  • Very under powered
Color: 2500mW
This is only good for the weakest materials. Maybe soft wood and plastic. I really just wanted to etch my name and employee number on some tools but this can't even make a decent mark on the paint. Update: Company provided a no issue full refund. Now I can purchase their 5w laser. Thank you too them. ... show more

  • A Beginner-Friendly Laser Engraver with a Manageable Learning Curve
After a few weeks of hands-on use, this machine has proven to be a solid introduction to laser cutting and engraving. While I already had experience with graphic design and cutting machines, this was my first laser, and there is definitely a learning curve, especially when dialing in settings and understanding materials. Mac users should note a couple of things up front. The free LaserGRBL software is Windows-only, so Mac users will likely need to use LightBurn after the 30-day trial. I also found that getting the device’s port recognized required a bit of troubleshooting initially, though once configured it worked reliably. Whether using Mac or Windows, a few accessories are worth planning for. A honeycomb bed is important if you intend to do any cutting, both to protect your work surface and improve airflow. An air-assist kit is also highly recommended to keep debris clear and improve cut quality. While an official kit was not available at the time I asked support, I was able to adapt a compatible unit with minor modifications. In terms of performance, engraving results have been consistently good across materials including basswood, chipboard, oak, pine, bamboo, ceramic tile, and colored acrylic. Cutting performance is strongest at about 6 mm thickness or less; attempts to cut 10 mm softwood required many passes and still did not produce a clean cut, so thinner materials are the practical range for this power level. Overall, this is a capable and approachable entry-level laser engraver. For beginners willing to spend a little time learning setup, software, and material settings, it offers reliable results and a great starting point for laser projects. ... show more

  • Fun DIY tool
Color: 2500mW
Wand MINI Packaging was very compact with foam fit support for shipping. Nice little setup for smaller projects, approx. 155x135 bed, although i would recommend using the larger beds for 140x120 or bigger just to allow accurate mobility and no potential damage to the engraver. A few notes to keep in mind, be careful about the wiring harness for the laser. It seems to get hung up if extended to the opposite side. I'll 3D print a mini hook to keep it from bunching up, just keep in mind. Also, the instructions say there's a USB drive, but it shows it as the data cable for some reason. Haven't determined if there's any files on it or not but nothing has appeared so far so I imagine it's just the cable. I used LaserGRBL to import a SVG file that I exported from a CAD file. Initially I had no idea how to do a solid fill from the SVG, so the filled in logo that is shown is from an image file imported into LaserGRBL. However, when importing the SVG file you can determine how you want to fill in, if you want to or not, and the path. Very nice program for being free. Just follow the steps in the instruction manual for LaserGRBL provided. Keep in mind when centering and setting your work area that the center function puts (0,0) at the bottom left corner. And if you want precise engraving, square your material to the machine. and make sure you run a perimeter run so you know if it'll miss your material or not. The focus dial on the laser has a section showing what it's for, just note that it is not an electrical or a switch, it's mechanical. Rotate, drop to material, lock laser in place, then turn the dial back. Focusing is now done. Pretty functional way to set the focus Overall, definitely would recommend for anyone needing this for small business or personal projects. Although I think I would prefer the bigger work area. Just preference though. ... show more

  • Decent Tool
Color: 2500mW
This is a great intro level tool. I had never used anything like this before, no CNC or 3D printing, and the only graphical software I had ever used was Photoshop Elements, no CAD or Inkscaspe. So I was starting at the absolute beginning. I used LaserGRBL for my learning, and there is a learning curve. One thing I have to point out was a problem that took a while to figure out, to let you know how to fix it. Every time I sent my project from the computer to the Laser Engraver I would get an alarm and it wouldn't do anything. The problem was I didn't send the laser to "Home" so it wasn't starting from a good point. OK, don't make the same mistake I did, Go Home! This is an exceptional value for the money, $90 at the time of writing. Since I have never used a bigger one yet, I am not sure what I am missing, what a larger one will do. But using this for a while will let me decide if I want to keep going with a bigger unit of if I am happy with this one forever. I can learn with this and then make informed decisions. For me the size of this is good, a nice small footprint that sits good on my bench top. For the first project, I wanted something real simple. My wife does drawings so she made a line drawing of a bird. I figured something like this would not take hours to engrave into a piece of plywood. And I was right, once I figured out how to send it to the Laser Engraver, it took about 90 seconds. I still have lots of learning like exactly where the engraver is starting to engrave, how to tell it exactly what I want it to do. But it's fun for me to do, and if it's something you are interested in learning, this is a perfect entry level tool to get you started. ... show more

Good size, good value for money, solid quality, works well, easy to use, feels like it's going to last a long time. There's a definite learning curve, but we've been having fun with it.
