  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Got a deal on warehouse, can't complain.
Size: 5"
I didn't really need this vice but the price was excellent. I ordered it fully expecting it to be beat up or abused but other that one small issue with the measuring tape (not sure I would ever have used that anyway) it looks great and works fine. I have another vise but never had one before with rotating jaws. I think it's pretty handy and my only wish is that they had a way to lock the rotation separately from locking the jaws. I'm sure that they likely have those but this one fit my budget and I'm happy with it so far. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Nice heavy vise for everyday use
Size: 5"
I had been looking for a good vise that would allow me to not only swivel the base, but rotate the jaws. For the most part all I found were vises that were way more than I wanted to pay, or were simply too small for what I needed them for. I happened upon the Shop Fox vise strictly by accident after I found the 4 inch one. Doing some more research I found the 5 inch one for about $12 more, but with no reviews. The 4 inch one had plenty of positive reviews, so I took a chance and went with the 5 inch one. The first time I ordered it UPS somehow managed to lose it in transit, but Amazon was super good in getting another one right out to me, with Saturday delivery included! While the box was a bit beat up, which is to be expected for something like this, the vise itself was in perfect shape. It is bigger than I was expecting, but not to the point of being too big. It had a decent amount of grease on it, but I'd rather have that than a rust problem, so it took some cleaning. It mounted easily to my shop bench and easily meets my expectations and desires for it. One thing you will have to get used to is how to keep the jaws from rotating. They will continue to rotate until you lock them down, and then they will lock in place. I think most people are used to being able to lock it before you clamp something in, but that is not the case with this. That may be annoying for some, but once you figure out that's how it works it shouldn't be an issue. I know for me it's not a big deal, so it's nothing to detract from the overall performance of the vise. To date I am quite happy with it, and am super happy Amazon went the extra distance to ensure I got what I ordered in a timely manner. No knocks to UPS though as there was some bad weather around that time, so this is no negative review at all of UPS. For those who want a good vise for most every day uses, I think you will find this will fit the bill. Just make sure you clamp it securely on a secure bench as this thing is not light. Great vise and a great Amazon price! ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars Initially skeptical of the rotating jaws, but a very solid vise
Size: 5"
I finally got around to building a decent workbench for my garage and needed a vise with a revolving head to complement it. After reading about several Yost and Wilton models, I noticed by accident, this listing for the Shop Fox 5 inch revolving head vise. After checking the manufacturer's website (Woodstock International) and doing a bit of reading, I discovered that this vise weighs 44 lbs (about 21 kg) and is mainly made from 50,000 PSI ductile iron. It can clamp with about 7500 PSI of pressure and has a steel handle, shaft and clamp jaws. The pipe jaws are not replaceable but the V jaws and machinist jaws are. There is also an anvil area and a stamped on scale (that is correct) to show the amount of rotation (in degrees). This Shop Fox 5 inch vise also comes with a light grease over all the rotating parts, so rust is not a worry. With most revolving vises, you adjust the rotation of the vise jaws first and then tighten it down before clamping an object. With this Shop Fox model, you rotate the jaws to the orientation you want and then tighten. By tightening the jaws, you also lock in the rotational orientation of the head. At first, I was worried that this method would not work well in practice with heavy items, but so far, it has worked excellent (and is faster than the old style). When it came to mounting, I sank 3/8 thick steel through bolts into my 2.25 inch thick maple workbench and so far, I have not had any problems. The largest object I have clamped into the vise weighed about 180 pounds and it held it rock steady, and at an angle. I do not do much heavy duty machining but for my hobbies, including bike and auto repair, woodworking and light metal work, this vise works awesome. My initial impressions are good and I will update this review every six months or so, but for now, it is five stars! ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Just OK...
Size: 5"
Just OK....I bought this vice as an open boxed special. The vice came in a unpadded box that was 2 sizes too large for the vice (read "it just flopped around the box". While it is sturdy in nature it is basically a poorly put together vice with printed metal strips to indicate the measurements on the throw and the rotation bezel. I am sure it can hold a piece securely I was not very impressed with the overall quality of the vice. The kicker is for what it is and the "quality" I want, I would have needed to spend at least $100 more to get it. From that standpoint, I will keep the vise. I really don't like the need to have the jaws loose in order to rotate the head. To me it kind of defeats the purpose of a rotating head on a vice (you want the piece to rotate as you need to do details/finishing/etc.) on a 360 degree basis. ... show more

  • 5.0 out of 5 stars No shop is complete without a quality vise and you have found one here.
Size: 5"
5 inch jaws that rotate a full 360 to bring pipe jaws into the working area. Mounts with (4) 1/2 inch fasteners (wood screws in my case) and if your bench is study this will death grip anything you need it to and it can withstand the torque applied to it, even with force multiplication of levers (cheater bars) on tools to remove those stubborn rusted items. I’ve had zero regrets with this purchase. ... show more

  • 3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Vice but.....
Size: 5"
So let me start off by saying I got this Vice used. I was thinking about getting the other blue multi-purpose vise but this one came out a little bit cheaper. This is obviously a no-name China Vice. The immediate issue I saw was at the Vise handle was bent and one of the screws for the Vise Jaw was missing and all the screws needed to be tightened in the Vise Jaw. ( update M6 sized hex nut of a similar length fits very nicely and is flush with the jaw I would probably upgrade all four here ). My options were either this or Harbor Freight Tools the hft Vice got some pretty negative reviews and so I was hoping for better on this one. Time will tell... ... show more
