Both the tulip and the straight versions of these Weck jars are absolutely made for sourdough starters. The wide mouth and lack of ridges make it perfect for scraping down the sides of the jar. They are a breeze to clean. The lid can be made airtight by using the rubber gasket and fastening it all with metal clips. It can also be used with just the glass lid, which allows for pressure to escape when fermenting a sourdough starter. There is plenty of room for your starter to grow and be happy in this 1-liter jar. The only drawback is that these jars are a bit pricy on Amazon. I really love these Weck tulip jars for sourdough starter. The 1-liter size is perfect for an active starter and gives plenty of room for rise without overflow. The glass is thick, sturdy, and high quality, and I love that it’s clear so I can easily track bubbles and growth. They’re easy to clean and feel very durable, definitely a big upgrade from random jars. Con: The jars are on the heavier side, especially once filled, so they’re not ideal if you plan to move them around often or store them on a high shelf. Alright, fellow sourdough parents and anyone who appreciates beautiful glass containers, let me tell you about my recent upgrade: the Weck Tulip Jars (1 Liter, set of 4). For a while, my sourdough starter, lovingly named "Bubbles," lived in a less-than-glamorous repurposed jar. It was functional, sure, but it lacked... panache. Bubbles deserved better. I deserved a more aesthetically pleasing fermentation station. I saw these Weck jars online and was immediately smitten. The tulip shape is adorable, the glass looks thick and sturdy, and those little glass lids with the rubber seals and metal clips? So classic! They look like they belong in a European pantry straight out of a fairytale. My plastic containers felt a pang of jealousy. When these arrived, they felt just as good as they looked. Solid, heavy glass. The wide mouth is fantastic for feeding Bubbles (less mess!) and for cleaning (my whole hand actually fits inside!). Bubbles took to its new home immediately. It seems happier, more active, and frankly, more sophisticated. INFLUENCED. I saw someone making overnight oats with these on social media. They just seemed aesthetically pleasing so I gave them a try. It sounds so silly to say that but influencers do suck me with their beautifully organized kitchen and fridges. I will say I love these for storage! I use it both with the rubber and clips and without. Airtight seal with the rubber and clips. Glass is good quality and holds up well in dishwasher.
