  • Gives a great finish
Style: Dual Head w/ Improved Dust Collection
If you are doing drywall mudding- just get this tool! I did half our home (most walls coated in 70's swirl plaster, and others had delaminating paper/tape that needed repair) with a 6" orbital sander (woodworking), and it was a huge PITA- very easy to gouge the new joint compound. This tool was a game changer: No gouging- it kind of floats and has a nicely pivoting head that prevents it (it does gouge a little if you're really being careless, but you almost have to try to mess up). It's super-fast to sand flat large walls (seriously, huge walls completely skimmed with new joint compound). My only complaint is that the design of vacuum is not great (I used a large shopvac and regularly emptied/cleared the filter)- I do wish that was a bit better- it was still pretty dusty, but again- I was hogging through large area's so for smaller jobs it might not be as much of a problem. ... show more

  • Dust solution
Style: Single Head w/ Improved Dust Collection
Great sander with very good dust collection. Sanded half my main living area with a pole sander and decided I needed to get something with dust collection. This thing powers through high spots without slinging dust all over me and the workspace. Put a cyclone dust separator between the sander and the vacuum to prevent the filter from getting clogged. Was able to sand a vaulted ceiling and large living room in no time. The sander is a bit heavy but the ergonomics are pretty comfortable and make it easy to use. Definitely worth it at this price point. ... show more

  • solid 4 stars
Style: Single Head w/ Improved Dust Collection
Why did you pick this product vs others?: I don't give 5 stars unless the product is super magnificent. this was a solid 4. I read the reviews, good and bad. Bob Vila recommended this product, so I thought I would give it a try or let my handy man give it a try. I am 70 and won't use it. My son who has bad shoulders thought it was heavy and said he wouldn't use it but my handy man is 30 and strong. He loved it. used the 240 grit for a finish sand. I bought a 1 gallon SHop Vac brand. worked just fine. He said where you loose the dust is when the sander is stopped and you are moving to another section the dust falls out. I figured if it performed like the 1 stars then I would return it. But we have other drywall projects that my handyman will be doing. Also got for a good price on July prime days. ... show more

  • Well made homeowner/DIY drywall sander
Style: Dual Head w/ Improved Dust Collection
This sander lives up to the advertising, good power, good dust collection using a shop-vac and good features. I watched several YouTube videos on this sander before purchasing and most all were pretty much accurate in my experience. The sander seems to have plenty of power even when using 60 grit sanding disks as I never had it bog down. Dust collection with a shop-vac is very, very good, but as I saw in videos when everything is turned off and you rotate the unit sanding head down there will be some dust fall out. You do have to have a vacuum for dust collection, but it will run without it if you can stand the dust! The difference between sanding with a manual pole sander and this WEN unit when connected to a shop-vac are night and day! I have a basement to finish out and just doing a room previously, there was dust everywhere and I was trying to figure out how I was going to keep all that dust from getting upstairs. Using this WEN sander and a good shop-vac has alleviated my concern almost completely! A couple of things to know: the unit is slightly heavy and you will need to rest or switch arms occasionally and the On/Off switch is a little too easy to switch OFF accidently. The unit has one extension section if you have high walls or ceiling work and also a shoulder strap for the ceiling work to take some of the strain off your arms. I would bump the switch moving my hand around while moving the sanding head on the wall and turn the unit off and I think it just needs a slightly better location or more recessing to correct that. This WEN sander has delivered on its advertising promises and I'm happy with it and the results. I can recommend this product! ... show more

  • Definately worth the money!
Style: Single Head
I definitely recommend this. I am a serious DIYer who is building my own 2800sf house. I have used the Porter Cable and considered springing for one but couldnt justify the cost for this one miserable project. Glad I didn't. I haf reservations about the Wen but I am very glad I went with it. Especially with the price. Below are the pros and cons I have noted as compared to the PC. Pros Price Ergonomics - this has a removeable section of handle and it can also be telescoped. This made it much easier for me to use in tight spaces. It also has a "handle" near the head and can be used almost like a long hand sander. It also folds for storage and the connection seems well made and durable. Head pivot- this unit pivots much more easily than the PC. It will readily lay flat I the wall in any position I have used. I assume this is due to the lack of drive cable since the drive motor is mounted on the sander "head". The pivot arm is some form of "plastic" so that may be a weak spot if abused or for frequent professional use. I have had no issues with it or the unit at all. Hose and cord are ample length and the hose is VERY flexible. You will need a drop cord but it will operate on a 100ft 16g cord per the manual and my experience. Suction- is good but I have a large commercial shop vac with a drywall filter. If you want to use it with a vac you will ne2d a decent one with a good filter. Clean the filter OFTEN. The hose end that goes to the vac hose has what appears to be a twist connector but it did not fit my vac hose. Had to duct tape it. On/Off button and speed dial are well located but I have accidentally adjusted the speed while carrying or moving the unit. No big deal but a positive click dial or some other solution would help this issue. Works great for me and Im happy with it. Cons Heavy head- due to motor. Hasn't really caused issues on the wall but overhead is rough. I'm not a wimp but holding the unit overhead with your arms extened will wear you out if you aren't and Ninja Warrior. I couldnt use the extension handle as the weight that far out was too hard on my shoulders. The Porter Cable isnt light but.definately had an advantage over head. Hose to vac connection and spe3d controls are minor inconviences Maybe the plastic pivot arm durability but not nn issue so far. Head shutter- I have noticed more head shutter while sanding on rougher sanding discs. It hasnt been an issue up to the 120 grit I have used but may be at supplied 60 grit. But if you need 60 grit to sand your drywall mud you are really bad at it. I'm far from good and used 120 and 280. Buy one and make the kid do the ceilings. ... show more
