This past December has been quite chilly, with temperatures below freezing and winds. I wish I had installed these months earlier. I wish I had started installing these years ago! I've never installed kits like these so I'm afraid I can't compare these against other brands. But this particular kit works for us. We went with this kit because the other kits were pre-cut and too small for our windows. The tape adhered well to both the wall and the plastic sheet. The plastic is sufficiently thick for us, we haven't punctured it. It's thicker than a cheap resealable plastic bag but thinner than a name-brand resealable freezer-safe plastic bag, if that makes sense. I don't think it's cloudy. It's clear enough that we can see through the window normally, but it isn't invisible in the sense that you can tell there's a plastic sheet there when you're standing next to it. It does make a noticeable difference. I knew our windows were drafty, but I wasn't expecting these plastic sheets to billow up like bouncy castles even while we were installing them. Standing next to windows, I no longer feel a slight draft or coldness. It won't magically make your space five or ten degrees warmer, the difference for us has only been a degree or two. But it does reduce the cold air blowing into our house, the feeling of coldness, the subtle sound of wind blowing through tiny gaps. I feel like the temperature is slightly more stable and the air is definitely more still next to windows. If you want your house to feel warm, you're still going to have to use gas/electricity to heat up your space, so I don't think our bills will be significantly reduced. We need to continue running our boiler to heat up parts of the house that aren't well-insulated. But even with that, I would install these again. For what I can tell, these insulate in two ways. First, it blocks drafts that are blowing through the window. Second, it prevents the interior air from contacting any cold surfaces such as the cold metal/glass/wall around the window. Even if there isn't air blowing through these surfaces, interior air touching cold surfaces will lose their heat. So you want this plastic to cover cold surfaces without touching them in order to hold the interior air away from physically contacting the cold surface. This means covering not just the window itself, but the wall recess / window surround as well if it's also cold. We've never installed these before, and even we were able to manage it without any issues. After you install one, it only gets easier from there. Our windows are about 60" wide and 55" tall. I recommend having two pairs of hands for this. Maybe one person could do it by themselves (perhaps if the window isn't super wide), but I can't imagine how annoying that would be to have to climb down the chair on one side and get up the chair on the other side and making sure you have all your tools and supplies on you. It's just easier to be able to pass things back and forth with another person. 1) Wipe down the surface you're planning on sticking the double-sided tape to. 2) Apply the tape to the wall, all four sides, leaving the paper backing on. You don't want the tape to overlap, but you do want it to butt up against itself so there aren't gaps, so make sure you cut the tape ends squarely. The paper backing on the top side of the tape (the side that will stick to the plastic) is really brittle and it tears easily, so I found that it's easier to pre-peel off a bit off the end and folding it back before adhering the sticky bottom wall-side of the double-sided tape to the wall, than it is to remove the paper backing after the tape has been attached to the wall. 3) Measure out a measure of plastic sheeting. The plastic sheet is 87 inches tall but they've folded it down to a height of 11 inches and rolled it onto the roll. To measure out the width of the window, we stood the roll on the window sill (like an upright spool) and pulled the plastic sheet to the side to match the width of the window, adding 2-3 inches to either side. Then we cut it off the roll. (We installed it so the pleats run horizontally, meaning the 87 inch is the height of the sheet. Our windows are nowhere near that height, so there was a lot of excess plastic at the bottom that we cut off. If your window is narrower than 87 inches, you could probably conserve sheeting by cutting the sheeting in the perpendicular orientation so that the length of plastic sheeting coming off the roll matches the HEIGHT of your window rather than the width. The issue I can see with this is that you would have to unfold the entire sheet as you adhere it to the top edge, which might be a bit unwieldy, but manageable if you have two pairs of hands.) 4) Stick the top end of the plastic sheet to the top edge of the tape. If you cut the sheet off the roll so that the length matches the width of your window, you can leave the plastic sheet folded up so it's easier to handle. Make sure you adhere the correct exposed edge to the tape and not a fold. Because the sheet was so long for us, positioning the sheet didn't have to be super precise. We had the plastic sheet overextend above the top tape/window by several inches, just to make sure we had all the sticky tape covered. The paper backing of the tape is super brittle and tears really easily, so pull it very slowly and in the direction of the tape, not to the side. Stop as soon as you feel it tearing. 5) After sticking the top end (we did it from left to right), stick the sides. We had two pairs of hands, so we did it in sync from top to bottom, to help keep the plastic taut and prevent it from veering off to one side. Then we did the bottom, which was easy. Press the plastic into the tape again to make sure it's adhered nicely and trim the excess off. Since the plastic for us is taut enough and we don't need it completely invisible, we skipped the heat gun / hair dryer shrinking step. So I'm afraid I can't personally attest to how well it works. Just a heads up. One of the product images shows 4 rolls of tape that are each 32 feet, but I've found that it's more like 25.5 feet each. So the product description saying that this kit will work for three 7' x 9' windows IS accurate, but the image showing 4 rolls of 32 feet each isn't. So make your plan accordingly. I'm sure you could get additional double-sided tape from somewhere. Regarding the tape peeling off the wall during removal, we haven't tried that yet, so we can't review whether it peels paint off or leaves residue. The tape seems okay so far. We adhered the tape on the outermost painted metal part of the window frame just in case, but this means we aren't getting the full insulation benefit. I read that if you're worried about paint being pulled off, you can lay painter's tape on the wall before adhering this double-sided tape on top of it so that this double-sided tape isn't in direct contact with your paint. But I also read that painter's tape sometimes peels paint off anyway? Especially after it had been left on for months, so you may have to warm it up with a hair dryer before you remove it? But to be honest, paint peeling off isn't a huge concern/priority for us.

It actually showed up early ,and was just right to size as I had ordered. The double sided tape seemed to be very sticky so I automatically assumed it would hold up good. As I was using the hair dryer to shrink the plastic it was looking good ,no wrinkles. But I could hear it popping loose. I just stuck it back and it stuck so I figured I didn't press hard enough on it or I shrunk it too much. I did the whole house and it was looking good. By the next afternoon the curtain was the only thing holding the plastic to the window. I dont mean a corner came lose ,im saying it has let go of the window and curtain held it up.

The tape is IMPOSSIBLE to remove. It took of the paint on my trim. I’ve used everything to try and get the remaining adhesive off. DO NOT BUY unless you wanna send 5 hours of your life scraping it off and still not getting it all off. I’ve tried a bunch of adhesive removed, heat, scraping it. I even tried sanding it off. DONT DO IT
