This ended up being a terrific upgrade for our 2012 Toyota Highlander Limited. We were gifted this car with only 34,000 miles on it...and its a Toyota, so it will run forever. But the JBL soundsystem and navigation OEM unit in this vehicle can't be upgraded or replaced. The bluetooth connection thru the factory stereo is ok, but you still have to heavily rely upon your cell phone for music, apps, Waze, etc. This Wireless Car Screen was very easy to install (I even pulled some of the ductwork to route the wires neatly, but not necessary for those who aren't that picky) and configuration was easy as well. You now get a large, bright screen with easy CarPlay/Android connectivity for Maps, Waze, and Music ...and didn't have to spend thousands at a stereo shop for a complicated install. Has been working great now for 4 months. Always connects automatically on startup. Didn't use the accessory backup camera, but may do that down the road to replace the OEM one. highly recommend this super easy and cost effective to your older car. Likely to buy another for a pre-Carplay vehicle as well.

I’m really impressed with this 9" Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto screen. I wanted an easy way to add modern features to my older car without replacing the factory stereo, and this turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. The setup was incredibly simple. I mounted the screen, plugged it into the power outlet, paired my phone, and within minutes I had wireless Apple CarPlay working. The instructions were straightforward, and I didn't need any special tools or professional installation. The backup camera was also easy to install and made parking much safer and more convenient. Well, the cable from the camera to the screen is way too short. About 4 feet too short for a 2010 ford edge to make it from the license plate to the dash if you’re trying to route it through the bottom moldings , or top moldings along the top of the doors. Even if you drop the headliner it’s too short. Also, the field of view in the camera is very, very narrow. Almost to the point of being useless if you’re going to use it as a backup camera. I’ve never seen as poor a backup camera as this. I ran through everything before trying to install. Connecting to CarPlay initially continuously failed if I tried to sync contacts. Once I didn’t try to sync, things connected correctly. Now on to the red power wire for the backup camera to turn on when connected to backlights. Again, WAY too short. You’d best have a spool of cable you can splice to extend it. Screen looks good. Could be a bit brighter in daylight, and a light sensor would have been great to automatically dim instead of the silly “dim at a certain time” feature you have to program. In looking at the camera my kit came with, it isn’t anywhere close to looking like the ones in the listing pictures. I don’t know what happened here, if the wrong one was shipped, if someone retuned what I received and swapped out the camera or if the seller did a “refresh” and changed things for the worse. CarPlay, once set up, connects quickly. In my opinion, what this kit does right is far overshadowed by all the shortcomings. Also, impossible to connect to car Bluetooth. I’m more than disappointed. I’m upset with this purchase.

The waviness in some of the photos is just the camera catching the refresh rate of the screen on the device (because the map screen is slightly repositioning). The image is crystal clear otherwise. Audio: While the audio quality is great, when you're using BT audio, the volume controls on the CarPlay Screen do not change the volume which is kind of a drag. But, I can still reach the volume knob of my stereo, so again not a huge deal. Since I am not using the cameras, I don't think I will ever add a memory card to it. Connectivity: You connect to this screen using bluetooth from your phone. This hands off the connection to your phone's wifi ... then you connect your phone's bluetooth to your car's stereo (or use one of the other audio options). So, the audio is coming from your phone to your stereo while this screen is acting as a remote interface. Visibility: If you wear polarized sunglasses while driving, beware that the screen is polarized as well, and you will not be able to see the screen through the sunglasses if looking directly at it. This isn't a flaw ... just a consequence of polarization. So, something to be aware of. As for screen brightness, I have it turned all the way down and find the screen good for day and night driving. Siri: Hey Siri! Not so fast. This screen does not have a Siri button or an apparent microphone (that can be used by your phone. So, you must either physically activate Siri on your phone first, or set it up to listen for the "Hey Siri" statement to activate hands free. This can be an issue if you keep your phone inside a closed console. This is minor to me, as I have literally never used Siri in the years and multiple iPhones I have owned. Also, most people leave their phone out (in a cup holder, tray, or passenger seat anyway. Responsiveness: The screen is responsive with very little lag (even when typing an address in), and the short boot up time is okay because you should be letting your car "warm" up briefly before driving anyway. My initial impression is that I am very happy with this device. It works well, and was available at a very reasonable price. I bought this product over others mainly because its measurements were a prefect match for the area I could cover on my console. I will update this review after several months.... The following is some details on my "old car tech update" project using this CarPlay screen for this interested or looking for some inspiration. I have an old 2008 vehicle with CD player and stereo only ... no bluetooth no satellite no CapPlay no navigation. I have been running an old iPod in the console through the AUX port for music for years. A year or so ago, I found my old iPhone 7 in a drawer and kept it thinking when I get a new car with bluetooth and CarPlay, I will use the iPhone 7 in the car (saving the battery of my actual phone) for music and navigation ... replacing the old school Garmin GPS I had mounted to a vent. Fast forward ... the car is running great, and I have zero plans to replace it any time soon. I came across this product, and figured it was time for an upgrade. The older phone does not have a SIM in it, so my plan was to connect it to my new phone's hotspot for nav data (more on that later). I have no plans to install the reverse camera, but if I do in the future I will update. But it works by tapping into the reverse light circuit to turn on the camera. Things from Amazon I used for this: * HAUXIY Wireless Apple Carplay Screen (this product) * UGREEN Aux to Bluetooth 6.0 Adapter (BT connection to AUX port in arm console) ... this failed after a month * 3M Dual Lock Reclosable Fasteners (to attach screen to bookend) * Lulonpon Bookend (trimmed on insert end to shorten for flusher mount) * Amazon Basics Straight Cut Aviation Tin Snips (for trimming bookend to size) * Gorilla tape (for covering cut portion of bookend for safety) So, I did not plan to use the forward facing camera on this screen. I only wanted it for CarPlay music and navigation. I do not like things mounted on top of the dash as this reduces field of view outside the car. So, I figured I could modify a bookend (Lulonpon bookend) I already had, and use as a mount ... sliding it into the CD slot (which I have never used anyway) covering the stereo face (which I only use on AUX for music from the iPod). So, losing those interfaces was not a problem. I trimmed the metal bookend with straight cutting tin snips, then capped the cut with Gorilla tape. The mount with the fasteners works very well. It doesn't look factory, of course, but it looks good ... better than having the Garmin GPS mounted on an air vent. Trimming the bookend wasn't strictly necessary, but it allowed me get the CarPlay screen more flush with the console rather than having a gap. The side-to-side fitment was perfect without alteration. I mentioned my plan with was connect the older iPhone 7 to my newer phone's hotspot for navigation data. What I didn't know, though, was that CarPlay uses the phone's WiFi radio ... I thought it used the Bluetooth radio. So, my assumption was that the iPhone 7 would be connected via Bluetooth to the HAUXIY CarPlay Screen, and the Screen would be connected via Bluetooth to my UGREEN AUX to BT adapter. But, you connect the phone to the Screen via Bluetooth initially, then it hands CarPlay off to the WiFi radio ... then your phone's bluetooth is needed to connect to your stereo's bluetooth (in this case the adapter I was using) if you're using BT audio on the Screen (there are other options). The current version of Apple Maps (what this Screen uses by default) allows you to download offline maps ... starting with iOS 16. My iPhone 7 is, of course, stuck at iOS 15.8.8. Google Maps does allow offline maps in older versions, and does work on this Screen as well. The only issue is there is a blended screen showing your map and your music on a single screen which is nice ... but the map is from Apple Maps ... and there's no way I can find to make it Google Maps. Not a huge issue as you can just have your music up and you can bring up Google Maps if you need the nav. The other option is to buy a data-only SIM for your phone (iPhone 7 does not support eSIM ... which are available online). So, once the SIM is in the phone, Apple Maps will work and pull nav data through that. Though, in my experience Google Maps is just better. I did end up getting a data only SIM for the old iPhone 7, and it works well. 1 GB, unexpiring, and I can top off as needed ... all for under $5. Now, of course, I could just connect my current phone (iPhone 14) and call it good. But, I liked having the iPod in the car for music and never having to worry about whether it's there or not, and having it just be "a part of the car." So, I wanted to maintain that.

PROS: Cheap, lets you have CarPlay in an older vehicle. CONS: Documentation is terrible. Won't mount in a lot of vehicles without drilling or blocking your car's windscreen. If you plug into a cigarette lighter that's not switched it stays on ALL THE TIME, even when the car is off. I bought this because my older F150 pickup truck didn't have any display other than a single line "Bluetooth Audio" display and I wanted to be able to use all the features on my fancy iPhone. It shipped and arrived in one day and included everything promised. That's where the joy ended. The manual gives 20+ pages on how to navigate the (already familiar) GUI - if you already know how to use your iPhone, you pretty much know how to navigate through the screens. It had absolutely NOTHING on recommended mounting positions, and after about half an hour of fumbling around in both my commuter car and my pickup truck I discovered that the only way you could even remotely start to mout this is either off the windshield, which blocks most of the view on a smaller car, or by drilling and mounting into your dashboard using the auxiliary mount and four of the tiniest screws I've ever seen. I believe that if you went this route the weight of the unit would pull them out almost instantly, leaving you with four larger holes in your dashboard. I ultimately used the suction cup mount on the truck and have it sitting on top of the dash, but that means that the view from the built-in camera is 50% of the mount itself. I also ran the power and signal wires down through my dashboard, and will admit that they're long enough to snake around, behind the glove box, and back out so at least there aren't wires running all around my dash. NOTE: IF YOU OWN A VW JETTA OR GOLF, DO NOT BUY THIS UNIT! The suction mount won't stick to the dash and window mounting it will get you pulled over and ticketed for blocking your windshield. It's pictured in the sales blurb as being able to swing the arm down far enough so it doesn't do this but you'd have to drill into your dashboard to mount it like they show it. My iPhone paired but I had to reboot both the touch screen and my iPhone a couple of times before it would play more than 2 seconds of Pandora, which is my primary music app. The sound quality is no where near as good as if I sent bluetooth audio straight to the factory stereo as I had in the past, but it's okay. Another problem is that the unit defaults to its internal speaker (which is both tinny and muddy) and you need to set that manually in the UI. It looks like it's defaulting back to its internal speaker every time you unplug it, so that's another thing you have to do before you can get rolling. Speaking of which, if you plug it in to a cigarette lighter with the included power supply (which the directions are pretty clear about having to use or else terrible things will happen) and it's not a switched power outlet (most aren't) it stays on and connected to your phone. It also means that if you leave it overnight it's still running off the battery all night. At some point I'll probably get frustrated enough that I'll run a switched lighter plug off the fuse box so I can keep using the supplies power supply without having to unplug it, but for now that's exactly what I have to do. Long and short of it is that it does what it promises, but not quite in the way that folks expect. I gave it two stars because of 1) the terrible installation instructions, 2) the limitations in mounting it in a way that won't get me killed or arrested, and 3) the internal system limitations (have to unplug it every time I park, have to re-set the output every time, and the poor quality of the audio). To be fair the screen is nice and clear, it's pretty responsive, and it lets me have a lot more functionality in my old pickup truck than I would otherwise. TL;DR: If you want CarPlay connectivity, don't have a ton of money or can't install an aftermarket stereo head, and are willing to constantly plug / unplug / configure the head unit, this is worth the small amount of money it costs. You get what you pay for, however.
