  • This thing could dry up the ocean
Style: 150 Pints with Pump 7000 Sq. Ft
I live in Florida. It's hot, it's humid. It's brutally humid. My AC was struggling to keep up with the temperature. Then, I ordered this Wakar dehumifier. What a difference! I left it running mostly on continuous mode and emptied about 6 gallons of water per day! Suddenly, my house felt tolerable, and my AC had no problem cooling the house! In fact, where I used to keep my AC at 66 degrees F to try and keep the humidity level comfortable in my house, with this thing running, I can not set my thermostat to 70 and the house feels dry and just as cool. It's been 5 months since I bought this thing, and I love it. The compressor can be a little loud, but that's a small price to pay for the powerful dehumidification. I highly recommend using an external 5 or 6 gallon bucket and the hose with pump option. Otherwise, you'll be dumping that little built in bucket 3 times a day! This thing sucks a lot of water out of the air. I did a problem a few months in, where the compressor went out on the device. I found the company information on Amazon, sent them an email and within a couple of days, they have processed a replacement shipped directly to me and a pre-paid lable to return the broken one! Wow. It's not common to get customer service like that. I'm impressed. Anyway, 5 stars for this Wakar product. I'll be looking at other appliances they make. ... show more

  • GREAT product with EXCELLENT customer service!
Style: 150 Pints with Pump 7000 Sq. Ft
The unit has wheels and is easy to move from room to room. I like that I can see the RH of the room from across the room because it is lit up on the front panel in big numbers. The setup was straight forward and the instruction manual was easy to understand. We only use the pump function. The drain hose that came with it was long enough for our particular needs and we have not encounter any leaking. It's worth noting that the pump has its own water tank that is inaccessible. We have used the unit on continuous mode to dry clothes and our futon covers. Everything dried rather quickly. The reminder to clean the filter came on a few days ago (it automatically comes on after so many hours of use). The filter is easy to remove and clean. I checked the filter and amazingly, it was still clean. So I reset the button. Apparently our air purifiers are doing their job keeping the dust down. One of the best things about this company is the amazing level of customer service. I reached out to the number provided for some issues I was having with my unit. I spoke to someone who listened to my concerns and said someone would reach out to me in the next 24 hours. In the meantime, she had me text some general information to her. I followed her instructions and within 24 hours received a text from Evelyn. She began troubleshooting my particular issues (a strong smell from dehumidifier and the unit going lower than where we had it set). Evelyn let me know that we should allow a margin of error of +/- 5 degree RH. It was the first time I had heard that and hadn't noticed it annotated anywhere. It's good to know this or you may think your unit it broken. We did more troubleshooting and finally figured out the best setting for our home. As for the smell, we are extremely sensitive to scents so our home is fragrance free. Smells that others might not even notice can make us ill. After following Evelyn's instructions, the smell dissipated enough for us to be able to keep the unit. Overall, we are pleased with the unit. Once our problems were resolved, we bought another unit. We are in the process of de-smelling the other unit so we can keep one upstairs and one downstairs. ... show more

  • 5 stars overall, but minus 1/2 star for occasional pump noise
Style: 150 Pints with Pump 7000 Sq. Ft
TLDR; 5 star for features and general operation. minus half star for pump noise level. ================ This review is in regard to the version of the product with a pump. When dehumidifiers remove water from the air, you need to empty out the water and there are generally three ways to do this. 1. Basin: The water is collected in a basin in the dehumidifier and you must remove and dump out the basin regularly. 2. Drain: If your dehumidifier is in a location with a floor drain it can empty directly into the drain. The drain operates through gravity -- it must be below your dehumidifier. 3. Pump: You can drain it 'uphill' into a sink that is above the level of the dehumidifier if your system has a pump that can send the water above the dehumidifier. This Amazon product listing has several different models. Only one of the models "150 pints with pump 7000 sq ft" has a pump. This review pertains to the pump model. ============================= I have previously used a GE Humidifier with a pump ( https://www.amazon.com/GE-Portable-Dehumidifier-Basement-Bathroom/dp/B0C6L8FDRC/?th=1 ) and my comments are relative to that system. In general I found the Waykar unit to be superior to the GE unit; and I would rate Waykar at 4.5 stars. DEHUMIDIFYING CAPACITY The Waykar is among the highest capacity I have seen. Waykar rates its removal rate as up to 70 pints per day compared to 50 pints for the GE. I can't measure the difference, but I suspect it is real. These systems are supposed to turn on and off, similar to the way your A/C system is governed by its thermostat. However, the GE would run continuously. This is a sign to me that the GE didn't have the power to 'catch up' to its set humidity. The Waykar unit on the other hand works just like your air conditioner and it turns on for a while then rests for a while. Why does this matter? The fan noise on the GE never stops. The fan on both units is quiet. Again think of white noise like your A/C system. However, it is still nice to have quiet periods with no fan running. RESERVOIR EMPTIES WITH PUMP When using the Waykar the pump empties the water before it goes into the reservoir/basin. In contrast, the GE fills the basin and pumps when the basin is full. This means that the GE always has a tub full of standing water, which seems to me like a mold risk. I appreciate Waykar's aproach which always leaves a dry basin if you use the pump. OSCILLATING FAN Waykar has a flap above the fan outlet. It has an option to pivot this flap automatically. This helps spread the treated air throughout the room. HUMIDITY LEVEL INDICATOR The Waykar has a humidity level display (eg, 41 for 41% humidity) on the front and top. Waykar's display is more responsive than the display on the GE. You can see the Waykar adjusting in real time. This give you an indication that the unit is actually working. NOISY PUMP The one area where the Waykar falls short is its pump noise. When the pump is working it makes an irritating brrrrrp sound. The GE pump was silent and didn't have this problem. This is not overwhelming since the pump does not run all of the time. First, remember that the system 'rests' frequently with no noise. Second, under normal operation, the fan is quiet and the white noise of the system is minimal. However, periodically when it collects enough water the pump will turn on for 5 seconds to 30 seconds. During this time you hear the irritating pump noise. The pump may not be an issue if you use the system in a basement, utility area, or run it with the pump off. We use it in the living area and find it more annoying. SUMMARY I rate the unit 5 stars for its overall capabilities and operation. However, I subtract 1/2 star for the annoying pump noise. If you purchase one of the models without a pump, I suspect you will be satisfied. CUSTOMER SERVICE - 5 stars When I first found the problem, I reported it to the manufacturer's customer service. They were prompt and polite, but I didn't find their response useful. As a result, I posted my experience here with a poor rating. In response to my rating, the customer service reached out and quickly addressed my issue and they exchanged my unit. I 'think' the pump noise is a little better on the replacement unit, but it is still an issue. However, I have decided to keep it because of the other features -- I will just make sure I turn it off when I have company visiting me. For their attentive resolution I rate service at 5 stars. p.s. Why did I give 5 stars on service when I needed to escalate? There were exceptional circumstances. Normally, after the initial response. I would just have requested an exchange. However, the product was out of stock at Amazon and they only offered returns. Since I purchased on-sale a return and re-purchase would have cost me $75 extra. When the issue was escalated Waykar acted quickly to resolve the problem. They shipped me a replacement directly from their own stock and processed a return at no cost to me. I feel the customer service worked correctly and the extra step/escalation was only needed because of the stock out. ... show more
