I can alot and use jars in our every day life, so having a leak proof option for jars in use is very important. I have tried many other lids and they just don't keep liquids from leaking out. I use Ball mason jars for storage. In general I like the metal lids and one advantage of them is that you can vacuum the content if you want. But the ring of the glass I have my sea salt in turned black and so I ordered these plastic lids for special purposes like salt. Ball products have always been good. My husband used to deliver their items too and they even gave them-back then-gifts. I still have those 40 years later. Not to mention the items I inherited which some are from them 1950's. These are plastic so they will have a shorter life.
