  • BEST purchase I have made all year!
Style: Modern
EXCELLENT value for a fine product! The cost of just the straws and tubes are more than what I paid for this whole kit! The sturdy nesting box has a nice overhang to protect from the elements and there is just enough space for the straws and a little landing pad for the bees. The straws and cardboard tubes fit perfectly and come assembled. Done wasting money on straws and cardboard tubes that are the wrong size. We've had more luck with placing our nesting boxes vertically to increase stability. Attached a simple ceiling hook to hang off of one nail placed on our covered porch post. Reinforced with zip ties to keep it snug. Decorated the house with Posca markers as I read that Blue Orchard Mason bees can see blue and green colors best. Added a few full straws from other nesting boxes to help get attention from the mason bees. ... show more

  • UPDATED ->House is nice. Customer support nonexistent
Style: Modern
UPDATE 2023: After I posted my review here, Whitehorse reached out to me. Apparently my emails went to their SPAM folder, and they were unaware of my issues and concerns. They’ve since sent me the PDF I was after and entered my pic into their contest. They’ve also made offers to ‘make it right’ due to their lack of attention and response initially. This bumps up my rating of their customer service, and since I’d said that was the only thing causing a star demerit, I’ve bumped it up now to 5. I hope they’ll be better checking their SPAM folder going forward. As for bees, well I still have lit ‘Welcome’ and ‘Vacancy’ signs out (figuratively speaking of course. Bees don’t read to the best of my knowledge). I’ll just keep waiting to see if the wandering masons ultimately find it. ———— Original Review ——- I bought this little house in 2022. Got it hung up attached to a tree trunk. Had to do a little bit of modification as the cleat for hanging it assumes a flat surface, and a tree trunk isn't. Still, got it mounted, and just for good measure, I added a support wire from the front to the tree so it is impossible to fall. All good. The instructions included with the house said two things: 1. They were running a giveaway, and you had to go to a web address and upload pictures of your bee house to enter 2. There was supposed to be a PDF included or address to same with details on what you needed to do to attract Mason bees. You've got the new apartment, how do you let the kids know it's available? Well, giveaway page didn't have anywhere to respond for BEE house, just their other item, the BAT house. I uploaded pics anyway with the best method available to let them know they were there. There was no PDF with how to attract the bees in the box nor address provided to go and get it. I wrote WhiteHorse about both issues....confirming pics uploaded for their giveaway even though I couldn't click links to say they were for the BEE house and asked about the instructions for attracting bees to the new tenement. Crickets Well, I guess crickets at least woud have been nice. What I got was dead silence. No response. I wrote a few more times. No answer. Ever. The pretty little bee house has been hanging up out in the partially shaded yard for over a year now. Nary a bee has found his way fit to move in. It's an empty developer's nightmare...$ spent, no tenants. The house has survived all seasons (even though I know in California it's said we don't really HAVE seasons, but at least some cold and rain and sun) without issue. It's still hanging out there mocking me for being empty. Construction-wise, it's rock solid. Great little house. Customer support-wise, I can't recommend the purchase :( That knocked the review down one star. All WhiteHorse had to do was answer me once. Let me know where to look for bee attracting information and I'd be a happy camper. Instead, I feel they simply appreciated me buying the item and moved on to sell more. Customer support is NOT a trivial matter, so I'm rather disappointed in them. If you know all about Mason bees, then this will probably be a great item for you, but if you're a novice like me, maybe you should spend more time looking things up on the internet to inform yourself because the vendor won't. ... show more

  • A quaint and well constructed Mason Bee house
Style: Modern
We searched several different Mason Bee houses before deciding on the Whitehorse Mason Bee House. Once received - we were impressed by the overall construction and design of this house. We opted to outdoor wood stain our house and attached a single pressure treated 2x4 to the house for easy mounting - but yet easy to remove. We recently planted six (6) apple trees and situated our new bee house in close proximity to this little apple orchard in hopes of attracting these little pollinating bees come spring. Our bee house faces due East to catch the morning sun here in central PA. We also liked the replaceable cardboard tubes and the depth of the house at 6" with a roof overhang for weather protection. Overall - we are very pleased with this Whitehorse Mason Bee house and plan on purchasing some additional houses as well. ... show more

  • Quality Masob Bee House
Style: Modern
I have bought several Mason Bee Houses over the years, but I'd rate this one as the highest quality of them all. The craftmanship is tight. The cedar wood is beautiful. It's got an easy cleat mount. They screwed the pieces together instead of nailing it together which makes it very solid. There's an overhang in front that keeps the bee tubes dry. And, the bee tubes themselves are the best kind: they are cardboard tubes with paper liners. That makes it really easy to remove and replace the liners each season. Also, it's a small business with excellent customer service that answers any questions you have promptly. ... show more

  • Well-engineered bee house!
Style: Modern
This is a very well-designed product. The three features I particularly appreciate are: 1. The roof overhang is very generous and will keep all but nearly horizontal driving rain off the tubes. 2. The replaceable tubes will make spring cleanup a breeze and is a critical part of having a bee house that won't infect the bees with diseases they could contract from the previous year's detritus. 3. The French cleat for mounting the house is a very sturdy mechanism and will greatly simplify unmounting and remounting the house for its spring cleanup. ... show more
