  • Great enclosure
this is the second vantec product I've gotten and it has one defining feature: quality. The aluminum housing feels premium and for the price it should. After assembly it worked instantly and it's rubber feet transfer none of the vibrations to and from the drive inside it. no drivers need to be installed and assembly is quick and easy if you take your time and don't rush. Only drawbacks for it is that I paid more for the enclosure than I did for the drive. The cost definitely could have been a lot less since it's just a glorified sata to usb 3.0 adapter but I admit the aluminum is elegant and well made. The other drawback is that it uses usb 3.0 type b instead of a usb c connection. I imagine a future version of the drive will come with type c but it's at least better than 2.0 speeds like i've seen with other enclosures on amazon. Overall it's a great get if you have a computer that doesn't have an internal drive bay. It's an elegant piece of hardware that looks great on my desk and it's worked pretty flawlessly. ... show more

  • Works as advertised. Plug & Play.
Well constructed. Fit my Blu-Ray burner with no issue and Windows 11 auto-detect this device with no hassle. Was able to read a Blu-Ray disc I created a few years ago. I have not had a chance to burn a new Blu-Ray or DVD disc, but I would not see why this would not work. I bought this when I replaced my old Cooler Master HAF 932 case with a LIAN LI Lancool 217 and I still wanted the ability to use my BLU-Ray drive when needed. ... show more

  • Best Value Single-Bay SATA Enclosure on Amazon
This is an nicely-engineered little enclosure with a decent build quality at its price point. It's perfect for my SATA Blu-ray drive, which drive does not slide around inside the enclosure after securing it with the included screws. They also included rubberized, adhesive feet to keep it from sliding around. It is truly plug-and-play: power it on, plug it in, and you're ready to go (at least on the latest major versions of Windows 11 and Ubuntu). I have already used it for 10-12 power on hours ripping multiple discs without any transfer or power issues. ... show more

  • Works as intended.
I mean, it's an enclosure. Not much to them. I do remember the days of there being a lot of options for these kinds of items. This one would still stand out as higher quality even when it seemed there were a dozen companies making them. Now what few are available are often twice the price. I'll judge its price versus the current market. At least this one allowed me to do a firmware update on the optical drive inside without any compatibility issues. Haven't always been that lucky in the past. Assembly was straight forward. ... show more

  • A few cons but good overall
It works good. I paired it with an lg blu ray drive that I flashed with libredrive firmware over SATA 1 year ago. This drive often caused Windows Explorer to crash on my Windows 10 PCs. The file explorer will forever be indexing and not be usable until I restart Windows Explorer in the task manager. Then it breaks the thumbnails until I restart my PC. This was not a problem when I used the the same drive over SATA. The enclosure is built well. It is aluminum with plastic bumpers. The package comes with a small screwdriver and many extra screws in case you lose some. The small drawback here is the standoff feet. They are 4 little rubber pieces that attach to the enclosure with adhesive. If you carry this thing in a backpack the legs will eventually fall off and get lost. A cheap shortcut solution for a $60 product in my opinion. The OWC Mercury Pro has feet that screw on for the same price. Overall, the cons are not deal breakers for me so I won't be returning it or anything but if I were to do it again I would buy the OWC Mercury Pro. ... show more

  • Worked perfectly with a SATA DVD drive.
I had a 5.25" DVD drive from a decommissioned desktop system that I wanted to use, and it fit into this enclosure like a glove. Easy to install and worked right out of the box. The enclosure is mostly metal with plastic end caps so it feels very durable too. Quite happy with this one.

  • Handy external optical drive enclosure
Worked exactly as advertised. Nice quality aluminum construction. I was building a new PC and was dismayed at how most cases these days don't have 5.25 inch drive bays anymore so I decided to go the external enclosure route instead of buying a new external BD-RE drive. Slipped in my good old Lite-On BD-RE drive, connected the SATA cable, secured the included screws to hold the drive in place and I was off and running. Couldn't be easier, drive works just like it did before. I didn't bother attaching the rubber feet. I may put a few strips of black electrical tape on the bottom for cushioning if the need arises. Speed seems to be the same via USB 3.0 as it did when it was installed internally. Yes, it is pricy but all in all very satisfied with this enclosure. ... show more
