  • Solid smoker
Style: Grill
Warms up quickly and holds temp well - app is easy to use. Heating up to 600 sear does take some time however. So excellent smoker maybe not so much searing device.

  • Excellent Addition to Outdoor Cooking
Style: Grill
This is by far my favorite outdoor grill. I started out young with a SwingerII charcoal grill, then got married to a guy with a propane Weber Silver Series, after some time we added an Oklahoma Joe Smoker, the Weber Silver got replaced by a Weber Genesis ii 6 burner, and now the latest and greatest SmokeFire has been added. All my neighbors have Traegers and kept telling me I needed to get one, but I'm partial to the Weber brand. I looked at all the videos and reviews of each and all the pros and cons. Ultimately what led me to the SmokeFire is the ability to fire it up to 600F. I was looking for a smaller surface area to grill on for just the two of us, when using the 6 burner is overkill, but I also wanted the flexibility to smoke low and slow. This grill is the perfect tool for me. I've had the grill for 56 days and have used it 21 times so far. I'm keeping a notebook for reference until I get the feel for it. Also because I'm slightly obsessive compulsive about these things, or wait, it's because I really like to drink beer and lose focus while hanging with friends and family while the food is on the grill. Bacon, cooked on the top shelf is awesome, takes about 18 minutes. Chicken, 'set it and forget it', we've gone to the neighbors house for happy hour and I can monitor it remotely from the app on the phone. Burgers, grill 'em on the lower shelf, move to the top shelf with cheese to finish. Stuffed Pork Loin wrapped in Bacon, two probes and a 'happy hour' later, perfection. Game Hens, on a rainy day took 2 hours and turned the heat up after a low smoke. TriTip, need to dial this one in better and find my own method for reverse searing but was still enjoyed by all. Ribs, Ribs, Ribs, Ribs, We love our ribs and they have been exquisite every time. The squirt bottle with a mix of cider vinegar and water keeps them moist and looking good. Never have I used this method before and I like it. NY steaks, this was an early use of the grill and my notes suggest they could have used more smoke, will dial that in next time. Oysters! Yes, we smoked/grilled raw oysters in their shells on the top shelf. Wow those were good! Prime Rib Roast, this was excellent perfection. Again, used two probes to keep track of the inside temperatures and rotated around as needed to hit the hotter spots of the grill. The smoke ring was just enough to give it some good smoky flavor without overpowering it. The overall functionality of this grill is five stars. I love having the controls at my fingertips via wifi and the app. It's been easy to clean and maintain. I find tips for temperature and time for pellet grills online and keep my own notes on what is working and what I would try differently. The learning curve wasn't huge and we've been enjoying it ever since. Cheers to more grillin' and more happy hours! Edit 8/19/2021: added photo of Hopper Pull Out to answer a question ... show more

Got the smoker just before the holidays at a great sale price. Very happy with it in many ways! Delivery and assembly were provided by Amazon, greatly appreciated. Electronic controls pair with both your home WiFi and Bluetooth. App is exceptional. Makes great proteins. Enjoy yours!

  • It works great 95% of the time (updated)
Style: Grill
I really liked it at first, and then after the 1st, 2nd and 3rd failure, I still tried to like it. But it has constantly proved to fail, time and time again in the middle of a cook. It starts fine, reaches temp, and then, even with the pellet hopper full, time and time again it just fails to stay lit. I've replaced the glow plugs 4 times, and have even tried buying a 3rd party glow plug, all with the same results. The only thing consistent about this pellet smoker is that it will stop working more often than not. Usually doing a shutdown cycle (15+ minutes) and then starting it up again fixes it, but now that is no longer working. I've tested running it to 400 degrees and letting it go without ever even opening the lid, and it still fails consistantly. I suggest looking elsewhere personally... UPDATE! Ok, so maybe I was a little harsh with the first review due to being frustrated. However the issue was the wood pellets I was using, not the smoker. I was buying the Costco wood pellets, which I later found out, are much larger than the Weber brand pellets. Long story short is if you get the Weber brand (or even the brand Sam's Club just recently started carrying) it works great. I've even found that if you carefully take time to break the Costco pellets into smaller pieces, it works just fine as well. Raised my rating to 4 stars, though I'd give it a 4.5 if I could. Have made quite a few tasty briskets/pork bellies since I figured it out! ... show more

  • Still has issues - almost burned my house down on the very first cook.
Style: Grill
So I was really excited to get the updated version of this grill. The first weekend I had it, (after doing all the seasoning steps) I set it to a low smoke, let it heat up, and then threw in a pork belly around 5am. A few hours later, the whole grill was on fire and shut down due to being over 700 degrees. Obviously the meat was ruined and I had to figure something else out. Weber support was fantastic and convinced me to give it another shot. Apparently the best thing to do is to add aluminum "hotel pans" underneath the grill below whatever you are cooking - in order to catch the drippings that would otherwise cause a huge fire. I was able to complete a couple cooks this way. Eventually, on another long cook, the temperature started dropping. I got no warning in the app, the grill didn't recover. I can only assume the pellets got stuck in the slide somehow, because after everything had shut down enough to start taking it apart, the fire box inside the grill was full to overflowing with pellets. Anyways, I regret the purchase. There is no "set it and forget it" with this grill - I am constantly having to monitor that pellets are falling and the temp is correct. The last time I tried to use it, it took forever to heat up - it was cold outside, but something was preventing the pellets from catching on fire. I am tired of messing with this one and planning to park it and buy myself a pellet grill that actually works. Edit - Weber swapped my grills for a new one, the new one eventually had the igniter go out, temp started dropping. Then when I opened it, it got a bunch of fresh oxygen and essentially blew up. So I am done with this grill for good and made Weber come pick it up. ... show more
