My wife is always fiddling in the garden somewhere, and as a result, we have many basic garden tools. Most hold up well under her use, but some are replaced often. Garden trowels with wood handles and shears are the top two. The biggest issue with shears is that they rust far too easily, and the locking mechanism usually fails, such that it can't be repaired. So I thought I'd try these as our newest replacement, and I am very hopeful about them. Right out of the box, they feel better-made, sharper, and more reliable than past shears we've had. The pivot point feels bullet-proof with a locking mechanism that won't come loose at the first sign of use. The comfortable grips cover the solid metal handles, which give you excellent leverage, and the very sharp cutting blade and tight-fitting hook will ensure nice, clean cuts without much effort. The internal spring, all-metal parts, and solid construction should make this pair of shears last us a good long while. We just need to do our part to keep them clean and properly stored.

My old pruning shears have been on their last leg for a while, so I finally decided it was time for an upgrade. These have me wondering why I waited so long, because I’d forgotten how nice it was to have a pair that works this well. The blades are nice and sharp right out of the box. They cut through stems and branches without having to saw back and forth or apply a lot of force, which I’m pretty sure is saving not only my hands, but also my sanity. The spring-loaded action is smooth and convenient, which also goes a long way in preventing hand fatigue. The grip is comfortable, and it’s textured enough to feel secure even if you’re working without gloves. As someone with tiny hands, I still find them surprisingly comfortable and easy to use. They’re 8.5 inches, and in my opinion they hit the perfect middle ground in terms of size. They’re versatile enough for detailed work on flowers, but sturdy enough to handle thicker branches. The listing says they’ll cut branches up to 3/4in thick, but they don’t do too bad handling slightly larger than that. It definitely takes more effort, but they did a pretty decent job cutting anything up to around an inch thick. The safety lock is reliable, easy to engage, and doesn’t randomly engage itself when you’re in the middle of using them. Yes, I have had that happen more times than I can count. In fact, that’s ultimately how I broke the safety lock on my last pair. It’s been so long that I’d forgotten how nice it is to have that feature. Overall, at the current price these are an excellent value. If your current shears have seen better days, these are definitely a worthy upgrade.

I ordered the WORKPRO 8.5" Bypass Pruning Shears, Professional Garden Shears with Forged Steel Blades, 3/4". I can always use more pruners, so I was excited to use these right now in spring. The first thing I notice when they arrived was they do actually look and feel like good quality pruners, and they are heavier than some of my other cheaper ones. They are just the pruners and don't come with anything to keep them in. I have very small hands similar to child sized, and they feel okay in my hand, but they are a bit heavier than some other ones I use. I've trimmed a variety of plants including rose bushes, blackberry bushes, and other random shrubs and sticks. They advertise that they can cut 3/4". I was able to cut through some bigger sized brush with this, but it did take some effort. Normally, I would use other yard tools for the larger ones, but I wanted to see what this was capable of which this can do what it says it can. This is still a newer review, so I can't speak about longevity until longevity has been reached. I do enjoy them and think they are good quality. Because of my extra small hands, I think I still would prefer smaller and more lightweight pruners, but that's personal preference as I feel I can be quicker with them, but I still think these are good quality and can handle more than my cheaper ones, thank you.
