My ill senior cat was not eating as much as she should. She dropped weight quickly and we expected the worse. Vet prescribed an appetite stimulant ointment that had to be applied to inside of my fur babies delicate ears. The appetite stimulant helped with her appetite but would cause her ears to be inflamed, irritated, dry, chapped, peel and caused major discomfort. After a while the ears would look raw. It was sad. On one end I needed her to eat hence instructed not to stop the medication, but on the other I did not want to cause her this discomfort. Vet recommended baby aquaphor healing ointment. Aquaphor is a known reputable brand so I did not hesitate yet still looked it up first. I mean this was my baby we were talking about. Perhaps not human but my baby nonetheless. I immediatly appreciated that it confirmed to not have any fragrances, dyes, or preservatives. With that peace of mind we started alternating ears. When one ear didn't have the med we would gently wipe with warm water, pat dry than apply the baby aquaphor. The next day we would do the other ear with aquaphor and so forth. This was a game changer. Slowly but surely her ear skin improved. Less redness, less dryness, less peeling. Eventually there was no more rawness. No more discomfort. I didn't feel as guilty putting on the medication. Found baby aquaphor also worked great for her senior, dry, cracked paws as well. The aquaphor applied on smooth and absorbed nicely without leaving any major greasiness. Cat beds nor my bed were left smeared with this, which I definitely appreciated. Because I was only using it for ears and paws this tube lasted quite a while. I felt tube hard to squeeze at times and felt a jar would have been better but I made due with the tube. If you have a broader need I would suggest the jar instead. In my opinion the baby aquaphor was worth the price because it helped my fur baby. We were able to continue the appetite stimulant and thanks to this we got another year with her.

Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment has become one of those products that is incredibly useful to have around with a baby because it can be used for so many different everyday skin issues. I originally thought of Aquaphor mainly as a diaper-area product, but I’ve found myself reaching for it whenever skin looks particularly dry, chapped, or irritated. The consistency is thick and creates a noticeable protective barrier, which is exactly what I want from this type of ointment. A small amount spreads surprisingly far, so even though the 14 oz container is fairly large, you don't need to use a huge amount with each application. I especially appreciate having the larger size at home rather than constantly replacing smaller tubes. Another big positive for me is that it is fragrance free. Baby skin can be sensitive, and I prefer products like this without unnecessary fragrance, particularly when I'm applying them to areas that are already irritated. It doesn't disappear immediately like a lightweight lotion, but that's really the point—the thicker texture stays on the skin and provides a protective layer. It’s also incredibly versatile. It can be used for dry or chapped areas, drool irritation, and as a skin protectant in the diaper area. That versatility means I don't feel like I need a completely different product for every minor skin concern. The only thing to keep in mind is that this is an ointment, so it is definitely thicker and greasier than a regular baby lotion. We’ve been using Aquaphor since our daughter was born, and it’s one of those products we simply never go without. We use it at every diaper change and keep this travel-size bottle stocked at home, in the diaper bag, and at daycare. I love this packaging because it’s portable without being too small. It holds enough product that I’m not constantly refilling or replacing it, but it’s still easy to throw into a diaper bag and take anywhere. One feature I especially appreciate is the small opening. This is truly a holy-grail product in our house for a long list of skin issues. If you are like me and have tried several times to switch to beeswax-based or more “natural” products for your children, only to end up with a nasty rash, this may be worth trying. Sometimes not everything has to be ultra-pure, hand-foraged, and blessed by the mushroom fairies. Sometimes you just need to use what actually works for your child’s comfort. To be clear, if natural products work well for your family, that is great. But after trying many creams, salves, and balms, this is the one product I have used that not only clears diaper rash incredibly fast, but also helps prevent it altogether when used consistently. What makes this better than plain petroleum products, in my opinion, is that it is not just petrolatum. Aquaphor also includes ingredients like panthenol, glycerin, and bisabolol. Panthenol helps support skin barrier repair and retain moisture, glycerin is a humectant that draws in moisture, and bisabolol is known for its soothing properties. That combination makes it feel more effective and more skin-supportive than a basic petroleum ointment. I also use it for dry, scaly patches that show up in baby rolls, and they are often dramatically improved by the next day. At one point I tried to save money by switching to a generic petroleum-based product, and I realized very quickly that it was not the same. This formula really is in a different league. After seeing how well it worked on chapped cheeks, I started using a small amount at night as the final step in my own skincare routine to lock everything in, and it has genuinely helped my tired 37-year-old skin. Yes, it is greasy, but that is the point. It is meant to be highly occlusive, which is exactly what you want when trying to seal moisture in and protect irritated skin from further dryness and exposure. Another bonus, it makes an excellent lip balm. It helps heal chapped lips quickly and keeps them looking hydrated. Overall, this is one of the most versatile products I keep on hand for both babies and adults. Diaper rash, dry patches, chapped cheeks, lips, and even slugging for grown-up skin, it does it all. I would not want to be without it.
