  • Works great for the intended use case
If you're looking for maximum rigidity, you probably shouldn't be looking at a vise with both roll and swivel functionality. I picked up this guy because it looked to be a flexible solution in the shop and I'm not planning on beating on it like a blacksmith. Works a treat for general-purpose workholding and is super flexible in all kinds of situations. This is a multi-functional tool and handles a lot of different workholding configurations very well. It isn't the most rigid vise I've ever used, but it is by far the most flexible. I designed and printed some TPU softjaws for holding parts that I don't want to mark up. You'll see those in the attached image and if you search around for some Soft Jaws for Wilton Tools 650P Vise you'll find a free model to download and 3D print. Another reviewer noted that the included hardware is metric, which is fine for anyone dealing with machine tools made in the past half century. If you're an old timer that can't figure out how to count by ten, then maybe that's a problem, for the rest of us, who cares. One star removed because the shipping box was hilariously inadequate and arrived beat to heck. Given the nature of the contents it didn't seem to matter and everything arrived as expected with no damage but Wilson really should know better. ... show more

  • Carriage Bolts for Base Arrived Broken - Poor Quality and No Replacements Parts Available
I am unboxing now (6/14/2021) and to my disappointment, both carriage bolts that hold it to the base assembly are snapped off in shipping. That is very frustrating that they didn't use grade 8 hardware or at least something better than this. The vise ships in a box without foam or cardboard in place and was prone to movement. We're not off to a good start. Now I have to go find the proper hardware and we'll see what comes next. 6/15/2020 I took the broken carriage bolts and handle to find replacements. To my surprise, they are an M12 X 1.75 thread pattern. The hardware store did not carry metric carriage bolts this large; only standard sizes go this big. I tried the closest standard equivalent and it wouldn't thread in the handle well enough. I went to grab bolts for the base and they appear to be metric holes also. The 4 base holes are a couple of milimeters shy of 5/8's. I found 9/16's would work but 9/16 inch bolts and drill bits are rare as well but I found them. I then went to another hardware store for the carriage bolts and they didn't have them either. I got online and tried all of the big names and everywhere my search engine could take me and no one sells the carriage bolts of this size except a few china options in large quantities. Why Wilton would use metric threads is beyond me. At the end of the day, I returned this vise. The base is poorly made and I can't replace the hardware that arrived broken so I can't assemble it. Stay away from this one! ... show more

  • once upon a time, there was a swivel-head vise with solid, beefy castings for all of the parts
sadly, this isn't it.
