  • Order a new cam gear assembly also
I have a GE. I was getting an error code. I checked the wiring connections and that did not help. I checked the motor and the gear was plastic and ground to bits. I ordered this motor which has a metal gear, but my cam gear assembly was plastic. So, I ordered the metal cam gear and now everything works perfectly. Very easy to install both. But, be sure the motor gear and cam gear assembly are the same material (metal is best obviously) or one will grind up the other. I got a position switch just in case, but ultimately did not need it. The seller (Soft Water Supply) got me the parts quickly and were exactly what I ordered - excellent seller. (UPDATE) I forgot to mention, when you take off the cam gear assembly, there is a blue plastic ring (I think it is called a rotor.) DO NOT THROW IT AWAY. Once you get the cam gear assembly on, then place the blue ring back on the way it came off. Don't know why a new one does not come with the cam gear assembly as it appears to be a 10 cent part, but you need it to get the water softener to work. ... show more

  • Easy install perfect fit
I process part of the dealer. It was about three times the cost of Amazon. I would highly recommend trying to fix things like your water softener refrigerator yourself. There’s enough videos on YouTube to show you how good luck. I hope this helps.

  • Great way to extend life of softner
Our five year old GE water softener was showing ERR codes (and not running, or running for 8 minutes and then throwing a ERR code) ... and after cleaning and checking the water flow areas (venturi and intake valve) we noticed that the motor was working with the motor wires at some positions , and not when the wires were moved around. Ordered and installed the new motor easily - and we still got the ERR code (a different code came up.) Ordered a new Rotor Position Switch and installed that ( a bit more work, but very do-able) and presto! No more ERR codes and everything works great (with no more grinding gear sound either). Two reasonably priced parts. (No $100 service call just to show up to your house.) For the GE softeners at least, ERR 1 is check wiring(electrical connection points - (unplug unit - put in bypass) clean them with a Contact Cleaner if needed)- ERR 3 or ERR 4 is check the valve motor wire harness or that area. If the motor runs but the rotor valve doesn't move it could be a defective motor or a locked-up rotor valve. (Also check position switch if it doesn't detect the rotor valve position... like we had to replace that.) ERR 5 is check timer or the wire harness for timer. I found this info online. (The GE helpline is not very helpful...except to tell you what the manual tells you to do, and then they just want to send out a tech.) This part was a key to fixing and prolonging the life of our softener. ... show more

  • Works as described. Just like the original.
Exactly like the original and bolted right on. Unfortunately looks like this will break eventually also because it looks just like the original. Too much plastic.

  • Good quality motor
I purchased this to replace because my previous one about 2 years old stripped a gear on the softener. It worked the first time no issues at all and is plenty strong enough. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a similiar problem. My only recommendation is to replace the motor and gear at the same time. They will wear in to each other and last longer. ... show more

  • Easy fix
Direct replacement for my Kenmore softener. Replacing this motor was way easier/economical than replacing the whole softener.
