Hey this worked. I'm thrilled. So many handy gadget tools don't . This delivered. I'm not a welder. Hobby weld is even a stretch. But I have always needed to blob some molten metal somewhere. Today, I tacked the loose arm rest back into function on my outdoor metal spring rocker. Haven't welded in decades, didn't practice with it. Set it at halfway on the adjustment knob, struck fairly easily. One spot I did have to grind off paint. Even sucking at controlling the stick it laid enough metal to hold. Id bought a cheap stick welder before and could never get it to strike. i had to use a 25 ft 14 guage extension cord to use this welder where I needed it, it did fine. Course,I'm not running it long but strike blob strike blob. I'm rocking in my old chair now. Thanks whoever invented and promoted this. I been needing something like this my whole life.

My first impression using this is positive. Without reading any manual, I stuck a stick in the front of the gun put on my glasses and my gloves and welded a half inch bolt to a coupling nut. (See pic). I didn’t bother cleaning up the weld. The test was just to see if the weld was strong. I tested the weld with a pair of socket wrenches and sheared the bolt in half without any visible damage to the weld. This is exactly what I wanted-a way to quickly tack things together for repairs and making jigs etc. I previously had a wire fed mig welder and found it a hassle to set up for these kinds of quick tasks. I also didn’t like having to have a tank for the process. I changed to flux core but it was still a pain for the little I use a welder. This stick welder is going to be terrific for my needs. Plug it in, clamp a ground and zap!

Do not use this welder on mild exhaust pipe steel. No matter what setting for amperage you have it set on 1-6 it will burn a hold right through mild steel regardless how how good of a welder you are. It will weld stainless steel easily. I've gas this welder for over a month and tried multiple times to weld exhaust pipe mild steel it gets way to hot. Either it's a manufacturing defect or doesn't do as described.
