Description

Spiral bits provide a shear cutting edge that leaves a smoother cut than standard router bits. The down cut spiral design provides the best top surface edges, ejecting chips away from the router when routing through material. This design also decreases the tendency to lift thin/small work pieces during CNC routing.

  • Cuts Corian countertop very easily
I needed a way to expand the 30" gas cooktop cutout on my Corian countertop to accommodate a new 36" cooktop replacement. After investigating online the various options for cutting Corian, it looked like using a router with a spiral bit was the best option. Since the countertop was already installed, the cutting needed to be done from the top down. A Down Cut bit seemed to be the best since it would minimize any chipping of the top Corian surface. I went with the Whiteside bit since it was highly rated. I'm glad I did. I used a plunge router for the cutting since I thought it would be easier to control the cut. It was difficult to put a straight-edge template on the existing countertop because there was nothing to clamp it on to. I ended up free-lancing the cut and taking it slow to maintain the straight line. This bit is extremely sharp and the cutting went well. I took it in three passes to minimize the stress on the bit. The cutting created a lot of chips and dust from the Corian. Be sure to have a shop vac handy so you can see what you're cutting. After the cutting was completed, the bit is still sharp. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase. The only complication was at the back end of the cut by the back splash wall. There wasn't enough clearance for the router to reach all the way to the end. I had to finish the last 1-2 inches of the cut with multi-tool using a carbide blade. I'm sure glad I didn't have to make the whole cut that way. It would have taken forever. The blade generates a lot of heat and melts the plastic. ... show more

  • GREAT FOR CNC. Such an improvement!
I use this in my CNC for cutting wood. I was using a Niagara 1/4” endmill before. It was cutting okay but was starting to leave really stringy cuts in pine and birch plywood. Pretty sure it was getting dull, but still never cut as well as this one. It was also not cutting dimensionally accurate at all, and the cuts showed some lines (both of which I attributed to the CNC setup, not the bit). I’ve never been let down by Whiteside so I decided to order up a couple of these. MAN AM I GLAD I DID! The cut quality was SO MUCH better AND more accurate with this bit!! Just changing to this bit made my dimensions 100% accurate, and saved me SO. MUCH. SANDING. SO. SO. MUCH. Because I’m using this to make products to sell, this bit literally is saving me money on my finished products, by way of saving me many hours of sanding/finish work. I’ve had good luck and spoke highly of Whiteside before, but now I’m straight up a Whiteside evangelist! I’ve had great luck with Whiteside, Freud and Amana bits. Those cheaper bits can get the job done (like Ryobi), I’ve really found lately that the finished cuts coming off quality bits really is worth the extra couple bucks. ... show more

  • Excellent Bit
I used this with a shop-made fixture for cutting louver mortises on a historic shutter restoration. Perfect tool for the job. Whiteside makes good cutters.

  • Good bit, good value for the money
I am new to CNC carving, and purchased a few starter bits, this being one of them. I can tell the difference between the higher quality bits and the "get what you pay for" bits. This bit is very sharp and does a nice job. Very little tearing of the edges of the wood. The bit wasn't very much more expensive than the cheap ones, and has lived up to my expectations so far. Would recommend Whiteside bits right up there with Amana bits. I just ordered a 3 piece set of Whiteside ballnose bits for 3D(2.5D) carving, can't wait to try them as my "get what you pay for" bits are dull already. ... show more

  • Not what they used to be
I just broke 3 bit on the same job I always run. I switched to another brand that my buddy uses and it finished the job perfectly. Whiteside quality isn't what it used to be. I'll never buy them again.

  • Just buy it!
Nice clean cuts. Not over priced. I love Whiteside bits. I use 1/4” and 1/8” down cut bits.
