Expensive but great quality

  • Great cutter for vinyl graphics
Use this in my vinyl shop to cut out vinyl graphics. Works great. Sharp blade. Definitely a time saver if you're doing a lot of repetitive cutting. The only downside to this one compared to one of our previous cutters is that this one does not have a spring loaded hinge. Our previous cutter's hinge had a spring that pulled the handle up when you let it go. Since this one doesn't have the spring, the blade will drop if you release it. This could be dangerous, but after getting used to it, it's no big deal. In fact, if you raise the blade all the way up, it has some resistance that seems to hold it in place. But overall, good quality for a cutter of this style. ... show more

  • Works like a charm
I bought this to cut sublimination paper to print socks. It's the exact size I need 24 x 24. We cut one page at a time. It took a little bit to see where the blade meets the paper. Once you figure that out it absolutely slices just right. It has CUT my time in half. And really simplified my cutting process. For a long time I was using a scissor then a 18 inch blade cutter. Happy those days are over. ... show more

  • I'm an artist, this quillotine has been perfect to cut my heavy watercolor paper!
It arrived in perfect condition and I was mostly concerned how the blade would cut my thick watercolor paper, it cuts great 1 to 2 sheets stacked ( 300 gsm /140 lb. ) but more than that and the paper gets frayed and doesnt cut cleanly, but I expected as much and dont need it to cut more than that at a time. it is very sharp, and high quality and I love that it has a safety latch too. If youre looking for a good guillotine, this is the one. ... show more

  • Works like a champ
They ship this cutter correctly with plenty of packaging! I'm a design professional and this is a good piece of kit. It's not lightweight, and that's how I like it. So I gave it five stars to let you know it's heavy duty. If you print large scale drawing and need to crop the sheets this is a great tool. ... show more

  • Terrible product with consistent failures
This product has been nothing but disappointing. I purchased the Exacto brand based on their reputation for quality cutting tools such as Exacto knives. This purchase was an emergency replacement for an identical product I had prior. Neither lasted more than three years. The bolts attaching the cutting arm constantly back out resulting in sloppy, in accurate cutting. In the middle of use I’d occasionally hear a bolt fall to the ground. While I could keep up with tightening them, the alignment (was) often off. In addition, the ruler markings often transfer or leave marks on light colored papers and fade to the point that some numbers are illegible after only a year. Today lined up three papers on the board, lifted the arm, and the whole arm came right off. The metal broke completely through. This is exactly what occurred with the previous Exacto paper cutter. The first time it happened I assumed it was a fluke. Clearly the constant strain of the screws backing out combined with a cheap metal brace are consistent issues. Do better, Exacto. Until then, buy elsewhere consumers. Not for nothing- I had a different brand prior to this that I kept for almost twenty years- only needed sharpening every so often. ... show more

  • Heavy Duty!
Very solid. This trimmer is very heavy which is what we were looking for. The guillotine is very sharp and have had no issues cutting anything we need to cut/trim.

  • Meh
The media could not be loaded. I was thrilled to see that X-acto makes this tool, and in such a large size. I read a lot of reviews and the complaints I saw seemed like minor enough issues that I thought it was worth a try. Man, I wanted to love it. I included a video to illustrate why I'm not only NOT impressed, but actively disappointed: 1) The guide to keep the paper flush against the ruler to cut a 90 degree corner wasn't attached with the level of accuracy I would expect from a paper cutter made specifically for large formats. I need both hands to align each sheet for a perfect square, and can't "lean" the sheet against the backstop to save time on measuring. 2) As previously mentioned by other reviewers, the lever arm doesn't hold itself up, and is a risk not only to ill-placed fingers, but when the guide isn't attached properly and YOU NEED BOTH HANDS TO ALIGN THE PAPER, you can't use your non-existent third hand to hold the lever arm open while getting your page just so. And so, the risk of ruining the project, or an even higher valued appendage, well, WTF X-acto? It is possible to tighten the bolt(s) at the elbow of the arm with a wrench, but the adjustment doesn't hold. Not in love with needing to "tend" to this thing on a regular basis right out of the box. 3) I got this thing 7 months ago, and today the arm's blade sliced through a teeny bit of the under blade, because the blade stuck mide-slice and I finished the cut with too much force. I use the cutter maybe 4 times a month on less than 20 sheets at a time (and cut thick pages individually), so I don't think it sees much use and is still very sharp. I was able to remove the metal shard and flatten the lower blade back out with a chisel that I had on hand, but it was the thing that made me leave this review. I came close to throwing the cutter out because it wasn't closing all the way, just to the spot where the upper blade would catch on the imperfection on the lower blade. I think I've got it back to cutting a straight line, but now I'm not sure how soon I'm going to find myself replacing this thing. All in all, this cutter saves me time, but not as much as it could if it was checked better for accuracy. And I already feel like I need to plan for a replacement. The size is great, it weighs enough to suggest I should get years of use from it, but I expected more in the way of accuracy and day to day functionality of use. I still love other X-acto products, I just wish this one had been more reliable. ... show more
