A variable-speed dial provides ultimate speed control from 8,000 to 12,000 OPM for a variety of projects. One-handed locking dust bag attaches securely to the sander to aid in dust collection or the user can attach the sander directly to the DWV010 or DWV012 dust collectors. Easy to use, some people complain about the power button and speed knob being in the way, I never had an issue. The vacuum filter is great, it picks up most of the dust. I heard some people complain the unit is too high off whatever you are sanding, not sure why they claim it's an issue, I don't have an issue with that at all. Battery life depends on what you are using, but I recommend having 3 batteries if you have large jobs so you can continuously charge them. It eats through pads fairly quickly. The DEWALT 20V MAX orbital sander is an excellent tool. It has plenty of power for removing material quickly, but it also runs smooth enough for fine finishing work. The variable speed control is great for dialing it in depending on the job. I love not having to deal with a cord — being cordless makes it easy to move around the shop or job site without fighting extension cords. Battery life is solid, especially with a 4Ah or 5Ah battery, and it swaps discs quickly with the hook-and-loop pad. Dust collection works well when hooked to a vac, and vibration is minimal compared to cheaper sanders. It feels durable and well balanced in the hand. If you’re already in the DeWalt 20V system, this is a no-brainer. Great performance, great build quality, and well worth the money. ... show more

I've been using this sander in my wood shop for the last three years and couldn't be happier with the unit. In my 35 years of woodworking, I've worn out just about every type of vibratory-type sanders, then orbitals. Black and Decker, Porter Cable, Rockwell, Makita are all brands I've used, but this DeWalt is my favorite. Pros: Great dust collection, especially when using screen-type sanding discs. Great ergonomics. Very comfortable to hold and use, with the controls right under your fingers and the overmold coating helping to reduce vibration. Good battery life. 30 minutes or so on a 2 ah battery, and 90 minutes on a 5 ah. Bottom line is that I can recharge a battery in less time that it takes to exhaust one, so all you need is two batteries and you're set. Cordless! No dragging a cord around your piece as you sand. Coupled with the dust pickup I mentioned before, I'm free of vacuum while sanding. Variable speed allows me to choose how aggressive to get. Turned down low for delicate veneers, up to the max for rougher sanding. Very versatile! Pad stops when you lift off the workpiece. This may sound trivial, but it's a major point. You can set the sander down and not have it run away and knock things over. Okay, cons: For the last few months, it feels like the bearings are wearing out. Vibration has been increasing and the sander has an increased tendency to "walk" around on the piece I'm sanding. This suspicion that the unit is not built as solidly as I'd like is the only demerit. I'm planning on tearing it down and possibly ordering some replacement parts (quite cheap on ToolPartsPro.com, btw). I should be able to put it back to rights for less than $30 in parts unless the problem is terminal, like a worn motor shaft. Fingers crossed. Bottom line is that I really, really like this sander. Since it seems that 50% of woodworking is sanding, I've spent a heck of a lot of time buzzing around with this little gem and I hope to spend some more. If I can't fix it, I'll buy another one just like it since I already have all the batteries and chargers. ... show more
