  • Very nice rest. Fits my mini-lathe perfectly.
Size: 10" swing over bed
I was reluctant to buy a relatively inexpensive version of this, but, once it arrived, I was very happy and quite thrilled with the product. I've used it once. It adjusts in so many ways, and that's really good news. It fits the Rockler mini-lathe which is also the same lathe sold under different names at Harbor Freight and many other outlets. ... show more

  • Performed as expected
Size: 10" swing over bed
It was easy to setup on my lathe. I used to hold some candle sticks I was making. No vibration when I was running with the steady rest.

  • This is an excellent unit for the size lathe it is intended for
Size: 10" swing over bed
This is my third steady rest, but the first for my "Mini" lathe, an old Jet from when they were still made in Taiwan. Even though I have a full sized lathe, there have still been times I wished for a steady rest for the Jet, even with the standard length bed--turning small diameter, but long hollow vases, for example. I've considered making my own--which I did for my large lathe--but having that experience proved to me that, if you are a perfectionist, self-constructed can be every bit as expensive as the typical commercial steady rest--maybe even more so if your time is taken in to account. My other steady rest is a semi-custom made behemoth, which is arguably the finest steady rest ever made available to others. Just to ship it would be several times the cost of the unit that is the focus of this review. This steady rest uses the same time proven design that many woodturners would choose for themselves if they had the fabrication equipment to duplicate it. It's a simple design, but the materials are well matched to its purpose. No, it's not going to stand up to an out of round, yard long, 100 pound log, but that's not what its sized or intended for. On a mini lathe, it should be indestructible. Mounting to your lathe bed is as simple as anything else you mount to your lathe bed--I did it in literally two minutes; removal is just as easy. Adjustment is intuitive. I'd recommend some purple "Loctite" or its equivalent, just to ensure the adjustments don't loosen from vibration. Personally, I find the adjustment knobs and levers to be adequately sturdy for their intended use. That's not to say you might not break one, I've broken several on woodworking tools, always a result of my own negligence, and all easily and cheaply replaced. Frankly, I doubt most of you will ever have the experience. So, a good design, reasonably well manufactured from quality materials, easily mounted and adjusted, and at a most reasonable price. If you ever wished to have had a steady rest for a smaller lather, I think you'll find this one to fit the bill for an affordable price. ... show more

  • Steady rest with heavy gauge steel ring, quality wheels
Size: 10" swing over bed
This steady rest is well made from the outer ring to the wheels. Easily adjustable. Very happy with the quality and how well made it is. Only possible Con could be.if you turned a small spindle, you’ll reach a point where wheels won’t will not be an able to hold the turning any more.

  • Completely miss leading product pictures...
Size: 10" swing over bed
Even though my lathe has a 12-1/2" swing over and this says 10", their pictures show it on the exact delta lathe I have, exact same model. I even included the picture they have in the listings in case they change it. And since they are to LAZY to write a proper product description with exact models it fits, I am sure I won't be the only one that will make the mistake of wasting time ordering this. As for the unit itself, it is very heavy duty, almost all of it. Almost all of it is made with heavy duty metal and the wheels seems to be higher quality and robust. Pretty simple to mount, like anything you put on the bed. Adjustment is simple as well. Only thing I don't like about the construction is the ratchet type levers are thinner, lighter plastic and I am concern if they will last or take much tightening. I believe I can still make it work by making a 2-1/2" riser block, so it might not be a total loss. Guess I am just tired of companies that can't be bothered to give correct details about their products, or enough details. Is it just me? ... show more

  • had a problem but the seller is very responsive
Size: 10" swing over bed
update 2: the seller has been very responsive and we worked together to discover the problem is with the product labels in the warehouse. the bar codes are faded and amazon is fetching the wrong part. they are going to recall and reprint and send the correct part once available. I am looking forward to trying the correct 10" steady rest in the near future! original review: This steadyrest is described as fitting 10" lathes but does not fit my Atlas 10F. The Atlas is 5" from bed to center of spindle. This steady rest is only 4" from the base to the center of the support wheels. update 1: bought a second one.. same results. and this one is missing the hold down clamp. part number 844z sent. ... show more
