xbox One via Internet downloadable content that I can transfer to a flash drive then to my Xbox One for updates. I do need to mention if you have kids who will be using it you may want to hold off on getting a Xbox One until they either put out more games for everyone for the Xbox One or more backwards compatible games for younger people. Hope my experience helps anyone on deciding on upgrading to Xbox One as required day one download took some getting use to. ... show more

  • Disappointment
I have yet to contact the seller directly, but needless to say there are a few issues to be had here. The Xbox One came exactly as it should: 1 Xbox 1TB, 1 Xbox One Controller, 1 Fallout 4, and all the wires and such. Additionally that is not listed, but is photographed is the headset, which also came with the package. Now onto the issues.. First the box came slightly damaged, and not the amazon box, but the box that the Xbox One was actually inside of. Second the HDMI wire has some sort of error going on with it, or the Xbox itself does, as when it starts up the screen has lines running through it as if the visual component is failing. After a few short moments it goes away but nonetheless should never happen (no it is not my TV). The controller burns through batteries like there is no tomorrow, so don't get any cheap or second rate batteries because they won't last more than an hour (not an exaggeration). Lastly mic has some issues now and then where the audio feed will just cut out completely. Other than that, the thing works as it should (freezing now and then, but that's what happens when QC doesn't care about the customer), looks nice, and came on time. 2 star rating because I expected better as my Xbox 360 was refurbished and I had less problems in 5 years with that, than I have had in 2 weeks with this. ... show more

  • A good platform if you have the right games to play.
I purchased this for just one game at the time. Fallout 4. Which is what this was bundled with. I have put more than 700 hours into that game on this thing. I have bought every expansion pack for it. I love this game. So... that made this a very expensive game. :-) I bought into the GOLD membership on LIVE. The only value I get out of it is some of the free games you get to download monthly. A couple were games I would have never bought on my own, but were somewhat fun discoveries and enjoyable. My son has bought a couple of games for it as well, and those were fun too. None of that is a review of the unit, except it kind of is. What that means is that we are spending money on content for it. We already have a Xbox 360, Playstation 2, 3 and 4, as well as Nintendo Wii. So plenty of justification to not buy it and equally not play it. But we are. Not exclusively mind you. But it gets play time and we are buying games. It is solidly built. You can't really review the software as that is a point in time view. In two weeks Microsoft might update the whole dashboard and whatever I said could be wrong later. If you are used to an older Xbox 360 dashboard / UI, then this will be a bit of a change up. But not terribly much. At this moment in time it is a fairly workable dashboard. But just like the Xbox 360, it is also Microsoft's own little advertising spam window. If you are not on a network you don't see the ads. But once you are, they fill in the edges of the screen trying to entice you to do something else than what you are actually trying to do. The one thing I would complain about about this unit: The power button. The white glowing logo on the front of the Xbox One is the power switch. LIke a smart phone screen, you just touch the flat surface and it turns on. Touch it again and it can turn off. There is no movement or flexing of it as you press. What drives me nuts with it is that I tend to brush up against it to reach for something else and it turns on. I wish there was better sensitivity to it. If you a buying one of these as: - a former owner owner of an Xbox360 - finding it cheaper than the latest version of it (Xbox One S) - getting a really great deal on it (where ever you are getting it) Then I would say 'go for it'. Like any other game system, it is fun if you have the right games. But the same can be said about a Playstation 4. However, if you are looking for a new gaming system and not specifically a deal, you should likely buy the S model, or wait for the next generation that is supposed to be 'coming soon'. the same can be said for the Playstation. They also have a new model with better display output (but not much more, sort of like the Xbox One S version), which you can pay a little more for than the older version. I am pondering over which system I should buy Mass Effect: Andromeda on. I am comfortable with both controllers, and operationally they work fine with few, if any, pain points. So it is a toss up. However I think the Xbox may be the direction I go. It just feels comfortable while playing games. ... show more
