Reliable little machine with more features than I expected at this price point. I’ve used a few budget-friendly tattoo pens over the years and Wormhole usually does a pretty decent job balancing performance without getting ridiculously expensive, and this one honestly feels like a step up from some of their older models. The adjustable stroke settings are super useful if you switch between lining and shading a lot, and the display is actually easy to read while working instead of feeling like some gimmicky add-on. I also liked the weight distribution, it has a little heft to it without feeling awkward in the hand. The jump-start and dot modes are nice bonuses too, especially for anyone still experimenting with different techniques on practice skin. I do still prefer though to have the option to run wired as well as wireless because long sessions can make battery management annoying if you only have one pack charged and ready. It’s a bit heavier than some slimmer pens, so people who prefer ultra-light machines may not love it. Still, for a machine in this price range, it feels solid, steady, and surprisingly versatile. Definitely feels more “serious” than beginner junk while still being affordable enough that you don’t panic buying it.

I am back with another look at a Wormhole machine, this time picking up their matte black model to round out my current testing lineup. I am still putting hours in on fake skin, but having cycled through everything from bargain-bin pens to a mid-range Mast Fold 2 Pro, I wanted to see how this standalone hardware configuration stacked up over time. Mechanically, it is identical to the silver unit I looked at previously, and it holds its own just as well. The stroke and needle hang adjustments have that same satisfying, clicky resistance that feels secure while working. It gives me a slightly wider stroke range on both ends compared to my usual setups, which is great for flexibility. The digital display remains a high point, showing both Hz and voltage alongside a dedicated dot mode that I am still eager to master. The main differentiator here, aside from the clean black aesthetic, is the packaging. This version ships strictly as a machine-only option and does not include a second battery. Operating with a single power pack means you have to be mindful of your charging routine between practice sessions since there is no hot-swappable backup waiting on the sideline. Even without the extra battery or the premium stand from the full kit, the hardware itself is excellent. It is a heavy, solid machine with a thick grip that fits my preferences perfectly. Adding this version to my toolkit confirms that the core machine is a highly capable alternative to the Fold 2 Pro for anyone wanting solid performance without the extra filler.

This tattoo gun is SO inexpensive for how nice it is! I seriously can’t figure out why some of these adjustable stroke pens are priced so low. Wormhole has always made nice quality machines that hold up well and don’t feel too janky or cheap. It feels sturdy and durable, but isn’t too heavy. If you struggle with carpal tunnel, arthritis, or hand-fatigue but like a chunkier pen, this would be a great option. The strokes are really easy to turn to adjust, and the display is so vivid and bright! Easy to read, too. It’s compatible with all of my brands of cartridge needles. I’m using up some of my Dragonhawk Yue needles and they’re perfect in it. This machine works great on practice skin as well, and can be used for line work, shading and color packing. Highly recommend this for beginners or pros!
