  • Incomplete kit
Nothing more frustrating than receiving an assemble it yourself product, than to find it is missing parts. In this case a very small set screw. Not looking forward to trying to find this very small set screw at the local hardware store, not mention the unnecessary trip.

  • A good core to build your multi band antenna
This is a good antenna, not a great antenna. It does not have a ground plain, a mounting bracket, or cable. This antenna is a project antenna and not complete. It is a very solid and good performing antenna. You just have to make a ground plain, a magnet mount, or a mounting bracket. You will also have to get quality coaxial cable like RG-8, RG-8m, RG-8x, or something equivalent or better. Build your antenna system with this as the core. You will not regret it. It is a great start. A lot of people complain of a high standing wave. Though, this was not my situation, the standing wave ratio was a bit high for my liking. That being said, all antennas are made in a way that they are not perfect for your application. You must tune every antenna you ever get. I tuned the individual segments to get the standing wave ratio below 1.5 on all bands. If you do not know how to tune an antenna, perhaps you should pay to have someone install an antenna for you. This antenna is a good core to start with. You will have to tune it, add a ground plane, get a bracket or mount, and add coaxial cable. If you do not want to pay someone to tune your antenna and you do not know how to do so, carefully take your transceiver and clean all dust and fingerprints off it. Disconnect the power supply, microphone, and meters attached to the transceiver. Look for the original packaging and box and very carefully place the transceiver, microphone, cords, and manual back in the box. Wrap the transceiver in the plastic it came in as well. Using clear tape, close the box to seal it. Look for the original receipt and return to place of purchase. Then exchange the transceiver for a walkie talkie with an antenna already on it. As a bonus, repackage the antenna, coaxial cable, and power supply in their original boxes and return them to the original vendor. You will have lots of money left over and still have a perfectly good walkie talkie for your needs. ... show more

  • Not an antenna for driving you put it up when you're stopped, Or moving slow
Not an antenna for driving!! you put it up when you're stopped, Or moving slow!! I get the best SWR match on all channels with this antenna and then a matter of fact the needle doesn't even move when checking SWR. People who are writing these reviews are Not using this antenna as it should be used, But then complain about how the antenna performs, if it is used in the way it's intended there's no problems with it. And for some of the other reviews, Please don't follow their examples, one Review actually put it on upside down and complained it didn't work right? Use this antenna as intended and it's an awesome antenna ... show more

  • Did not assemble easily.
It appears to be a good antenna and comes packaged in 4 pieces that should have been easily assembled. The next to the top antenna part was too big in diameter and required filing off for the threaded attaching nut to connect and tighten. I will avoid this brand in the future.

  • It was missing screws and no reply from the seller.
Seems ok overall and a decent price. It was shipped in sections and mine was missing a set screw to keep the pieces together. Seller never replied to my email but Amazon gave me a $10 credit to buy assorted screws and I found one to fix it. It’s functional now and looking forward to making some contacts. ... show more

  • Get a Diamond or Comet quad band.
Please do yourself a favor and save up a few more dollars and get a name brand antenna. Received this antenna, mounted it on the side of my vehicle with a good ground on a solid mount and am very disappointed. When I first pulled it out of the package, I thought to myself, "This doesn't look that bad!". Boy was I wrong. Making 15-20 minute drives across town anywhere from 55-75mph this thing flops down at its "folding feature" 2-3 times requiring me to pull over and stand it back up. I eventually wrapped the joint with Scotch Super 88 diagonally back and forth like tendons to hold it in place. Upon hooking it up and testing it, the SWR is through the roof on 6m and 2m. The needles on my meter wouldn't even cross at an SWR reading as they were standing almost straight up. On 10m the SWR was 1.5:1 and on 70cm it was reading about 1.2:1. In trying to adjust it, it appears that the lowest element would need to significantly longer as the SWR is higher at the lower frequencies. I extended it as much as I could and still be able to tighten the screws down. The bottom coil was only holding on with one screw while doing this. Something else I noticed that may be by design (doubtful) was that when I put my ohm meter from the center pin of the connector to the bottom element, there is no connectivity. It appears as an open load. When I place my meter across the shield (side of the base coil), and the bottom element, it is a dead short. This could be due to the way the matching network in the base is set up with loads and capacitors, but I don't recall any of my antennas being open from center pin to element. I have some that appear shorted to ground (not RF shorted though) but all of them still have conductivity from center pin to driven element. I will be sending this antenna back ASAP. ... show more

  • Decent antenna, several flaws
I get decent SWR from this antenna on all 4 bands. Make sure that you mount this as high as possible on your car and in the clear. I tried to side mount it and could not get an SWR below 4:1, moved to the roof and got better than 1.3:1 on 10m, 1.2:1 6m, 1.00:1 on 2m 1.2:1 on 70cm. The fold down feature is both a blessing and a curse, great for low clearance areas, just an easy lift and foldover, on the negative side however, when offroading, the bouncing around has on more than one ocassion caused the antenna to fold over on its own killing signal propagation update: today driving down the freeway, this antenna folded over on its own every 10-15 miles, this happened 3 times, and after the 3rd time, it happened almost immediately after resuming driving, item defintiely has some quality issues. I ended up duct taping the upper folding portion to the tube it sits in and it held a great deal better, but ended up folding over again. Unfortunately this is out of the exchange period and I guess I will have to come up with another solution. ... show more
