  • easy to use
I haven't used a machine like this before and this is the first time. But this machine is very newbie friendly. It is very easy to use and I highly recommend it.

  • Handy for fence posts
This works for putting in corner fence posts. If you are up north you will need to purchase an extension to get below the frost line. Other brands at this price point come with an extension so minus a star. If you use an extension it becomes a two person tool.

  • Great for landscaping
This auger is heavy. It weighs a third of what I do. And it's bulky, but that's' the nature of augers, and overall, this one is a lightweight and made for home use. The handle bars are the best, and I can actually use it by myself. It helps with those chores that arent' run-of-the-mill, but occasionally come up and you run down to the rental place to spend hundreds in rent for a few hours of use. This Badger auger costs less than one rental, and will drill out rock and clay to set those mailbox posts, dig the hole for that new crepe myrtle or fruit tree, or to set fence posts. If you're a homeowner or DIY'er, this is a good piece of equipment at a less-than-rental price. ... show more

  • Great for planting too!
Its a great little digger, it will auger though a lot of dirt. It actually works well for digging plant holes for 1 gallon plants from the nursery. Make sure you have a strong back, or else maybe get two people on it!! Forget it if you got large softball rocks in the soil. I have a tractor auger which can kick them out easily but its way more powerful this this so not a good comparison. ... show more

  • Good for Homeowner Use
The short story is that this assembled in about 5 minutes without tools (2 bolts per handle that tighten with a knob), started on the 4th pull, and works great. I browsed the instructions, but all of the important information (oil to gas ratio, choke position, how many times to press the primer bulb) is all labeled on the engine with stickers or molded into the plastic. That's fantastic because it means I don't have to reference the manual at the beginning of every season. There are some other nice touches-- like the captive nut inside the knobs (that hold on the handle) are lock nuts-- so they should work loose. This is about as loud as a small gas chainsaw-- that is, I'd recommend hearing protection. The weight isn't bad, but it is large, so it's still a bit awkward to move around. When you start it, it fires up and the auger doesn't move-- so you don't have to worry about it getting away from you or being immediately ready to start digging a hole. It's only once you squeeze the throttle lever that the auger begins to move. It turns at a moderate speed. That is, it digs the hole pretty quickly, but the auger isn't spinning so fast that you're worried about it getting away from you. I have relatively sandy soil and this didn't even bog down. In about 30 seconds I had a hole as deep as the auger with little effort on my end. It was fantastic. Overall, this is lightweight-- I would not use this if my business depended on it digging holes non-stop 9 months a year. However, for homeowner use and putting in a fence or deck footings, this is fantastic. For the price it costs to rent (a heavy duty) auger, you can have a well made, light duty auger that will last plenty of projects-- it's a great addition to any tool shed. ... show more

  • Efficient and powerful augur, ideal for landscaping with user-friendly features.
I recently took on the task of digging post holes and planting large shrubs around my property. The Wild Badger Power Earth Augur proved incredibly helpful. The powerful 53cc engine breezed through the ground, making the task of setting fence posts and planting shrubs efficient. I was pleasantly surprised with the longer working time; the sizeable fuel tank and the 50:1 gasoline to oil ratio meant fewer refills. Starting the machine was hassle-free, thanks to its digital ignition system. What truly impressed me was the tool's design—specifically, the precision between the PTO and drill bits which noticeably reduced vibrations. Even when working for extended periods, the ergonomic handle grip made the experience much more comfortable. The gear case design and dual-layer filter seems to indicate good prospects for the tool's durability. Overall, this augur combined strength, efficiency, and user-friendly features to make my landscaping tasks much smoother. ... show more

  • Runs, digs, what more could I ask for?
It does the job. This is my second auger powerhead. I was making a LOT of post holes and enlisted a second person to get them all done faster. The Wild Badger kept up in clay soil. I like that it has a recoil spring on the shaft; my other does not, and it would almost rip your arms out if you hit a root. Similar to the other WB tools I have, it didn't want to run right out of the box and needed a bit of tuning--it seems to be a bit hit and miss in that department. ... show more
