I did like the walkie talkies. We were able to use them on our cruise but it is not as long range as you would think. I bought them because we travel with younger children and they can use them to communicate with the adults in the event that they get lost, or they need help, or spent the night in a different room and wanted to come back to original room on cruise. They say long range but it really only work when we are less than 1 mile from each other. Any further than that then we could not communicate. On a large ship we need them to go at least 3 to 5 mile range but they did not work if we were more then a mile away from each other.

I love how there are 4 of these for a good price. Around 45 bucks. They do not include batteries so just be sure to have 12 AA batteries on hand. I hadn't used walkie talkies since I was a kid so I had to read the instructions a bit to get started. The whole privacy channels kinda confused me at first but I think I get it now. If you're in a densely populated area then those are necessary. You don't want someone listening in to you or your kids. I set it to a channel and kept it there. When I want to talk to one kid I change our channel and then change it back. Channel changing is difficult for the younger kiddo, you're better off doing it for them. These are great though. The VOX is nice for my 5-year-old so he doesn't have to mess with hitting the button. You can set the sensitivity of the VOX so it picks up on more sounds. I found that if he's wearing the lanyard and it rubs against his shirt then it will pick up that sound and just general talking. So beware of that setting. I looked into getting the rechargeable batteries on Amazon. It's not a bad deal if you're going to use them for more than just the walkies. Amazon has a really good price on their rechargeable batteries. The walkie talkies save battery life by putting them into power saving mode automatically. But turn off when not using them. The batteries life was great in my opinion but use good batteries of course. Distance: We did a test and they went about half a mile with houses in between. The kids can roam around the neighborhood and still talk to me. And that's what I needed them for. I think they are exactly what you'd expect. In summary, these walkie talkies are great. Perfect for kiddos of all ages. The colors are a nice touch so everyone has their own. They were able to give a friend one too.
