Great enclosure
this is the second vantec product I've gotten and it has one defining feature: quality. The aluminum housing feels premium and for the price it should. After assembly it worked instantly and it's rubber feet transfer none of the vibrations to and from the drive inside it. no drivers need to be installed and assembly is quick and easy if you take your time and don't rush. Only drawbacks for it is that I paid more for the enclosure than I did for the drive. The cost definitely could have been a lot less since it's just a glorified sata to usb 3.0 adapter but I admit the aluminum is elegant and well made. The other drawback is that it uses usb 3.0 type b instead of a usb c connection. I imagine a future version of the drive will come with type c but it's at least better than 2.0 speeds like i've seen with other enclosures on amazon. Overall it's a great get if you have a computer that doesn't have an internal drive bay. It's an elegant piece of hardware that looks great on my desk and it's worked pretty flawlessly.

Easy Install and works great with no issues
Arrived in great condition. Removed the dvd R/W optical drive from my old Dell XPS desktop, followed the easy included instructions to put the drive in this enclosure, connect the SATA port on the drive to the cable in the enclosure, plug the supplied USB cable into the back of the enclosure and into a USB 3.0 port on the new desktop. New computer recognized it immediately and was able use it to read cds and dvds. Drive runs quiet and cool in the new enclosure.

Solid Build and Plug n Play
The NexStar DX2 (NST‑540S3‑BK) is a sturdy aluminum 5.25" optical drive enclosure that delivers exactly what it promises: reliable performance and effortless setup. It worked flawlessly with two LG M‑DISC DVD/CD‑RW drives and was instantly recognized by both Windows 11 and Linux with true plug‑and‑play behavior. While not shock‑resistant, its solid build makes it ideal for stationary archival use. I liked it enough to buy a second one.

A few cons but good overall
It works good. I paired it with an lg blu ray drive that I flashed with libredrive firmware over SATA 1 year ago. This drive often caused Windows Explorer to crash on my Windows 10 PCs. The file explorer will forever be indexing and not be usable until I restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Then it breaks the thumbnails until I restart my PC. This was not a problem when I used the the same drive over SATA. The enclosure is built well. It is aluminum with plastic bumpers. The package comes with a small screwdriver and many extra screws in case you lose some. The small drawback here is the standoff feet. They are 4 little rubber pieces that attach to the enclosure with adhesive. If you carry this thing in a backpack the legs will eventually fall off and get lost. A cheap shortcut solution for a $60 product in my opinion. The OWC Mercury Pro has feet that screw on for the same price. Overall, the cons are not deal breakers for me so I won't be returning it or anything but if I were to do it again I would buy the OWC Mercury Pro.

Well pleased.
Well pleased. The product arrived undamaged, on time (actually the day before I expected it), and was well packaged for shipment. Installation of Blu-Ray drive was straight forward and simple. The only problem was the package of screws to hold the drive in place was not included as advertised (manufacturer error not seller I'm sure). If someone didn't have a supply of screws like I do it might be a problem. I plugged everything in, turned it on, rebooted and... nothing happened. Finally I did a cold start, (completely powered down my desktop) restarted with the unit turned on, and now it works perfectly. I don't even have to reboot, just turn it on and my Linux OS picks it up immediately. I've used it with my laptop with the failed DVD drive (that's really why I got it), even plugged it into my television usb port and played Blu-Ray directly to my television. That eliminated the need for a Blu-Ray player purchase, thank you very much. I don't usually write reviews because my experience will probably not be yours , but I couldn't be happier with this product if I tried. Many thanks NexStar, and if the need arises I would buy again without a doubt.

Perfect solution to my dilemma
I have a pioneer BDR-S11JX blu-ray player. I’m going to use to rip my Blu-ray 4K discs to digital. After purchasing the Blu-ray player, I realized installing it in my tower desktop PC was going to require purchasing special rails and I would have to remove one of my 4TB hard drives that occupy that front space currently. I decided I didn’t wanna go that route and purchase enclosure, this pioneer Blu-ray player is longer than normal Blu-ray players and it fits in the enclosure perfectly so easy to set up. All the required hardware, including a little screwdriver came with it and the USB 3.0 cable. I ordered it this morning and it arrived this evening. Amazing!

Expensive, but well built and very worth the investment.
I work a lot with video and optical storage. It's hard to find a computer case that includes ODD bays and allows 280/360 AIO mounting. I've tried using an external DVD drive, but most are based on slow read & write laptop drives. This enclosure allows me to use an 5.25 internal 16X Blu-Ray/16X DVD writer I already had. The case is built of heavy aluminum with plastic end caps. Lots of internal room for even the longest drives. Installation is simple with all drive & mounting holes lining up. Win10 & 11 both recognize the drive links to standard drivers. Heavy case means even at high drive speeds the noise is low. Advertised SATA III & USB 3.0 interface speeds are more for show than real world. Real speeds will depend on your ODD drive's R/W speeds. My fast 16X BRD has a theoretical transfer rate of 60-65 MB/s (0.5 Gb/s), but on either a USB 3.0 or 2.0 port, I get 10-12 MB/s read of a SL DVD disc - the same as if hooked to an internal SATA port. Having it's own power brick means any USB port 2.0 or higher will work the same. It also means the supplied 100mm cable can be replaced without a problem - I'm using a 2 meter cable now to place ODD under my monitor and reach computer under desk. I could have gone cheaper and bought an adapter to hang on back of the drive, but I think a full enclosure like this is a good investment.
