Awesome little stove and burner. Assembly is intuitive; moves easily when you pick it up by diagonal corners on the bottom (doesn’t fall apart). Light weight and sturdy materials; packs small and flat. Size allows fast and efficient use of kindling to cook with. People complaining about complex assembly, grabbing one piece to move it, uneven ground, or soot from cooking with wood lack basic common sense and/or experience outdoors! Unless this is you, it will be perfect! If you are nervous, practice all the above BEFORE you try to light it. EZ-PZ setup on flat ground out of any wind; feed kindling through the open side, and light ‘er up!

I acquired this wood burning lightweight portable stove by Hexotools with the intention to take this with me on a future backpacking trip as a backup source for heat to boil water or cook food. What I liked about this portable stove: - easy to assemble once you understand how it comes together; I'm mechanically inclined, so despite no instructions being provided, I was able to figure it out and assemble the stove in under 3 minutes. - stainless steel sheet metal is used in its construction that, when pieced together, can support an impressive amount of weight. I used my 12 inch cast iron pan as a test, and the stove held thet weight up with no issues. - plenty of breathing holes to allow for good air circulation to build and maintain a small fire inside with kindling wood chips, and small chunks for heat source. - comes with a carrying case. What could be improved about this portable stove: - instructions should be included inside the package. One cannot expect to go online to get the instructions, especially if this stove is given to someone as a gift or if someone obtained this and immediately heads out for a trip but lacks cell coverage to find information about how to put the stove together. A small piece of paper with a diagram of how the pieces comes together would help immensely. - being portable and lightweight meant sacrifices had to be made, and the amount of fuel that one can put inside the stove is not a whole lot. In order to make it useful to boil water, one may need to consistently feed kindling wood or other small chunks of flammable fuel into its cavity to keep the heat going long enough to boil water. Final thoughts: I found that the way this stove comes together from pieces of sheet metal is quite creative. Also, picking up the stove by the "rear" sheet metal (the one opposite of the large sheet metal with a square cut in it) would allow the person to pick up the stove in its entirety without it falling apart on you. It's impressive just how much weight this tiny stove can hold due to its stainless steel construction. Functionally it will perform as designed, but the need to continuously feed it fuel to keep the heat going is a must due to its small volume where the fuel would burn. I feel that this would be a good supplement to anyone's backpacking gear in the event their own portable butane stove runs out of fuel. Or this could be used for lengthy backpacking trips where refilling on supplies, including fuel for a gas stove, is not feasible or convenient.

I've had a few of these types of camp stoves. They were all garbage. This thing is a small beast. Made out of stainless and more than strong enough to use a cast iron skillet on. Very well designed. It also weighs about the same as a green propane tank and hiking stove except you arent using expensive fuel to cook. I'd give it 6 stars if I could! I bought this because I refuse to pay the current price for propane or butane. Problem solved 100%

This stove is small, compact, and super portable, making it great for backcountry camping. It's even good for short day hikes where you'll be stopping somewhere for a few hours, since it's lightweight, starts up easily, and cools down quickly. There were issues with warping, however, which is important to consider. We tried it in our backyard first as a test and the setup was a bit annoying since there are no instructions anywhere. We had to figure out which part goes where on our own. Once that was figured out it was easy enough, but I really wish there were engraved numbers on each section so you could tell at a glance which part goes next, since there's no easy visual indicator. I ended up just stacking the pieces in the order they go together when I put it away, which helps a lot. It's a bit flimsy if you try to move it while assembled, but otherwise it stands up strong and can't easily be knocked over on a level surface. The holes allow a ton of airflow so the wood burns super hot and quickly. Sitting a couple feet away the heat is decent, but it's not like a typical campfire that keeps you warm on a cold day. You do feel the heat if you're close enough though. I like that it uses small bits of wood which are much easier to gather than the large chunks a typical fire requires. It's also better for the forest since larger log pieces provide food and shelter for many different critters, from insects to birds to chipmunks. The smaller pieces aren't as important for forest biodiversity, so it's a nice bonus from an environmental perspective. The fire is easy to start and easy to feed wood into as needed. You do have to tend to it fairly often since it's smaller and goes out quicker than a regular campfire. It concentrates all the heat in one small area though, so food cooks faster which is a nice advantage. It doesn't really allow for coals to form since the ash falls out the bottom and even larger pieces turn to ash quickly. This makes it better for cooking on a skillet or in a pot rather than on a stick, since you're cooking with a flame here rather than coals. It cools off very quickly once the fire goes out, so you can pack it away fast. I thought about pouring water over it to cool it instantly but was worried about warping the metal, and there was no need to anyway with how fast it cooled naturally. Unfortunately the metal warped anyway despite letting it cool naturally, which made some of the pieces very difficult to slide out from each other. My hands got very sooty trying to take it apart and I almost gave up on the last two pieces because my hand was hurting from the metal digging into my hand as I used as much strength as I could to separate the pieces. Putting it back together is now harder because of the warping, which was a frustrating surprise. The price is good for what you get, but the warping issue is something to consider seriously before buying. It's a good starter camping stove for those on a budget, but be prepared for some potential hassle.

This little stainless steel rocket stove is useful... but, it has a stability issue. First of all, let me list some points that I noticed in my review process: 1) The pieces are solid. Stainless steel. Enough said. 2) All the pieces except the chimney are flat and stack and store real easy in the included bag. It's a small footprint in a back pack. 3) It's not heavy. It's not as light as aluminum, but obviously way more solid. 3) Once you have a picture in your head of how this looks when put together, it's easy to put together. But, I had to go back to the amazon product listing to see what I was building because there is NOTHING included with the product that gives any indication of how to put this together. No, it's not difficult to do, but it is frustrating if it's your first time. Well, even if it's your tenth time this still may be frustrating because it is a bit fiddly. Also, I wonder how easy this would be to do if you were freezing to death in the deep woods somewhere and you were shaking and starting to lose muscle control of your hands. Not a pretty thought. 4) Stability. Ok this is where my concern is. Check out my uploaded video to see exactly what I mean. If you squeeze two sides together as you move it, everything seems to stay put. But, if you grab a single side, the wrong side, the whole thing comes apart and topples like a house of cards. Should you move it when it's burning, No of course not. But if there's a need to, and you do, you can't squeeze both sides because it's puts your hand over the flames. Grabbing one side with a fire in it could result in you spilling your fire and that would not be a good thing. Is it likely to happen that you'll move a lit stove? Probably not, but I can see someone wanting to adjust it or maybe shake it to release some ash, and with some heat protection in use, grabbing a side and spilling the stove, and fire, all over the place. The heat output is decent. you can obviously only build a certain size fire limited to the box it burns in but you will need to burn small pieces which means keeping it loaded because small stuff burns quick. I recommend small split oak pieces once you have some coals to keep it hot. At least that will last longer than simply burning dried twigs. Overall, I'll take it camping with me but I will be careful with where I use it and how I handle it. I feel ok with giving it 4 stars, but it isn't a 5 star item.

I have used this rocket stove on camping trips where I did not want to carry a full cooking setup and it performs well for its size. The portability is excellent since it folds flat and takes up very little space in my pack which makes it easy to bring along on kayak and backpacking trips. The setup is simple and fast with no tools required and it locks together in a stable way once assembled. The efficiency is noticeable because it burns small sticks and twigs well and helps maintain a steady heat for cooking when you do not have a lot of fuel available. The durability of the stainless steel feels solid enough for repeated outdoor use and it has held up without warping so far. The stability is decent when placed on level ground and it supports small pots and pans without issue. The value for money is fair considering the compact size and usefulness in survival type situations.
