The Westek MLC4BC Plug-in Motion Activated Control is perfect in entryways, bathrooms, hallways, basements, attics or any area where you need light. This device is a great way to add safety and security to any space. Any lamp plugged into the device will turn on when motion is detected within 25-feet in a 100 degree detection zone, giving you the light you need to navigate the room. The light will automatically turn off at a selectable time of 1, 2, 5, 10, or 20 minutes after motion stops. Compatible with LED, incandescent, and CFL bulbs. 10A, 1200W resistive. Great Product with Many Applications

Update: This time around I'm assuming longevity has improved and giving this motion switch the benefit of the doubt. Having said that, let me say it is a fantastically easy to install, works immediately and all you have to do is set the rotating switch to the number of minutes you have to set before turning whatever you have plugged into it, off. Perfect for garage lighting that turns on when you enter and off x minutes after you leave. Very please with this one so far. Fantastic appliance. I needed an under-cabinet fluorescent to come on whenever I took a seat in my office chair, which placed my legs within the sensor's range. It works like a champ and can be set to keep the light on from 1-20 minutes in several steps. I have another of these that turns on an incandescent light bulb whenever the laundry room is approached, and still another in the Garage (incandescent 100W bulb) for the same purpose. All work well. I am very pleased! 6/30/2014 Rev. This product does not hold up over time. Even with it plugged into a UPS it started to turn on, not in response to motion, and then not turn off after the set time period. At times, it stays on all night. I have decided that, after several of these, to go back to a toggle switch for light control, at least until I find a motion-actuated ambient light-controlled power outlet that works more reliably than this one.

Just what I was looking for

Finally! A simple motion sensor! An outlet doesn't need WiFi. An outlet doesn't need to be controlled by a cell phone. An outlet doesn't need to be talked to (I refuse to talk to inanimate objects). I have an air filter in my home office. It is in such a place that is difficult to reach to turn on and off. After a lengthy search I finally found this sensor. Works perfectly even plugged in under my desk. Even works in the dark which surprised me. Very happy with this little device. One thing I noticed - when the air filter is running (I have it set to 5 minutes) it will continue to run while I am in the room which is exactly what I wanted. It doesn't turn off after the initial 5 minute trigger. It senses your movement while it is running and continues to run. It will run for 5 minutes after I leave the room which is how I have it set and how I wanted it to work. Perfect!

It's great, it works perfectly for turning on my LED work light with motion when I enter the room and shuts off shortly after I leave. The adjustable times are a great feature and I'm already coming up with more ideas for how I can use it. It's ridiculously overpriced for what it is though. Over $20 for a switch and a motion detector?

Fire hazard

This unit has malfunction and potential fire hazard. We have Ting (fire prevention device) which monitors electric signals throughout the house. We found this device was causing the Ting device spiking. Arcing, very serious continuity iusse (potential fire).

It works, but not as I expected.

I purchased this motion switch to turn on a lamp at the bottom of a flight of stairs. I positioned it at the bottom of the stairway looking up the stairs, so it would turn on the lamp when I approached the bottom step or when I began descending the steps from the top. I set the time adjustment so the light would remain on long enough for me to transit the stairway. From the description, it seemed like it would be a perfect application for this device. Not so. Despite numerous tries at re-positioning or shielding the device, I could not get it to turn on the lamp while I descended the stairs. It appears that it does not detect motion directly toward the eye, only motion across the field of the eye. Realizing this, I now have it aimed so it sees me enter the the top landing. It works, but unfortunately it also turns on the light whenever I pass by the top landing on my way to the next room. (If I aim or shield it so it doesn't see me until I am on the upper steps, it does not work.)

Great for garage door light

I plugged this motion-activated control into my garage ceiling and into the device's outlet a hanging light rope to act as a guide because I suck at backing my car into the garage. Every time the garage door opens, it triggers the motion sensor and the guide light comes on! If the device were plugged into a wall, the range of detection would be what seems to be within a horizontal plane, which makes sense as you'd normally plug it in somewhere that intersects people's pathways. With it plugged into my ceiling, detection is a vertical plane which works out to be from the garage door in front of my car to right behind where I park my car. The packaging states that the detection range is 25 feet. Due to the garage door motor obstructing my sensor's view, the range is artificially restricted to 15 feet, but if I walk anywhere within the sensor's view plane or open the garage door, it triggers the motion detection, which is perfect for my purposes. There's a loud click when power to the device's outlet is activated. The sensor's power-on timer can be set to 4 seconds, 1, 2, 5, 10, or 20 minutes. I set mine to 20 minutes and it stays on for the expected time. (In the video the light blinks because that's what the light does by design when first powered on.) By the way, to clear up some people's confusion, this device does not contain any built-in lighting. The clear panel is the motion sensor. The motion sensor activates the electrical outlet.
